Sorry that should of said, world o meter didn't update for over an hour after the breaking news yesterday of
10 more (not 11) from yesterday.

Sorry wouldn't let me edit my post to correct my mistake.

danni0509 · 15/03/2020 14:18

A patient in his late 50's with underlying health conditions has died in Bristol, that is breaking news.

I'm not sure if that's the only death in the last 24 hours or more is to follow?

Lumene · 15/03/2020 14:20

Thanks Bercows

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 15/03/2020 14:21

My DCs school has just posted on fb for those with immediate family with health problems to phone the school in the morning. Which I was doing anyway, but seems I won't be alone now!

So frustrated! Ds has had a fever since wednesday, we've been controlling it with calpol and can get it down but half hour ago I checked and its 41.7!!! I checked both ears to make sure and yep it really is that high. So I phone 111.... waste of time! Just keep giving him calpol and keep him at home. Ffs. 4 days with a fever in the 40s, he's 4 years old!! And we only have less than half a bottle of calpol left and cant buy it anywhere.
I dont blame the 111 service, they are only doing as they are instructed by our incompetent government but really frustrated.

MacronsPensWiper · 15/03/2020 14:24

Can't link but good opinion piece in today's.. Guardian from the epidemiologist.

He thought govs approach was satire

ofwarren · 15/03/2020 14:25

@ahipponamedbooboobutt
That what scares me.
My son would normally be hospitalised for a temp over 40 because of his liver transplant.
They won't do that now in case it's coronavirus but it could mean he's in rejection 😭

MurrayTheMonk · 15/03/2020 14:25

I've had to go in to work as We're pretty sure a service user in my care service is ill with what I assume to be Corona. High temperature and I think a sore throat but hard to tell as she is non verbal and can't specifically tell us. The noises she can make sound throaty though.
I don't know for sure however as she 'isn't ill enough yet to be tested'. Ie she isn't yet struggling to breathe. Probably won't be long though as there are plenty of underlying health conditions.
Whatever she has will be passed in to the staff caring for her (I don't have enough already with three out self isolating) and the to the other service users a couple of whom I would class as already quite unwell with ongoing conditions.

I think she must have got it from a hospital visit on Monday, as other than that she hasn't been out for weeks due to mobility/MH issues.

Called 111 who said to monitor her and fully isolate her in a room if we can. (We can't-residents share two bathrooms and staff have to be in and out and to other clients as they nearly all need 1-1, which they already aren't getting).
Called PHE-they said to monitor her.
Called senior management-they didn't answer the phone ShockAngry
Left an email on the Local authority hub which is supposed to give advice in an emergency.
Called duty social work who said to call 111 🤷🏽‍♀️

I've had a little cry in my office, then brave faced it and went out and told the staff to keep hand washing, to clean anything she has touched etc etc. They are panicking and stressed.
We can't get any face masks, ours will run out by mid week and I'm worried about gloves-have a week to two weeks worth I think as I managed to forage some more up yesterday after usual suppliers couldn't fill order.

There is no help. No guidance. No nothing.

They talk about measures 'next week'. FFS. That's a bit too late for me actually.

Ciwirocks · 15/03/2020 14:26

Ahippo can you call your GP surgery for a consultation tomorrow? They might have some sway re getting him assessed safely in hospital if needed.

danni0509 · 15/03/2020 14:27

@ofwarren that's scary! Bless you.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 15/03/2020 14:27

@MurrayTheMonk, this is dreadful for you all. It needs to be publicised.

WhyNotMe40 · 15/03/2020 14:28

Murray - that sounds a horrible situation. If you are anywhere near me you can have my box of gloves, already opened, that I use for cleaning as I get eczema. It's a pack of 50 and I think I've only used a few pairs.. I don't know if that's any use?

BeijingBikini · 15/03/2020 14:28

41.7 is really, really high. Apprently 42+ can cause brain damage. I would go to A&E

MacronsPensWiper · 15/03/2020 14:28

Of Warren.

This is what I have sort of experienced, corona is now a barrier to treating other conditions.

woodencoffeetable · 15/03/2020 14:28

hippo if no calpol, can you get paracetamol capsules?
you could open them carefully and mix the content with jam.
dosage is on the nhs website here
a child his age should take 240mg which is about half an adult capsule.

MacronsPensWiper · 15/03/2020 14:29

Of Warren can you get letter now explaining this from doctor that you can present to hospital if you need to go.

MurrayTheMonk · 15/03/2020 14:29

What difference would it make? There is no plan b... I'm really upset.
All my staff have kids, parents, and none of them get bloody sick pay til day 3... they are freaking out about what will happen. I'd be surprised if half of them come in tomorrow.

SistemaAddict · 15/03/2020 14:29

I've just checked our school website and there's nothing new. Just the whole trustwide letter saying don't keep your child off unless they have symptoms. They are not being proactive at all. We have some very vulnerable heart patients at school too.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 15/03/2020 14:29

@ofwarren it scares me as that's when he'd at least see a GP. The chances of it being Covid19 are highly unlikely and it could be for a million other reasons that is just being ignored because of this blanket stay at home idea. How many serious illnesses are going to go untreated? Its terrifying

MurrayTheMonk · 15/03/2020 14:30

Thankyou whynotme-thats a lovely thought x

KimonoKim · 15/03/2020 14:30

I’ve made a petition – will you sign it?

My petition:

Order supermarkets to open for 2 hours every morning to vulnerable and elderly

Order the supermarkets to open for 2 hours every morning during the virus crisis just to elderly and vulnerable people to ensure they can get the provisions they desperately need!

Vulnerable people need to be protected and provided with what they need, and the population seems to be taking more then they need leaving not enough for everyone else!

georgeggg · 15/03/2020 14:30

Murraythemonk sick pay is now paid from day 1

Toomanyapplesinthefruitbowl · 15/03/2020 14:30

@AHippoNamedBooBooButt do you have a paediatric A&E near you? If so, go there. 41.7 after calpol is very high and needs physical examination

whereareyousleep · 15/03/2020 14:30

Hippo I know they will be slammed but I'd take him to a&e with that temperature they blue lighted by son with a 41.2 last year.
