Isn’t the next Cobra meeting next week? Monday/Tuesday?

Prob mid afternoon. Like when most places hold their emergency meetings...Confused

Bessica1970 · 15/03/2020 20:07

Anyone currently worrying about having an income if their work closes. Is it worth contacting supermarkets etc who will need extra delivery drivers? Not ideal I know but it will be very busy for them soon!

Lynamic · 15/03/2020 20:07

I hope the army come and make people stop coughing

LarkDescending · 15/03/2020 20:09

COBRA is tomorrow.

Mr Hancock said ministers are yet to make a decision on whether to ban gatherings of over 500 people in the rest of the UK, after Scotland said it would bring in restrictions from Monday.

"We are absolutely ready to do that as necessary," he said, but he pointed towards a Cobra meeting being held on Monday when asked when the decision will be made.

Quentin Letts - 'Herefordshire pub lunch today. My mother, 85, joined us. At a nearby table was our friend Joan. She is 100. Ate like a caveman.'

I am sorry but that sounds reckless.

It's definitely worth contacting supermarkets if you are looking for work. They are struggling with staffing across the board at the moment.

UK leadership is economically focused.

Will Johnson's Dad have to isolate for four months? He must be in the killer cohort now.

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 20:15

Well he is 79 so yes.

Boris mum has some serious condition so she will have to.

Exclusive: Public Health England document leaked to Channel 4 News shows frontline NHS health workers won’t be tested for #COVIDー19 even if they have symptoms.

Germany have a much better healthcare system and over 5 times as many CCU beds per 100.000 people as we do.

just a few weeks ago, a majority over here didn't see that a priority.

ofwarren · 15/03/2020 20:16

The leaked document also reveals that Public Health England expect:

  1. Up to 80% of the UK population to be infected with COVID-19 in the next 12 month
  1. Meaning up to to 7.9 million people may require hospitalisation
Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 20:18

I can see this killing the NHS and making us more like the USA with private insurance but the poor losing out.

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 20:19

1 - 2 million will die.

ofwarren · 15/03/2020 20:19

What's the expected deaths with that? Over a million surely,?

Loppy10 · 15/03/2020 20:20

Luxembourg has followed its neighbours France and Belgium in closing bars and restaurants to try to stem the spread of the coronavirus epidemic.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said that, from midnight, bars and restaurants would be closed but grocery shops, pharmacies and other essential businesses could remain open.

He called on citizens to limit their movements to travelling to work, food shopping, medical appointments and visits to help the elderly.

The over-65s - who are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 - were urged to stay at home.

Please stop with scaremongering and unsubstantiated stats/ claims. It helps no one.

OhMargo · 15/03/2020 20:21

Cummings. Nuff said about UK tactics.

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 20:21

'If the mortality rate turns out to be the 1% many experts are using as their working assumption then that would mean 531,100 deaths. But if Whitty’s insistence that the rate will be closer to 0.6% proves accurate, then that would involve 318,660 people dying.'

Dramalamaindeed · 15/03/2020 20:23

A nursing home near me has 6 confirmed cases out of 70 residents. So sad.

Clearly it is on a case by case basis as despite being registered disabled, housebound and socially isolated EDF have told me they cannot help or send me with preloaded card and key. "How a society treats its most vulnerable is always the measure of its humanity

@brokenoptimist_
I rent a place that has electric and gas key meters for 'topping up' / paying for utilities.
@BritishGasHelp

@SP**_EnergyPeople

@eonenergyuk

Are measure in place that these meters can be overridden and switch to 'pay as you use' accounts, if people are isolated / ill, and run out?

Hi, thanks, Gary. As someone who is classed as disabled and considered more vulnerable in relation to being out and about during this pandemic, are you able to reassure me that these key meters can be overridden should that become necessary? Thanks.

It's a worry for sure. A lot of more vulnerable people will have these meters too, for various reasons, I should imagine. I hope there is a way to get round this. What if shops have to close and there's nowhere to top your 'keys' up locally?

Hopefully they are working on it.. I see you've copied British Gas in so no excuse for them not having thought about... Be good if a news outlet picked it up and explored it..
