@murraythemonk I agree - the official advice is for everyone else to carry on as normal, but that doesn't really make sense - if nothing else people don't neatly show symptoms at 7am!

waspfig · 16/03/2020 09:57

*Medical experts on BBC breakfast advising whole households to isolate if a family member has symptoms.

thanks waspfig that's helpful to know*

@colouringinpro
Sorry, to clarify this, they said if someone in the household is vulnerable then the whole family should isolate. To prevent them from bringing anything home.

Jenny Hill - State of emergency declared in Bavaria. The state prime minister Markus Soeder says that all leisure facilities must close immediately and that the opening hours of food shops are to be extended.

Cora1942 · 16/03/2020 10:02

Murray you are right government advice makes no sense.
I have just been reading accounts of people who tested positive for coronavirus. The first few days the symptoms are described as runny nose, sore throat, aches and pains. The temperature and cough come later. So if people are only isolating when they get a temperature and cough they will have been spreading the virus before this time.

AllTheProsecco · 16/03/2020 10:02

@Angryrant55 please could you add sources to your posts? Just writing 'mass panic buying' is not helpful to anyone.

LuxLFC · 16/03/2020 10:02

The NHS petition link is in the guardian article - it's the writing in red. I tried to link it directly but having trouble on my mobile.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 10:02

Boses still argue who is essential - is the cook or cleaner in an essential workplace essential.

Motorina · 16/03/2020 10:03

Woman's Hour on R4 now has a phonecall on this. Particularly seeking out positive stories of how communities are pulling together.

MurrayTheMonk · 16/03/2020 10:04

I've called work and told them to stop sending service users to day centres today. Fuck the advice. Absurd to send service users that are vulnerable via buses to mix with other service users that are vulnerable and then go back to their care services.

Ive said that any staff with symptoms should go home directly. We will deal with the staffing somehow but I can't have service users with this. The lady we thought had it is cooler in temperature this morning thankfully. Who knows if she had it or not 🤷🏽‍♀️ no testing, even for vulnerable adults in care settings.

Staff are panicking, gloves order arrived-about half of what we normally receive and what we need-no more to be found-priority to nursing homes apparently. We have 8 physically and mentally disabled service users, all incontinent, all of whom receive personal care numerous times daily and yet as we are a residential rather than nursing home (which is another story), we don't need gloves for the staff to do care?! (Including pad changes, catheter wash outs, Stoma bags and peg feed maintenance)W.T.F????? Am I meant to give everyone a pair of marigolds and tell
Them to crack on????

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 10:05

Thank you for that @luxlfc I have now signed but I noticed it's not on the official government site - perhaps it should be moved over there to force MPs to debate it.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 10:05

AndrewSparrow - 'Over-70s asked to 'stay at home' should get more family contact, not less, says Scottish health chief.'

EducatingArti · 16/03/2020 10:06

So, regarding the testing of NHS staff. I was talking to a senior doctor friend who said there isn't really much point in testing staff with mild symptoms.
She said if you test before they have symptoms you are likely to get false negatives anyway. If they have symptoms they will be self isolating at home as per government advice. If you tested them it would put added burden on the testing system ( additional testing is still only just coming on line) so that it would be at least 5 days before you got a result. So it is better just to assume Covid19 and self isolate for 7 days anyway. It won't make much difference to the staffing levels in hospitals. She felt it was better to save the testing for those ill in hospital so you could get a more rapid response to identify those who needed strict isolation and more PPE for those staff looking after them.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 10:08

@murraythemonk that sounds really difficult. I wonder if it is worth trying to share your story in the press to highlight these issues.

Lynamic · 16/03/2020 10:09

Does anyone think modern society is set up for women to work far too much and maybe it's not working out ? I hate the word 'childcare'

MurrayTheMonk · 16/03/2020 10:09

I think it's the same for lots of care homes just now 🤷🏽‍♀️

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 10:09

How can people self isolating for 7 days not make a difference to staffing levels in hospitals? That doesn't make any sense to me.

cjt110 · 16/03/2020 10:12

Morning all.

buttonmoonb4tea · 16/03/2020 10:13

@SansaSnark do you have the link to the petition please?

cjt110 · 16/03/2020 10:14

Does anyone know what time the cobra meeting is today?

Lynamic · 16/03/2020 10:14

Good morning cj

SistemaAddict · 16/03/2020 10:16

Aren't the meetings usually about 11am?

Playing teacher not going too well with ds who is refusing to do the tasks I set him so far. Tomorrow will be more organised I'm sure.

I would FWR how many others are off school at their schools.

SistemaAddict · 16/03/2020 10:16

Wonder that should say!

onalongsabbatical · 16/03/2020 10:19
