3 of us get the flu vaccine due to asthma. We are on the hit list at the practice. Ds is in reception and taking him out of school isn't an issue as I'm the only one with PR and can make that decision. I'm pretty sure they are saying if you get an annual flu jab due to long term health conditions then you are in the vulnerable group.

What was that about 12 weeks??

maudspellbody · 16/03/2020 17:16

Sorry. My mistake. It's not 'just' advice. It's 'strong' advice.

Fuck me.

waspfig · 16/03/2020 17:16

Lots of people stressing about schools because they are teachers or staff or children with health conditions!

PleaseStopCrying · 16/03/2020 17:16

Despite WHO testing warning hes not adocating thorough testing but does say he will scale it up butnot sure if its just me but it sounded like just in terms of the situations we are already testing in.

BarbedBloom · 16/03/2020 17:17

I assume they will release more info on who will have to stay home for 12 weeks as there isn't enough info yet. I am immune suppressed and asthmatic but don't get flu jab as I am allergic. My husband still works though

DGRossetti · 16/03/2020 17:17

Why are people stressing about schools? Just don't send your kids if you don't want to - tell them they have a cough or a temperature and you can keep them off for 14 days, no one is going to care at this point.

Ivory tower much ?

ClientQueen · 16/03/2020 17:17

Right so I get a flu vaccine, am immunocompromised and neutropenic. Happy to socially isolate introvert but I presume I still go to work?!

baublegirl454 · 16/03/2020 17:17

I get the flu vaccine - I have coeliac disease. Does that mean me too?

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:17

Cathy Newman - 'Govt ARE still testing for #coronavirus in the community CMO Chris Whitty says, and adds that plans are to scale up testing.'

amz12 · 16/03/2020 17:17

Italy reports 3,233 new cases of coronavirus and 349 new deaths, raising total to 27,980 cases and 2,158 dead

Twasbambam · 16/03/2020 17:17

@LambriniSocialist becasue they are saying vulnerable adults should isolate for 1w weeks and maybe more.

If you are a vulnerable adult with dc in school there is no point in isolation as the germy darlings will just bring it right into your home.

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/03/2020 17:17

The wording was that these were measures for vulnerable people the majority of whom would be adults - so the implication was clear to me that vulnerable children were included in there.

It is all so dreadfully foggy and vague.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 17:18

I find the advice about pubs, clubs and theaters etc quite odd. Is there some benefit to the government in not ordering them to close?

waspfig · 16/03/2020 17:18

Keep schools open for all sorts of reasons.

Givemeabreakpls · 16/03/2020 17:18

Schools - will be kept under review. At present staying open.

chillychicken · 16/03/2020 17:19

Can someone explain what was said about those that get the flu vaccine please? I have it as I was born with with a heart condition (as far as I’m aware, the condition is clear now). Have I got to isolate for longer?

SistemaAddict · 16/03/2020 17:19

And pregnant women. Good lord.

KenAdams · 16/03/2020 17:20

Omg Chris acting like he didn't say no morencommunity testing on Friday!

No word if those with hypertension or asthma are considered as part of the 12 week isolation group.

picklemewalnuts · 16/03/2020 17:21

@ClientQueen no! Don't go to work, self isolate for your own protection. Can you work from home?

BarbedBloom · 16/03/2020 17:21

@chillychicken they are talking about people being asked to isolate for 12 weeks and mentioned people who fall into certain categories including those who would normally be advised to have flu jab. But they will release more detailed info. No word about jobs/money unless I missed it

KenAdams · 16/03/2020 17:21

@chillychicken they are advised to self isolate for 12 weeks.

CharlieTangoBanana · 16/03/2020 17:21

@Sansark if they order businesses to close, the business can make a claim on their business interruption insurance, this way they are hoping that the business will shut up shop tell all the staff to take unpaid leave and go home and starve.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 17:21

I agree- they need to be really explicit about who should self isolate. Hopefully there will be more detail online later.

They are being really vague and waffle-y as always.

Momof2boys1girl · 16/03/2020 17:22

This is very vague. I need a list of what they class as chronic conditions so I can’t make an informed choice
