@mrshoho - same here - he's self employed and if he doesn't work he won't get paid. He's thinking of working on his files at home in the day then going into the office a couple of evenings a week to add sort things out. Hoping it will be at least a bit less risky!

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 20:51

Steven Swinford - Breaking: The Government is telling everyone to 'avoid gatherings with friends and family' and 'keep in touch by phone, the internet and social media.
Here's the full public health guidance on social distancing and coronavirus.'

Fannia · 16/03/2020 20:53

pointless it says any age

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 20:56

Alex Wickham - 'NEW: The UK only realised "in the last few days" that attempts to "mitigate" the coronavirus pandemic would not work, and that it needed to shift to a strategy to "suppress", according to a report by a team of experts who have been advising the government.'

PointlessUsername · 16/03/2020 20:57

@Fannia thank you, i missed that bit.

Ds falls under the Asthma cat and he has had 4 lots of steriods in the last year.

nellodee · 16/03/2020 20:57

I've been working on the basis that it takes about a week for cases to x by 10. We have been out from Italy by about a factor of 100, so 2 weeks.

But look at what is happening in the last few days. We are catching them up with regards to deaths.

At this rate, I put us at log 39.236 = 1.6 weeks behind Italy.

Shit.

Or, more positively, perhaps it means they did something which is working that we can copy?

JemimaPuddleCat · 16/03/2020 21:00

Here is Nicola Sturgeon giving her version of Boris' speech in a much less bumbling and easier to understand way.

NewYearNewTwatName · 16/03/2020 21:00

yes I just watched sky news(I've recorded it on my phone, I don't know why I did) were he read out the report about "we got our maths wrong" "suppression is the only way forward"

I'm so fucking angry, I've been out the loop for few days with work and struggled to catch up on the news.

there was a small part of me that hoped they were right even, when I knew they weren't. there was small part that even though I argued on here about that just maybe maybe they knew what they were doing.

I so fucking angry some people need fucking hanging. They have set us back and will have cost thousands of lives because they thought they were better than 100s of other experts around the world.

They let it happen. it started when Italy's northern towns went into lockdown. I was aghast that they didn't tell everyone returning from northern Italy to self isolate for 2 weeks. That was them. That was them saying I know let's let all the school kids back into school and 100s of adults back to work around our country in care homes, hospitals etc, let's let it spread.

FFS if they had just done that one fucking thing! we'd have had more time. we'd know where the vast majority of cases were.

not now though, no, we are fucked.

and part of me does think it was intentional to cull a million or so.

I'm angry and upset.

the guy on sky named the place were "the science had come from" but I only caught the the name imperial. does anyone know?

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 21:00

I think we will get lockdown once we get to four figure deaths. Three figures will be reached on Wednesday or Thursday and then four figures by Next Wednesday to Fridy.

WwfLeopard · 16/03/2020 21:00

Contradictory advice, it’s says “adults who get the flu jab” then any age group who is in the Vulnerable group?

mrshoho · 16/03/2020 21:01

Mazarinegreen if he can do that he definitely should. The less people he's in contact with the better. What I dread is when my dh has to go to hospital appointments so I'm asking him to call to see if they can make other arrangements. At the moment he has to get blood tests ever 2 weeks and consultant appointment monthly 😫 Our hospital has confirmed coronavirus patients as I'm sure have many others.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 21:01

Alex Wickham - 'An "intensive intervention package" will have "maintained until a vaccine becomes available (potentially 18 months or more)", the report said, painting an extraordinary picture of what life could be like in the UK for the next year and a half.'

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 21:01

Alex Wickham - 'A suppression strategy requires "a combination of social distancing of the entire population, home isolation of cases and household quarantine of their family members", and "may need to be supplemented by school and university closures" .'

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 21:02

James Graham - 'Closing theatres may save lives.
Good. So @BorisJohnson just Say The Words, close them, & save thousands of livelihoods too.
You’ve told people to stay away from our industry
But not shut it down
No shutdown no insurance
No insurance no survival
Give us a fighting chance.'

StrawberryJam200 · 16/03/2020 21:07

The government document is not completely clear, as I read it! They’re going to have to issue more clarification tomorrow.

"Australia and Italy are prioritising ‘healthy’ people with coronavirus over people with underlying health issues in ICU."

@Joyfulljenny It is like something from a dystopian horror film, and sadly it's likely that doctors here will have similarly awful decisions to make in the UK, in about 3 weeks' time. Even if we are lucky and the measures taken slow down the spread of the virus, I don't think that the 5000 ventilators we have will be anywhere near the number that might be required by that point. The way the stats are unfolding, we might have 30,000 to 40,000 cases in 3 weeks' time, and apparently around 10% of cases require ventilation - which means those patients will require 3000 to 4000 ventilators - that would leave just 1000 for all the other critical care patients. I really hope that it's possible to manufacture some more ventilators quickly, to alleviate this problem.

I watched a video about the Abels, where they talked about their experience of surviving Covid19. The husband said his oxygen levels became so low at one point that the medics said they might need to intubate him the next day if they didn't improve. He was worried about that, so began doing some deep breathing exercises to try to increase lung capacity. Next day they checked his oxygen levels and they'd improved dramatically. ☺ Perhaps this type of self help measure could work for others? It may become vital for the medics to give advice on this point, if they run out of ventilators.

Lumene · 16/03/2020 21:14

the guy on sky named the place were "the science had come from" but I only caught the the name imperial. does anyone know?

Yes a report from Imperial College - one of the world’s top universities, based in London.

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 21:16

Joyful in Australia? Italy I get but Aus case numbers aren’t that high are they?

NewYearNewTwatName · 16/03/2020 21:17

Lumene Thanks I thought it was was but didn't want to quote it as wasn't sure.

CUNTS

NewYearNewTwatName · 16/03/2020 21:19

the fact is they knew it was dodgy advice, which is why they weren't sharing their 'shpecial' science with others. Angry

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 16/03/2020 21:20

If only we had Macron or Merkel in the uk. Instead we have BJ who cant even be fucking arsed to work w/e and doesnt have the balls to call for a shutdown, which would ensure businesses had to protect their workers and could call in their insurance.
