To feel upset about holidays

I know this is really selfish and entitled but is anyone else feeling a bit devastated that their holiday is probably totally fucked this year?

Due to go to Spain (Benidorm!) in 8 weeks and it’s looking very unlikely.

😭😭😭😭

I have holidays booked off work to spend some precious time with my DD who attends a boarding school and my DS home from Uni over Easter but I work for a Funeral Director and as morbid as it may sound, I feel I might be needed more at work than at home during this terrible time so I will go in if needs must. I had planned to surprise my daughter with a few days in Paris post GCSEs but it will just have to wait I suspect until next year. It’s vexing but not important in the bigger scheme of things as I see on a daily basis.

JaceLancs · 15/03/2020 23:19

I’m upset about prospect of no holidays thus year and can’t really afford to lose it if I don’t get refunded
Hoping that by July things may be different

TigerBilly · 15/03/2020 23:21

Thanks @MadameBee but it could be worse, at I have toilet roll 🤣

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:22

I do worry if we go into lockdown what will happen to children on CP plans as I work fit children’s services and we have not been given any contingency plans (and have continued to visit schools and homes in a daily basis with no advice!).

I have bog roll but no soap - I have made my own “anti bac” spray by diluting Zoflora and using my empty anti bac bottle.

@ Midsommar

You will be happy to know that the manager of my Santorini hotel (who's refusing to refund) assures me that everything will be back to normal by May 5 Wink, the date we're due to arrive. I am now asking for a credit for next year.

Knittingnanny · 15/03/2020 23:24

Tiger billy I’m sorry for all of the people whose jobs are being affected, my youngest son will be laid off soon I think. I was just about to book my yearly visits to visit my other sons and their families in USA and Far East, will miss seeing my grandchildren.

Wingedharpy · 15/03/2020 23:27

The economic, social and health impact of this Pandemic truly is mind boggling.
I can't help but feel that life after this, will never be the same again.

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:29

Am glad my kids have no holidays booked, early twenties, living away from home and tight budgets.

I was due to go away next weekend, we're not going but it looks we should get some of our money back at least (not a package and involving more than one country). No point booking anything else or thinking about a summer holiday as no idea what will happen with the situation

I know people dying is more important but I work really hard, have a really stressful job and I was looking forward to my holiday. I'm gutted and anyone else who has had to cancel a holiday has my sympathy

NeckPainChairSearch · 15/03/2020 23:30

In all honesty, I haven't really given it much thought. I felt a fleeting sadness for my DC - there's nothing as joyful and exciting as a family holiday - but faced with the enormity of what's unfolding, no.

I do feel really sad for anyone - like pp on this thread - who have special, meaningful trips planned that now won't go ahead and so on. We're not in that category - I've got little to complain about.

Wehttam · 15/03/2020 23:30

I’m devastated because the number of dead will be unimaginable.

I’m devastated because there are no where near enough ICU beds

I’m devastated because there aren’t enough respirators

I’m devastated because some over 70s will die lonely and scared

I’m devastated because cancer patients are high risk

I’m devastated because the economy is fucked

I’m devastated because buying food is going to be hard and limited choices.

I’m devastated because crime is going to sky rocket

I’m devastated because my aunt is self isolating to save her life

I’m devastated because thousands and thousands will lose their jobs

Shall I go on?

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:31

I know people dying is more important but I work really hard, have a really stressful job and I was looking forward to my holiday. I'm gutted and anyone else who has had to cancel a holiday has my sympathy

Exactly.

Your stressful job is going to be a walk in the park when you realise what lies beyond this.

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:33

Nothing like an optimist 👍🏻

Wehttam

You know it's possible to be worried sick about those things AND feeling a bit sore about missing a long-for holiday?

It's pretty normal to be able to do both.

Wehttam · 15/03/2020 23:34

Madame realist

Cakemonger · 15/03/2020 23:34

I don't like this thing of policing what people are allowed to be upset about. Of course it's ok and natural to feel upset about losing a holiday. It doesn't mean you don't realise there are people are going through worse.

RollaCola84 · 15/03/2020 23:35

@Wehttam given you don't know what I do, I'm just going to say. No it won't be.

I'm sad for people who can't comprehend being sad about multiple things at a personal and bigger picture level.

Wehttam · 15/03/2020 23:36

If you are affected by something so simple as cancelling a holiday then you really do need to come to some realisation of what is happening in the world right now. Your bubble is about to burst and you are going to be endangering yourself by letting the simple things get to you.

happyandsingle · 15/03/2020 23:37

Well I'm booked to go turkey in june and I will definitely be going unless the holiday company cancel but in hoping by june it will be ok.

RollaCola84 · 15/03/2020 23:38

@wehttam ODFOD

fuzzyduck1 · 15/03/2020 23:38

Going on holiday tomorrow, the airline has not cancelled the flights so far !

Booked before the current events

Have travel insurance

happyandsingle · 15/03/2020 23:38

How can people predict what will happen in so many months time anyway.
