Switzerland national government media conference about to start any minute.

The whole country is expecting a national emergency to be announced and for a lockdown to be imposed.

It's bizarre and I don't like this movie I think I woke up in this morning!

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 14:11

The numbers will only make people less worried and less likely to stick to protocol. Washing hands frequently / self isolating etc etc.

You only have to look at the daily mail comments to see all the 'look numbers going down' shit!

Helenj1977 · 16/03/2020 14:11

This makes me so angry. I wish they'd treat everyone with symptoms.

How do people know when they've had it and are possibly immune??

Will be interesting to watch Boris later.

Still don't think he'll shut schools, had bbc news on all day and the experts are still strongly advising not to close schools.

Chilver · 16/03/2020 14:14

Very worried as to why they suddenly stopped reporting deaths....Hmm

Lotuscup563 · 16/03/2020 14:14

Our death rate won’t look bad, as soon when old people die of it, it will be ‘died due to heart conditions’ or died because of asthma, instead of acknowledging that it was the virus that finished them off!!

WhyNotMe40 · 16/03/2020 14:15

Maybe there were no deaths?

its2019ffs · 16/03/2020 14:15

I'm starting to get really frustrated, there has been a case in my ds school (not tested obviously) but they have been advised to contact everyone who has had contact with them on the last 2 weeks to self isolate. Yet the school is still open, no deep clean and they are threatening parents with the welfare officer if they don't deem the absence as necessary . A friend phone this morning saying her child has a cough and has been told they will not authorise the absence!

AllTheProsecco · 16/03/2020 14:16

Total 36 deaths from the mirror article. Is that 5 more?

Helenj1977 · 16/03/2020 14:17

I think they've gone down the Germany route. No death reporting of under lying health issues.

allthesharks · 16/03/2020 14:17

That's just 1 more since yesterday which is the first Welsh death.

AllTheProsecco · 16/03/2020 14:18

Oh so maybe mirror article not right?

WhoWants2Know · 16/03/2020 14:18

I would be very surprised at a low death count now, given that the only people being tested are ill enough to be in hospital.

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/03/2020 14:18

I read a description of closing schools as if we have a card to play which instantly reduces infection by 20%, so timing is crucial. Two weeks before peak iirc. But we only get one card.

What I don't get is not testing; unless they feel testing was spreading infection. I imagine they're basing everything on hospital icu cases.

danni0509 · 16/03/2020 14:18

Is that they will let us know number of deaths later or total number of tests carried out? X

its2019ffs · 16/03/2020 14:18

I'm also curious to know, if they are only testing people in hospital at what point do they get tested, if they are negative will they then keep testing them daily to see whether they've then caught it? Also if people have tested negative once will they not just think they are safe and carry on with their lives?

Feelingsolost1 · 16/03/2020 14:18

@ofwarren - you just beat me to it 😂

Oakmaiden · 16/03/2020 14:20

The mirror article is probably yesterdays figures along with Wales and Scotland. Have NI released yet?

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 16/03/2020 14:20

Evening standard just said 171 increase 🤷‍♀️

Feelingsolost1 · 16/03/2020 14:21

The total number of positive tests for coronavirus across the UK has risen to 1,543.

The figure is a rise of 171 in the last 24 hours.

However, with testing now only being carried out on patients admitted to hospital, the number of people infected is likely to be far higher.
