I'm not very confident with their model, since in 4 days they have already realised/admitted it was out by 25% (3 weeks instead of 4). I'm not convinced 3 weeks is completely accurate either.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 16/03/2020 19:11

I’m confused too. My dd has an autoimmune disease that means she gets the flu jab, but it isn’t life threatening and she is fit and healthy. Not sure if I should keep her off school or not.

I’m happy for her to go in to be honest, but should I send her?

Oakmaiden · 16/03/2020 19:11

And of course there is the irony here: if the Government cut civil liberties and manage this just right to get the bare minimum of deaths all the "just flu, can't see why we are being inconvenienced" brigade will be whining like anything that "You said this would be awful and hardly anyone died."

Beth Rigby

  • Asks companies to ensure staff can work at home
  • Family events & social events banned from midday tmrw for 15 days
  • People to stay at home. Only allowed to go out to get food, healthcare and work if you can’t work from home
  • Second round of municipal elections off

No 45 day lockdown.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 19:13

Also Macron wants people to walk to work - i presume through plenty of utterly esential workers dont drive but are too far to walk.

Lewis Goodall - 'Macron forbids family and social meetings. Meetings in the street, park etc "will no longer be possible"'

Bet some elderly starve if they dont have the phone number of their neighbours to ask for help.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 19:16

Lewis Goodall - NEW: Macron says that travel within the Schengen zone will be closed from midday tomorrow. Looks like the von der Leyen proposals will be implemented.'

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 19:17

@Oakmaiden I agree- I've got no faith in their science/modelling, really.

I don't think they do either, really, and that's why they are being so vague about everything.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 19:17

We know some neighbours by name but don't have their phone number - if we go into isolation we going to struggle. I tell my parents to get numbers but they refuse.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 19:17

The government's online advice has been updated here: www.gov.uk/government/collections/coronavirus-covid-19-list-of-guidance

MadameF · 16/03/2020 19:17

At least 15 days confinement for everyone in France, allowed out to go food shopping or to work or to practice sport...alone.

At least I can keep running outside.

mrshoho · 16/03/2020 19:18

Fuck me, a team advising cobra have realised their modelling would lead to 250000 deaths. Us lowly mumsnetters had worked that out after 5 minutes! it is bloody Dad's army I tell you Grin

Derbygerbil · 16/03/2020 19:18

Management are already brutal

As your a nurse, they need you at least as much as you need them at the moment. They can’t afford to be too brutal at this time.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 19:19

Actually, sorry, that's a lie- it hasn't been properly updated yet.

matildawormwoood · 16/03/2020 19:19

Multiple theatres have cancelled performances for tonight and announced closures until further notice.

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 19:23

I reckon everyone is in the same boat re modelling

It’s all new to everyone even WHO

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 19:24

Trump now live on @skynews

  • Avoid social gatherings of more than 10 people
  • Avoid discretionary travel
  • Avoid eating and drinking at food courts and restaurants
>>>> very similar to Johnson “With several weeks of focused action we can turn the corner and turn it quickly”
SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 19:25

Very different approach in France:

Macron has told the nation he wants no company to be exposed to the risk of collapse as a result of the pandemic. He has also said gas, electricity and water bills are to be suspended – as are rents – and the state will guarantee companies’ loans with a €300bn package.

Twasbambam · 16/03/2020 19:26

Only over-70s with underlying health conditions will be advised to self-isolate for 12 weeks from this weekend

Hang on, what? That wasn't what they said was it?

So all the people at serious risk under 70 DON'T isolate themselves?

JellyFishSquish · 16/03/2020 19:26

Who else thinks that the update for the number of deaths was held back until after BJ's speech?

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 19:26

Wish they’d do more like Macron

That is good

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 19:26

@mrshoho Yeah, it is scary to think they haven't run the numbers properly, when people on these threads can do it relatively easily.
