They have no way of knowing how many UK cases since they stopped testing.

Death rate, well it's going to be exponential. We aren't going to be magically different to other countries who have followed the same damn curve.

Albatross123 · 16/03/2020 15:34

EU are now closing borders to stop anyone coming in. I just watched a live announcement from Brussels but can't find a link.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 15:35

Tony Connelly - 'BREAKING: European Commission president announces "temporary restriction" on non-essential travel to EU for 30 days "in order not to place more strain on our health systems". Exemptions for EU citizens coming home, commuters, health professionals, researchers.'

Jenny Hill - 'Germany to close shops with exception of food / drink shops, pharmacies / medical suppliers, laundries, post offices, hairdressers, construction supplies, paper shops, gas stations, garden centres and pet supply shops. Sunday closing to be suspended.'

Norman Smith - 'EU will not impose restrictions on UK citizens entering EU despite imposing 30 day travel ban.'

Jenny Hill - 'Restaurants in Germany will have to close at 6pm reports German News Agency. Hotels to be closed to tourists & gatherings in religious buildings – churches, mosques, synagogues to be banned. It’s not yet clear when the measures will come into force.'

Lewis Goodall - 'NEW: Finland’s new #COVID19 measures in full:- Public gatherings limited to 10 people. Schools and universities closed. borders closed. State & municipal cultural institutions closed.
Prohibition on visiting elderly people.'

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 15:37

@CrapTVAddict Yes - apparently once a day. Not sure how those who are ill with coronovirus or otherwise too ill or too disabled to go out will get supplies'.

Exochord · 16/03/2020 15:37

My GP surgery has closed its doors. Too many people wandering in with coughs etc. Repeat prescriptions will be via telephone only, appointments are strictly limited and they’ve set up a portacabin where you have to be checked over and have your temperature taken before you’re allowed to see a doctor. The pharmacy delivery service is buckling under the strain.

bananacakeZ · 16/03/2020 15:42

The EU are still being generous to the UK, their idiot neighbour then

@silenceattheback That's one graphic poster 😂

KenAdams · 16/03/2020 15:50

@ofwarren can you confirm that ALL cruises have now been cancelled as per your earlier post? I can't see that reported anywhere?

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/03/2020 15:51

wheresboris Anyone know what time he'll bother to speak to us??

The mentioned on the news but now I've forgotten! Possibly 5:15? I remember thinking I'll listen this that then do xyz. Or 4:45?

daffodilsandblossom · 16/03/2020 15:51

Does anyone know when we are likely to hear anything from Boris Johnson today? Thanks in advance.

confusedandtired99 · 16/03/2020 15:52

Why haven’t they said what time this update will be and on what channel? I’ve looked everywhere!

ofwarren · 16/03/2020 15:53

@kenadams I cant unfortunately. I'm just sharing the news source. There should be a link attached.

LarkDescending · 16/03/2020 15:54

There is a BBC News Special at 4.30pm.

silenceattheback · 16/03/2020 15:54

Some unlikely symptoms:

Sorry for some of the pics Blush

I know of someone who was advised to self isolate on the basis of a d&v bug - apparently it can begin that way!

ofwarren · 16/03/2020 15:55

Where is today's death rate? This is a joke. They should never release details separately!

SubjectMatterExpert · 16/03/2020 15:55

It’s such simple stuff isn’t it. If they just said; PM to deliver update at cuz-time, would relieve a lot of stuff. Incompetents

bananacakeZ · 16/03/2020 15:57

Finally my Uni just put out that teaching will go online and staff should work from home wherever possible.

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 15:59

Testing, isolation and tracking is the backbone of the response.

The combination is the key

Break chain of transmissions. You cannot fight a fire blindfolded.

Test test test.

Every case. Isolate.
Contact.
Then test the routine contacts.

All confirmed cases even mild cases should be isolated.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 16/03/2020 15:59

WHO emphasising that countries 'must' test. Slight problem there for the UK.

1happyhippie · 16/03/2020 15:59

Anyone watching the WHO press conference?
Sounds like they are talking to the uk!
You must test every suspected case, isolate them and trace.
Repeating Test, test test

1happyhippie · 16/03/2020 15:59

Sorry 🙈😂 didn’t see the earlier comments

Coronavirus: Iceland stores to open early for older shoppers

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 16/03/2020 16:00

1st rule of comms:

Tell them what you're going to tell them.
Tell them what time you're going to tell them.
Then fucking tell them.
