2 emergency room doctors (in NJ and WA) are in critical condition after treating patients with COVID-19,

colouringinpro · 15/03/2020 21:52

OMG Red that story is terrible! Our poor doctors and nurses 😱

buttermilkwaffles · 15/03/2020 21:55

"What I can clearly say is that what we do, or don’t do, over the next week will have a massive impact on the local and perhaps national trajectory of coronavirus. "

Where the South Koreans were attending hospital in full hazmat suits, I will be arriving in my suit and tie tomorrow with nothing to prevent me catching it,

This is a fucking disgrace. I keep seeing pics of nurses doing drive-thru swabs wearing just a plastic apron and a surgical mask as PPE. There will be noone well enough to care for patients.

mrshoho · 15/03/2020 21:56

we haven't stocked up on food either. I take my mum and mil food shopping every week and will continue getting for them if they can't go out. We normally do online delivery for ours but have seen no slots available for 3plus weeks. We wont starve and I refuse to join the crazy panic buying.

middleager · 15/03/2020 21:57

I don't get it. The Govt knew it was coming, have a window to other countries yet does nothing and scrambling around for ventilators and old hospitals.
(China erected new hospitals in days with no warning).

"Good-morning, good-morning!” the General said
When we met him last week on our way to the line.
Now the soldiers he smiled at are most of 'em dead,
And we're cursing his staff for incompetent swine.
“He's a cheery old card,” grunted Harry to Jack
As they slogged up to Arras with rifle and pack.

But he did for them both by his plan of attack.

Public Health England’s leaked documents apparently

Speekachu · 15/03/2020 21:58

@colouringinpro

And paramedics.
My DD has been in contact with a confirmed case. Rang 999 with false symptoms. They went in with no protection, not even considering it was CV.
I know people are scared but please, if you have to ring 999 tell them the truth - you are endangering other people if you don't.

BarbedBloom · 15/03/2020 21:58

Just to clarify that pandemic is a documentary not a film. It is about how they are dealing with flu and searching for a universal flu vaccine.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 15/03/2020 21:59

111 is still telling people it is unlikely they have it and to just stay home... obviously stay home is the key bit but why are they unlikely to have it? anyone anywhere could have caught it by now.

nellodee · 15/03/2020 22:01

@buttermilkwaffles, that was a great article. Did you follow this link, to show the effect of the timing of social distancing measures? I love interactive infographics.

Let’s hope they aren’t Doctors, Nurses or supermarket workers!

It’s grim reading

DonkeyKong2019 · 15/03/2020 22:19

@middleager My dad is a structural engineer and has in the past week landed a job for the NHS a d some sort of temp buildings for the virus. There are definitely things behind the scenes going on

colouringinpro · 15/03/2020 22:20

"speek" that is awful Sad

Jerseygaly · 15/03/2020 22:20

Really hope it's not a year.
That wouldn't make sense in terms of what they said about elderly.

Have to say everything so far has been a lie/misinformation
Various timescales for peak
-no treatment (some antiviral could help?)
The figures
That they will shut schools and ban gatherings.

All to make us think it's ok to continue as we are.

They are hanging out to dry
Gps/paramedics/all hospital staff
Teachers
Parents who could be ill
Everyone on public transport
Shop staff
Diabetic/high bp and asthma
Vulnerable children

Plus if you do isolate you will never know if that fever you had was that!!!?!?!

Many might not mind so much getting it and having 3w in hospital but it's the fact there will be no beds.

allthesharks · 15/03/2020 22:22

Germany has a very low death rate compared to the number of cases. Why do you think that is? Is their healthcare system far superior to other European countries? Or are they doing something different in their approach?

Also, I can't remember exactly when Italy went in to lock down - can anyone recall? And at that point, how many cases did they have?

If they shut Scottish schools
Most kids in England won't go in either.
There is no way they could force a fine

alwaysfiltered · 15/03/2020 22:25

I'm not 100% sure but I think that Germany attribute any deaths to people with underlying conditions to the preexisting illness not coronavirus

woodencoffeetable · 15/03/2020 22:25

Really hope it's not a year.
it's the race for a vaccine and other treatments. until they have been developed, authorised and rolled out to the public it's at least a year.
