didn't think I could be more staggered than in recent days but to hear that weak plea this morning '' we need more than ventilators, if you make some we will buy them''

He's only just getting on the this now? Now!!

There are numerous patents involved in ventilation!!

If there is any evidence that UK is slow to act its this.

ofwarren · 15/03/2020 13:22

Equatorial Guinea - 1st case of #coronavirus.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 15/03/2020 13:23

Over the moon to see that anti-inflams increase my risk up another notch!

WhyNotMe40 · 15/03/2020 13:25

So if I have an occasional cough (every hour or so) and my chest feels a bit tight as if there's something there, but no temperature - it's got to be pretty unlikely I've got it surely? I will be self isolating but I'm pretty sure it's just a cough

Oakmaiden · 15/03/2020 13:25

I don't know if it is because of increased testing, but cases are shooting up in Wales. Doubling approx every 36 hours - and today up 34 to 94.

Why outbreaks like coronavirus spread
exponentially, and how to “flatten the curve”

Love this article with simulations of quarantine, moderate distancing and extensive distancing.

The take home is that even if the government don't do anything, the most you can distance yourself the more you can slow it.

Oakmaiden · 15/03/2020 13:27

He's only just getting on the this now? Now!!

It could be that they spoke privately to firms weeks ago, but are now doing a public "announcement" in order to make it look like they are doing something extra today.

Janemarpling · 15/03/2020 13:28

Oak. Lets hope so

Toomanyapplesinthefruitbowl · 15/03/2020 13:28

Any idea what time the meeting today is? And therefore when we might expect an announcement?

ajandjjmum · 15/03/2020 13:30

I don't think there is a meeting today - it's tomorrow.

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 13:30

Antonello Guerrera - 'BREAKING. According to @Le_Figaro, also French President Macron is silently supporting the "HERD IMMUNITY OPTION" to fight #CoronaVirus, in a similar approach to the UK.;

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 15/03/2020 13:31

NB - what I said upthread about the in-laws area not getting any cases wasn't right, there are cases showing now (Wales)

waspfig · 15/03/2020 13:31

@Sugarhouse it's really annoying actually as baby has been ebf up to last month but I'm returning to work soon so cut down to only nursing at night. Now all of a sudden we need to get hold of formula! At least she's an older baby. I really feel for new mothers who I'm sure will be very anxious about the thought of keeping their babies fed.

I never thought I would feel for Boris. I really dislike him. But seeing him at the news conference on Thursday and the fear in his eyes scared me. The Buffon in him had all gone.

He thought he was signing up to “ get Brexit done” and take that risk as hero or villain. He didn’t sign up for this and I feel sorry for him. I genuinely think he wants to do the right thing for the country but doesn’t have a clue what that is.

It’s a horrible responsibility for anyone to have to deal with, even your worst enemy.

Thanks for the best wishes earlier. My temp seems to have gone down now and is “normal”. So now I don’t know what to do!

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 15/03/2020 13:33

Wasp, it should - theoretically - be possible to up your supply again, if that's easier?

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 15/03/2020 13:35

Agree random, I'm not a Boris fan at all but do feel for him atm, even with his imbecilic plan. Not what he signed up for, and I have never seen him less blustery. Which is rather scary on its own, never mind that he looked terrified

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 13:37

What other option is there when it gets to Italy, Spain, France levels?

How do you stop getting to 60%?

Oakmaiden · 15/03/2020 13:37

This is an interesting except from the Public Health Wales statement, about testing:

“The move into the ‘delay’ phase, will include working closely with health boards, NHS 111 and the Welsh Government towards transitioning away from community testing and contact tracing. Testing will now focus on cases admitted to hospital, in line with national guidance, and based on symptoms and severity.

“The move away from community testing gives us greater capacity to test in hospital settings, where the most vulnerable patients will be cared for."

“While there is no longer a need to identify every case through community testing, we will still need to and will be able to report on Novel Coronavirus level in Wales. In a similar way to our seasonal flu reporting, we will be undertaking routine Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) surveillance which will help us understand the picture in Wales."

So some testing/monitoring of numbers outside the hospital cases will still be done.

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2020 13:39

Alec Luhn @asluhn
Russian authorities posted about the first 3 cases of #COVID2019 community transmission today, people who had not been infected abroad. Then this post was deleted with no explanation 🤔. (Via @tvrain @PjotrSauer)

And there is your answer to what's happening in Russia.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/03/2020 13:39

Spain must be as bad as Italy or at least catching up quickly?

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 13:41

93 deaths in Spain in 24 hours.

God help us all.

Gammeldragz · 15/03/2020 13:42

Morning all. Woken up with a headache and slight temperature. It was 37.3, so I put off taking paracetamol until I was sure it wasn't going up, but gone down to 37.1 now so I've had some (don't want to mask a fever as I won't know when to isolate). Will check again tonight and before work tomorrow, just in case.

Taking DCs out for a walk in a bit, need to get away from the Internet for a while! I've spend hours a day on this for last month or two and the problem is, there's always more to read. Need to force switch off or it will be harmful to my mental health. I'm not an anxious person at all, but my response to any crisis is usually read all about it and just feel a bit I overwhelmed by it all occasionally.

Hoping some actual government advice may come out from them directly later, rather than filtering it out through the media. We shall see.

Chersfrozenface · 15/03/2020 13:42

I have no sympathy for Boris Johnson. He wanted to be PM, he's wanted it for years. He should have realised that the role involves responsibility for whatever comes down the track during your tenure. And that if you can't be bothered to do the work yourself, and get the wrong people to do it for you, you're stuffed. But he didn't even think about any of that.
