Most homes are not care settings though, most will not have nurses there, only nursing homes will, not residential. And the nurse/ patient ratio in most nursing homes are small.

todayisnottuesday · 15/03/2020 21:11
  • NOT small even ie, there are not many qualified staff for every patient.

Few things:

  1. I don't think Bojo works weekends. I seem to remember him being strangely absent last weekend too.

  2. Can we can tweet Laura Kuenssberg asking her to raise the questions of stopping community testing (against WHO advice) and not asking vulnerable people to self isolate? I know the opinion of her on MN isn't great but she will definitely be there tomorrow and a lot of people follow her so it could be picked up by others.

  3. I've just seen all the posts discussing paracetamol. Just watched the end of John Campbells latest video and he seems to suggest paracetamol/ibuprofen/aspirin may make the effects of the virus worse and are contributing to the high death rates in Italy and Iran. If that's true it will be hugely important but he said he'll talk more about it tomorrow. Worth a watch if you haven't already.

Someone earlier asked about if their DH shop closed, what would happen.

There are guidelines on the gov site. If it’s in his contract there may be a ‘lay off’ or ‘short term working’ option, which would be some pay. The company can also agree a reduced wage, half wage etc.

My OH is really worried, his business involves travel, he employs over 100 people and will on Monday have little to no income coming in, he is looking at every which way to keep staff. The Gov are also offering emergency short term loans to businesses, which is limited to 1.5 million, so it depends how big your DHs company is and if they employ over 250 people.

One of the staff messaged to say they know the company will be struggling, he has just taken on a higher mortgage and a new baby on the way, what is happening? OH can’t say anything, he doesn’t know himself.

We haven’t got a mortgage but take money out quarterly which is due in a few weeks, Oh won’t pay himself before the staff. God knows what we do.

As to the dismissive response that scientists up to now have been too busy to publish the findings on which the scientific approach is being based but will do so over the next few days - well, the cynic in me says we'll get what we're given, edited and sanitised in favour of the government's approach.

We’re being heavily messaged on MN that it’s unreasonable to want data and numbers. A combination of “you’re waaaaaasting precious resources you uncaring unpatriotic woman, what kind of a Mum do you call yourself!” and “don’t you worry your pretty little head about it, leave all the serious thinking to your betters, your job is to just complacently do whatever you’re told!”

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 15/03/2020 21:19

Can anyone confirm if there is in fact a COBRA meeting tomorrow? Google search tells me nothing but have read lots of posts stating there is?

OldQueen1969 · 15/03/2020 21:22

@TheElementsOfMedical

Indeed. And it really brings out the militant in me.......

littledrummergirl · 15/03/2020 21:24

Ds1 had an email from the RVC. They are stopping face to face teaching from Tuesday. He looked sad and worried when he told me.
We are keeping dd home from today, she had a cough this morning. whooping cough is still doing the rounds and it had a whoop noise so pretty sure that's what it is.
Ds2 is going to college tomorrow and Wednesday morning as it's much quieter than school and his workshop spread out.
My dsis has down syndrome, she still lives at home and had pneumonia last year so is high risk. It's going to be hard not visiting for a while.

Watching pandemic on netflix. Not surprised it is trending

woodencoffeetable · 15/03/2020 21:28

is pandemic suitable for young teenagers? or is it too scary?
dc are off school from tomorrow. one of them is very interested in it all in a geeky kind of way, the other gets spooked more easily.

chomalungma · 15/03/2020 21:33

Should be watching 28 Days Later..

Which is happening in real life

Big Brother in Canada is still going on - and it seems they are unaware of what's happening

(Unless they have been told now about it)

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 21:34

Contagion feels pretty close.

BarbedBloom · 15/03/2020 21:35

Only one episode in and I am finding it scary. It was made last year. It is informative really rather than dramatic, but it is eerie how on the button it is with what has happened so far

CricketCrocket · 15/03/2020 21:39

I’ve not seen contagion. Do they self isolate/close schools in it?

AllTheProsecco · 15/03/2020 21:40

DSis and DM are messaging me saying I'm overreacting as taking the DCs out of childcare. DSis has asthma and DM is a carer for 3 of my grandparents, all whom have serious underlying health conditions.

We're all good to stay home apart from one day a week when I work and DM looks after them. Fingers crossed that gets cancelled as I can't WFH or not go.

What can I say to them? How do I get them to see sense? They are massively head in the sand.

Just don't take it as a source of information, folks! I've been coping with my boss, the Hollywood-graduate, and his supposed expertise all week. At this point, I'm basically thankful that he's grasped that romantic subplots and "bloke in a regular job" heroics are best left to others. I mean, I love the man, stellar boss that one and a bona fide expert in ... well ... not epidemiology - but given his physical shape I really don't see him being much use in an IRL action scene.

Pretty watchable flick, though - just don't mistake it for real life. (Though, in all fairness, everyone being forced to remote work is really going to work out in your favour when your colleagues start fantasising about strangling you for your "helpful" explanations). Grin

OhMargo · 15/03/2020 21:41

Look back at the Brexit approach. Then see what the current thinking is.

I think Johnson's Dad is in the confinement category. Wonder if it will apply to him?

But no matter what, this C19 is here now, and limiting group gatherings is very important. Forget about the soundings from Johnson et al, it is really now up to us to keep ourselves and our Mums and Dads etc. safe.

Worrying times. It has to be said.

Sunshinesky1981 · 15/03/2020 21:44

Anyone else watching the USA press conference live on SKy news? They are putting in linked state testing. With testing pods being set up in community buildings away from main hospitals that will have the ability to test u to 2000 people a day with the healthcare workers given all PPE equipment they need. Testing will focus on healthcare workers, both hospitals and people who work in care homes , then over 65's showing a temperature, then other groups. They are making testing a priority.

Feel like I am in a parallel fucking universe where I'm more comforted by USA press conference while our prime minister seems to have turned in to the Scarlet fucking pimpernel Angry

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 15/03/2020 21:45

Those Iran numbers are frightening 😟 Does Hancock not have access to this info?

Womenwotlunch · 15/03/2020 21:46

Kenya has banned people from countries where coronavirus is prevalent. This means people from Europe will not be able to go to Kenya.
African countries do not want the coronavirus to infect them and are now beginning to take steps to prevent them entering the countries or ordering them to undergo fourteen days self isolation.
Schools in Kenya will close in order to prevent the virus spreading

chomalungma · 15/03/2020 21:46

This - doesn't Boris Johnson realise that UK people will be watching this and asking what we are doing and where he is..

middleager · 15/03/2020 21:47

I've just seen the massive St Patrick's Day concert in the stadium in Cardiff headlined by The Stereophonics.

It was grossly irresponsible to go ahead.

middleager · 15/03/2020 21:48

(seen as in read, not attended).

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 21:51

Cricket lol. They most certainly self isolate until the vaccine is made. But it gets pretty hairy before it does.

hakunamatatawhatawonderfulday · 15/03/2020 21:51
