What is the 45 days thing please?

TokyoSushi · 16/03/2020 10:43

Thank you!

anonacfr · 16/03/2020 10:44

45 days will be announced Tuesday but Macron will announce tonight that people have 48 hours notice.
I presume the curfew will start Wednesday PM

Kuponut · 16/03/2020 10:45

School staggering start and end times. Still waiting on uni latest statement

Givemeabreakpls · 16/03/2020 10:45

Thanks anon

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 10:46

I think Boris and Co want the NHS to fail so private insurance industry surges.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 10:47

45 days is very long to start with - italy and spain only done a month at first.

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 10:47

Thanks
Did a shop. Lots out but loads of restrictions on items which is great

Still paracetamol as you can only buy two

People very friendly except one woman getting irate and raising voice

Number12 · 16/03/2020 10:47

It seems so weird that for most people life is just carrying on as normal. Can't they see what's coming?!

^^^^^this^^^^^^

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 10:48

Yes that’s how I feel

cjt110 · 16/03/2020 10:48

The roads en route to work, which are usually jam packed at 8.50 were so quiet.

Very strange.

Aslak Berg - 'Swedish state epidemiologist: "I've listened to the Brits and they're doing exactly the same thing we're doing. The two countries distinguish themselves in taking a more scientific line" No idea if this is coolheaded thinking or hubristic arrogance.'

bananacakeZ · 16/03/2020 10:48

R4 woman's hour just on, a lot of people concerned about social isolation and the risks of this. But all the other countries are doing it, my friends in Italy taking it on the chin. Its there something special about the British are we less able to handle a few weeks indoors? In Italy people are still allowed to go and care for elderly relatives, so there are ways to do it so people aren't in crisis.

Sunshinesky1981 · 16/03/2020 10:50

It is strange . Was driving to work after the apocalypse scenes in tesco and the radio are running a competition to win tickets to a summer music festival, which will be the highlight of summer apparently. Just seems surreal

cjt110 · 16/03/2020 10:50

I must admit, i am finding the notice of lockdown very weird. OK, so it gives people time to be where they need to be... but its a risk of taking it with them?

It should be immediate IMO

cj I found more traffic during my 8.30 commute than usual, bit odd. Wondered whether people trying to frantically plan are needing to get in earlier.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 10:50

Maybe in the UK more people without relatives or relations with the neighbours. In a lockdown even those whose relatives are a while away will be alone.

cjt110 · 16/03/2020 10:51

I go past a high school, and another school from my son's... no traffic at all Shock

I think they don't want people being cooped up in hotels or away from their registered address.

ajandjjmum · 16/03/2020 10:52

bananacake
DD said the same. She drives to work in Battersea, and has said that the roads are loads busier at the moment. I suppose people are avoiding public transport - sensibly!

MurrayTheMonk · 16/03/2020 10:53

No eggs in any big shops now Hmm
Called in to the posh village stores on my way back however and got some spaghetti which they still had- and noted they still had some quails eggs (they were out of normal hen). Food shortages indeed hit the poorest first Sad

DrBlackbird · 16/03/2020 10:53

Angryrant Boris and Co (including Cummings) def want much more of a private insurance sx here like the US.

However, I am hoping that we'll see what's happening / will happen in the US in a pandemic under a private health insurance sx and say 'no thanks'.

Though my belief in the intelligence of the general public has been somewhat tested in the past few years.

I’ve been in tears this morning

The thought of elderly people desperately trying to get basics and being barged out the way by Karen and Nigel with their trolley full

I’m worried sick about my parents, the impact of companies on their knees and people losing their jobs

And ridiculously, and I know it’s a first world problem, but having to tell my little girl that we probably won’t get to go to Disney when she’s so excited.

I know it pales in to insignificance, but I can still be sad about it
