To feel upset about holidays

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 22:29

I know this is really selfish and entitled but is anyone else feeling a bit devastated that their holiday is probably totally fucked this year?

Due to go to Spain (Benidorm!) in 8 weeks and it’s looking very unlikely.

😭😭😭😭

I’m in a recently locked down country. To be fair the community spirit here is very good. Lots of people offering to go get shopping and prescriptions for people who are in need. The church speakers were pumped up this morning so the singing could be heard for miles.

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:41

Yeah I have very elderly neighbours with no family and we are making sure they have everything they need.

@fuzzyduck1 Ooh, lucky- Where are you going? I was due to go Tenerife next Monday, my flights aren't cancelled yet but will be due the the Spanish Lockdown 🙄

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:46

What happens if it’s cancelled? You contact your credit card company?

I feel scared, sad, I miss my mum who is local but I'm not going round atm and yes I am sad about my holiday. Its in July but I'm still feeling sad at the loss of normality.

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:49

I think in a few months it will be all ok.

Can I join in. Very upset as we are unlikely to go on the once in a lifetime Round the World trip. We can rearrange I guess but there are 4 of us going and we will probably never be able to rearrange for all sorts of reasons.

Just very sad. I know. There is much much worse going on. But feel heartbroken.

happyandsingle · 15/03/2020 23:49

Why are ppl worried for holidays in june/July? You may still be able to go by then.

Wehttam · 15/03/2020 23:50

Remember travel to any country right now could mean you putting an additional unnecessary burden onto their health system should you get sick.

timetest · 15/03/2020 23:50

I’m disappointed I won’t get my Easter in Tuscany but there are more serious things than my fortnight away to worry about.

Bathroom12345 · 15/03/2020 23:51

Won’t do anything yet as we don’t go until end of June but it gets worse and worse every day.

News is overwhelming

AngstyAnnie · 15/03/2020 23:51

I was supposed to be going on holiday next week. All paid for and pretty much zero chance of getting my money back 😭 So disappointing!

Bathroom12345 · 15/03/2020 23:53

Happy. I don’t think so and I am a half full sort of person but seeing Italy and the horror they are enduring. Was only there last year. My DH proposed to me in Tuscany

Bathroom12345 · 15/03/2020 23:54

Sandy other holiday and it would be fine but this time is just awful.

fuzzyduck1 · 15/03/2020 23:56

Thailand 😷

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 15/03/2020 23:56

Of course it's natural.

You have to laugh about people mocking it because they are "devastated about the deaths to come". They are not , they are only bothered because it might (and probably will sadly)touch them.

There are people abused, tortured, starving, dying all over the word and most of these deaths could have been avoided with proper action or treatment. You never heard people so devastated then. Bunch of hypocrites.

So you are perfectly allowed to regret the "small" effect on your life, be scared of what might happen and feel sorry for those who will have it worst. It means you are not an hypocrite.

marcopront · 16/03/2020 00:03

I was meant to take my daughter to see her Dad at Easter but his country has closed it's borders except for citizens and residents. She could get in but I can't and we don't know if she could get back.

Rachie1973 · 16/03/2020 00:04

What JustInCaseCakeHappens said!

Whetton is just too excited to take seriously.

DoreensEatingHerSoreen · 16/03/2020 00:07

I'm sad about the fact that I may not be able to go on some of the trips I've booked this year (though still hopeful for New York and Disneyland Paris both in August).
I spent all of last year not travelling - at home unwell due to chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. DS and I missed out on the holidays and activities we had planned together.
I'm now living with incurable (stage 4) breast cancer - I'm responding well to treatment so I'm relatively fit and health and able to travel.
This year was supposed to be full of treats for DS to make up for the horrible year he had last year, we are planning special trips while I'm well, as we don't know when that could change. My treatment is working well for now, but it won't work forever. I may not have a "next year" to reschedule to (I hope I do!)... but I'm trying to do things now.
I'm sad about this - it doesn't take away from the fact that I'm also sad about those that will suffer and die from COVID.
I'm a bit sick of hearing that people who are travelling / planning on travelling for pleasure are selfish ... it's not always that black and white.

Saranvenya · 16/03/2020 00:08

I’ll start with saying I have a chronic lung problem so I am scared, really, really scared.
Also devastated for the rest of the world and what will happen and all the deaths and loss that will happen.
BUT
I’m also really sad that our holiday is now gone, booked for DSS 18th so last family holiday.
It’s not comparable so why try to make others feel like shit with the snide comments...

madcatladyforever · 16/03/2020 00:10

I haven't been able to afford to book a holiday or go away for years as I always seem to be supporting someone in a mess, husbands, relatives, kids so I couldn't care less.
Same for me as every year.

MadameBee · 16/03/2020 00:12

@DoreensEatingHerSoreen

I am really sorry your trips might be ruined. I guess you could try within the UK? Sad

DDs Italy school trip and our summer holiday are both stuffed and doubt we will get refunds for either. Though with DDs school trip we will just lose the £285 deposit as insurer and travel agent won't help as it's early June. Can't see things improving by then but not willing to risk the whole amount on insurance roulette.

Summer was to Thailand, Perhentians Islands and Borneo and it's currently a 14 day quarantine in Thailand. £2.35k of that is non-refundable and currently airlines and insurance and non-refundable hotels won't pay out but they are being hit hard too. And looks like I will shortly be teaching kids from home for 4 months so no income either. Pretty awful year around the world, so sad to see 368 dead in Italy in last 24 hours, poor Italy.

NeckPainChairSearch · 16/03/2020 00:14

Doreen I hope you get at least one of your trips planned this year. Flowers

MadameBee · 16/03/2020 00:15

@NeckPainChairSearch

Me too
