Scotland is planning mass testing via GPS apparently. Hopefully that gives the rest of us some indication of prevalence:

“Prof. @devisridhar welcomes the Scottish Government's move towards mass testing at GPs practices saying it's a "really positive move" as the U.K. Government has said it won't test outside hospitals. Testing's essential to delay the spread, she says. #coronavirus #PoliticsScotland”

GPs

Darn autocorrect. 😂

More info:

“Surveillance testing for COVID-19 (coronavirus) will be expanded to monitor the spread of the virus in the community. The programme will be extended to GP practices covering up to 1.2 million people across all health boards in Scotland.

It will test people presenting with relevant symptoms, including with flu-like symptoms or general respiratory illness and underlying health conditions. It will also support the continued testing of people admitted to hospital with symptoms.
...

“This new approach to testing will enable us to understand the pattern and spread of coronavirus in the community, to develop a clear assessment of the situation and to predict the peak number of cases, without having to test everyone with possible symptoms.”

Someone in tesco stood at the top of one aisle and screamed at the top of her voice “I will barge anyone with my trolley who gets in my way, I don’t give a fuck anymore”. 😬😬😀

Worst thing was, nobody batted an eyelid!

Well that really does blow the whole 'cross party' thing up doesn't it really?

I'm so glad I don't have to deal with this shit.

The saying that we are only ever 2 weeks away from anarchy hasn't hit so close to the bone before.

defthand · 15/03/2020 13:06

I think Scotland’s got it right. There’s no need to test everyone with mild symptoms but they do need to understand the way it’s spreading in the community. There’s very critical data points the U.K. government will be lacking stopping widespread testing this early.

Does anyone know how long it's taking people to recover or for want of a better word the profile of people who have recovered?

Had to give husband a talking to yesterday.

He panic bought toilet paper & pasta (just one packet of each but even so!)

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 13:06

So grateful to this thread for inspiring me to stock up a little the week before last before the run on certain items started. I normally shop week to week on our tight budget, use everything up before buying more. Supermarket just down the road.

Now have a few days to a week's worth of food and toiletries for our family of six put away and can shop as normal. Stocked up a little on food and litter for my cat too.

I don't judge when I see people with big trollies full though, I'm sure the extra I bought looked a lot to others but like I say it'll be used within days when it's needed. Shopping for just the basics for four kids takes some doing.

We're beyond the baby and toddler stage, feel for everyone worrying about formula milk and nappies. At least I can easily look for alternatives.

My elderly parents live out in the lakes, they both still drive and are normally very independent with far busier social lives than me but if they need to isolate and can't get deliveries I'll drive shopping out to them too.

DD has said her throat is a little sore in the last hour. She's only coughed once (like a throat clearing cough) and she has no temp.
I've sent her to bed for now but dont know, is this just a fluke (she's been on the PC all day and not been coming down for a drink)

danni0509 · 15/03/2020 13:10

@Horehound I just hope the lockdown doesn't happen after they have arrived 😆

@waspfig was only saying to DH the other day how relieved I am breastfeeding has worked out this time as baby formula would probably soon be in short supply. Hope you manage to find some more they really need to ration it

Sunshinesky1981 · 15/03/2020 13:15

It's scary what we are seeing in the shops here as worry about shortages happen. To be honest though I'm bloody glad I'm in the UK and not the USA. The situation they may be in if food/medical shortages happen, couple that with less social and financial safety nets and i can imagine that there could be mass civil unrest. Add into the mix the amount of guns in the USA, both legal and otherwise, I would be pretty worried

MacronsPensWiper · 15/03/2020 13:16

It's sir Patrick!

I strongly sense he is pushing this with his glaxo Smith kleine background....

Boris would be trotting out whatever his medical staff told him... He must be Terrified, he has two choices.

  1. go agaisnt his own impartial medical officers

2)go with his medical officers agaisnt the rest of the world.

Confused

We are in deep crap..

Matt Hancock... Compared to Jeremy hunt!

Jeremy hunt was visibly reeling.

I didn't think I could be more staggered than in recent days but to hear that weak plea this morning '' we need more than ventilators, if you make some we will buy them''

He's only just getting on the this now? Now!!

There are numerous patents involved in ventilation!!

I can't imagine what is going on!

I'm a swing voter. I'm not against Boris.

I get the feeling he himself is reeling because of the advice he is given.
When he kept glancing at them flanking him in the press conference it was almost like.... You two have got me into this mess, you explain your bat shit policies to the people.

That's what I felt.

Sir Patrick needs getting rid of or whoever said this needs to run rampant in our country.

MacronsPensWiper · 15/03/2020 13:17

Gosh sunshine your right about the gun situation

DivisionBelles · 15/03/2020 13:17

I'm really worried about my mum. She's 77 and works P/T on the checkouts in a supermarket to supplement her pension. She's on her own, prone to MH issues, so I'm concerned what being forced to isolate for a few months will do to her both in terms of finance and her MH. Would like to know how the supermarket, who in the whole country must have lots of employees over 70, are going to deal with this.

Is it 2pm U.K. figures are released?

Not that it matters really since it's not exactly an accurate number.
