Deborah Cohen@deborah_cohen
Chatting to frontline doctors all weekend and this is what they’re saying:

GPs already seeing covid19 in nursing homes yet the staff have no PPE or even basic surgical masks. Anyone can walk in and no checks even to see if they have symptoms. They say social care is unprepared

Some GPs feel there's no coherent plan for primary care so they’re devising their own plans.

Some GP practices and Trusts don’t have adequate PPE. Some doctors caring for covid-19 patients don’t have FFP3 masks and are being told to use ordinary surgical ones instead

Some people are going to A+E with covid-19 symptoms who are angry and demanding to be seen. Security has no protective equipment

Coronavirus: Prisoners could be released early if COVID-19 spreads to staff and inmates

The Prison Officers' Association says nothing is being ruled out, including the use of prison ships if UK jails are infected.

After Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham said this earlier, this about the Tory party itself.

Johnson doesn't necessarily have full support of own party. This is important.

Katy Balls @katyballs
As wrote on Saturday, Tory MPs have gone from heaping praise on the 'three wise men' press conferences to voicing concern over 'herd immunity' reports
inews.co.uk/opinion/columnists/coronavirus-analysis-conservative-party-twitchy-covid-19-strategy-voting-lobbies-2450620
Coronavirus: Tories twitchy over high-stakes Covid-19 strategy, with voting lobbies a source of concern for MPs
No 10’s approach rests on the idea that the virus will probably return this winter when the NHS is least able to deal with it

Hancock interview today was an effort to bring clarity on the approach – 'Herd immunity is not our policy, it's not our goal. Our goal is to protect life. I want to be absolutely crystal clear that we will do what is necessary to protect life.'

Already calls within party to make the press conferences daily – with PM, Patrick Vallance and Chris Whitty – so as to calm public/make sure clear information for all.

Andrew Neil @afneil
There should be daily broadcast press conferences. For the sake of transparency, communication and accuracy. Social media currently awash in all manner of drivel. Thank goodness for the mainstream media!!

It has been retweeted by other journalists...

anonacfr · 15/03/2020 13:49

By the way has anyone done the 111 questionnaire as advised by Boris in case of 'manageable symptoms'?
Literally 2 questions.
Do you have a fever and/or cough.

If so does it prevent you from going about your daily routine such as watching TV.
If not just stay home.

So basically unless you feel so shit you can't even watch TV, don't bother.

I like this thread being focussed on understanding the new information, and working out how it applies to our own situations.
I like having somewhere to come where people are not afraid to look at what is coming- even though we don't like it. I had some frustrating conversations at church this morning.
It's great to see trends and problems ahead of time, and consider how best to react.

I'm less keen on the political stuff, whose fault is it etc. I'm not sure how that helps.

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 13:55

My friend in South Korea has been tested as a precaution meanwhile he knows people in the UK showing symptoms not being tested.

Namethecat · 15/03/2020 13:57

Carlislemumof4
I also love in Cumbria (West).
We are social distancing , but will do things like take a flask out and have in the car.
Drove to Keswick yesterday , with idea to park near the lake.
Keswick was rammed with people , market was on , lots of people coming out of the shops. Crazy.

middleager · 15/03/2020 13:58

The Three Wise men makes me cringe.

More like see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil....🙈🙉🙊

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2020 13:59

The political stuff is important simply because of how important communication is to this crisis.

I wish it wasn't myself tbh.

It's relevant to the messages we are getting and the information we are getting.

We should be in a place we're there is transparency and everyone sharing information to help our understanding of the steps the government are taken for our protection / health rather that leaked stories to newspapers.

The fact our government has chosen a different path to WHO and other countries is rightly a cause for concern. The government do need to justify and explain a different strategy.

The lack of underlying trust is a massive hurdle to getting support for an approach which isn't being followed by others.

Twasbambam · 15/03/2020 14:00

More like see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil....

Exactly how I see them!

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 14:03

Beth Rigby - 'Sunlight’s the best disinfectant.

  • SAGE will publish models so othes experts can see the basis on which govt making decisions
  • Also confirmation other interventions (shielding vulnerable & household isolation if someone in family sick) coming “soon” '
SistemaAddict · 15/03/2020 14:04

I don't feel sorry for BJ at all. He was happy to fuck us over with brexit but now he knows this could affect him too he's scared. Shoe on the other foot now is it? No sympathy. He wanted the job and needs to accept he doesn't just get the fun bits and to please the ERG and the rest of his cronies. Shit just got serious and he's bricking it.

MacronsPensWiper · 15/03/2020 14:05

@OldQueen1969

chomalungma · 15/03/2020 14:09

People can see what other countries are doing.
They can see Trump doing press conferences regularly.

We get leaked hints to journalists and articles behind paywalls.

danni0509 · 15/03/2020 14:10

All I see is interviews from other countries leaders.

Total joke all this.

Lumene · 15/03/2020 14:11

Are today’s U.K. figures out yet?

diddl · 15/03/2020 14:12

All the best to those of you who think you might have it.

Keep thinking that the chances of getting it are low, but as someone with asthma, am terrified of what the outcome might be if I do.

MabelMoo23 · 15/03/2020 14:12

Completely agree, at times like this, there should not be articles behind paywalls

EstuaryBird · 15/03/2020 14:12

I may be a bit naive but I do feel a bit sorry for Matt Hancock, I think he’s well aware that when the shit hits the fan Boris and his controller are going to make sure that it all lands on him.
When I see him on TV I see a scared man who’s saying what he’s been told to say even though he knows it’s crap and that history will judge him on it...

danni0509 · 15/03/2020 14:12

Not that I can see. I keep refreshing all the pages.

Should be any minute judging by previous days.

SistemaAddict · 15/03/2020 14:12

@Lumene I've just checked the gov website and they aren't there yet.

ajandjjmum · 15/03/2020 14:12

I think anyone with a heart would feel sorry for the Govt. team running this - it is an unheard of crisis, that no-one has experience in dealing with. I hope they are making decisions for the right reasons (personally, I don't see why they wouldn't be, but I know others think differently), and I am glad their thoughts/ideas are being challenged. That will surely make the result stronger - although we have to accept the fact that no-one knows what they're dealing with.

I have no interest in personalities or trying to politicize this situation - it's bad enough for us all as things stand.

danni0509 · 15/03/2020 14:13

World o meter didn't update until almost an hour after breaking news of the 11 deaths yesterday.

Youngatheart00 · 15/03/2020 14:15

No figures yet as far as I can see
