Our school have closed to anyone except staff and pupils. All activities run by outsiders are cancelled.

Even the breakfast club and after school club having to congregate in the playground rather than inside as per usual.

21 years old 🤭

picklemewalnuts · 16/03/2020 14:38

Any information about why the paramedic dies at home? That surprised me.

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 14:39

21?! 😳

todayisnottuesday · 16/03/2020 14:39

soon when old people die of it, it will be ‘died due to heart conditions’ or died because of asthma, instead of acknowledging that it was the virus that finished them off!!

Depends - a lot of the Dr's in my hospital are not delighted at the government response- not sure how happily they'd collude with that sort of thing.

Quartz2208 · 16/03/2020 14:40

The 21 year old had aggressive leukemaia the article states he would have been fine otherwise.

Awful sad and tragic nonetheless

QueenofmyPrinces · 16/03/2020 14:42

The 21 year old had aggressive leukaemia so I think it’s a bit misleading to imply it happened to a healthy 21 year old. This is how newspapers scaremonger people.

I saw upthread that a poster had written that a 21 year old had died so naturally I panicked and thought nobody is safe from this, but when I googled it I realised that there was a lot more to it.

A very sad story of course, but it’s not black and white.

Pickledbrain1 · 16/03/2020 14:42

Sorry is the uk figures now just Scotland?

Pickledbrain1 · 16/03/2020 14:43

I’m confused? I don’t believe the figures released are accurate at all

Jerseygaly · 16/03/2020 14:46

Well young do die 0.2% of those that died plus that is a situation where people were worried so not out running about.

And young can still have underlying conditions
Asthma
Diabetes
Heart issues

Coquohvan · 16/03/2020 14:46

@pickled yes. Please be careful posting numbers specify country plz.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 16/03/2020 14:48

I've been on my immunosuppressive meds since I was 26.

ajandjjmum · 16/03/2020 14:49

It's bad enough without people/press trying to make it even more frightening! Awful that a 21 year old died - of anything - but the initial comments implying that they died purely from CV is misleading.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 16/03/2020 14:49

Well you can also look at it that there is 171 cases today then have got so bad they require hospital admission. Yet we still only have 20 in a serious/critical condition 🤔
Since 80% of us will only experience a mild case, I suggest multiplying that number by 5 to have a more accurate picture of what is going on

Boysadear · 16/03/2020 14:50

Our school in Northern Ireland has taken its own decision to close for next 2 weeks. I think a few in our area have. Anyone else?

cjt110 · 16/03/2020 14:50

As of 9am on 16 March 2020, 44,105 people have been tested in the UK, of which 42,562 were confirmed negative and 1,543 were confirmed as positive. Source

OP posts:
Fairineouf · 16/03/2020 14:51

3,826 additional tests reported with 4.47% found to be positive, 95.53% negative

Fairineouf · 16/03/2020 14:51

Sorry, should have said mine are UK stats.

Jerseygaly · 16/03/2020 14:51

I do think the gov need more honesty
Especially about telling others who aren't old that they could be at risk.
Someone with leukemia shouldn't have carried on training kids! Presuming that where he got it? Could have been abroad I guess though.

MurrayTheMonk · 16/03/2020 14:52

Dd2 is awake having been asleep since 9.45. Still hot and feeling rubbish. Mi know also feel rubbish.
Dd1 at school and fine.
They are due to go to their dads on Wednesday for their usual night with him and then it's his weekend this one coming. He had his elderly mum who has a dodgy chest anyway living with him at the moment. Just discussing wether they should go or not. Or if just the healthy one should go. It's still just the person with symptoms to self isolate isn't it? According to the advice? So by that rationale dd1 could go. But is it worth the risk?
I feel terrible that I'm not in work where it's bloody chaos!!

JemimaPuddleCat · 16/03/2020 14:53

ScotGov have confirmed one death today so it looks like the UK Gov are not specifying deaths for some reason.

Quartz2208 · 16/03/2020 14:55

He didnt know he had it from the article until he was admitted with the virus so it was all very quick. Very tough for everyone

QueenofmyPrinces · 16/03/2020 14:56

Someone with leukemia shouldn't have carried on training kids! Presuming that where he got it? Could have been abroad I guess though.

The paper implies he didn’t even know he had leukaemia.

defthand · 16/03/2020 14:57

Very interesting that the government has removed the death count from the official website.

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

I took a screenshot of this page two days ago and it definitely used to list them.

Fairineouf · 16/03/2020 14:58

Link to newspaper report on the 21 Spanish football coach who sadly died in Malaga. According to the report he had no idea he had leukaemia when he went into hospital with breathing difficulties.
