On testing every case how does it help us now?

If I think I’ve got it I ask for a test or I do what we do now which is self isolate for 7 days. By the end of that it’ll be severe or ok.

Hospital and tested if severe.

How do we fight it better by knowing in two days? We still have to self isolate.

Don’t all yell at me I may be missing something.

Helenj1977 · 15/03/2020 15:58

#wheresboris What a twat! I'm a Boris supporter (was). This is a joke.

School is done for us. Social distancing starts now. I'm ashamed to be British.

Fairineouf · 15/03/2020 15:58

2533 tests since yesterday's update. 232 new positives. 9.16% tests positive. 90.84% tests negative.

Stats here again

OldQueen1969 · 15/03/2020 15:58

Just seen the answer to my question cross posted while I was typing it - so thanks to those on the ball.

Our only barometer now is at the worst end of the scale. Which doesn't really help us stay positive and may encourage panic because of the unknowns.

Hmm.

That is all.

Alice agree again.

Being shocked every day as they do the figures is nothing to what it will feel like at 400k and the lead up to it.

jimmyhill · 15/03/2020 16:00

@Honkaismycat

It was fake news. To be clearer, it was your fake news because you shared it without thinking to check its source or accuracy

Be more responsible

Ed Conway - '1,372 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in UK, according to DHSCgovuk’s update today.
On the basis of this, UK diagnosed cases now running slightly below the trajectories in Italy, Spain, France etc.
But BIG questions act comparability given UK not testing v widely…'

Mittens030869 · 15/03/2020 16:01

I'm one of those who has been told that I'm not ill enough to be taken to hospital. I'm literally only able to breathe because I've been coughing and puking constantly but it's getting harder to get the mucus out despite using lots of albas oil and otrivine and Benylin mucus cough max. I just keep getting blocked again so I can't breathe and I'm getting exhausted now. I'm 50 with underlying health issues.

I will need to get to hospital, the only question is when will they agree?

Homkaismycat · 15/03/2020 16:02

@jimmyhill I did not made it up ..I was literally shocked hence I shared completely gobsmacked.
Admin pls delete the post.

As for not knowing where it is line.

We do know where it is it’s coming in to every hospital in the U.K. or will soon.

magicrainbowbeans · 15/03/2020 16:03

I haven’t seen the discussion on this, so apologies if this has been touched on before.
Does anyone know, or has this even been planned in any way, for the countries where schools, shops and offices have been closed: would there be a staggered return to work/school or would everyone start at the same time? In my head, I wonder if a staged re-introduction of population back into full interaction with each other might start a second wave of infections. Some sort of tiered starting office hours and school hours to reduce the number of people on public transport and closed spaces.

Alice02132354 · 15/03/2020 16:04

@MarshaBradyo
I despair. I really do. Feels like half the people on here would better if they didn't receive any news at all. It's doing absolutely no good to them or the situation.
400k dead is a realistic outcome without an unlikely vaccine. Shutting down the entire planet is unfeasible

See how red this map is? It used to just be a dot above Wuhan. It now covers the entire globe!

You are not going to be able to hide from this.

Banana0pancakes · 15/03/2020 16:04

Yeah that's the way you have to try and think about it. If 35 have sadly died altogether today they were probably infected 2-3 weeks ago. At 3.7 cfr that suggests we probably had 1000 cases 2-3 weeks ago.
1000 cases would double every 2-3 days so potentially by now we could have 30,000 cases.
In 3 weeks or so if 3.7% of those also pass away then we'll be looking at roughly 1100 deaths by mid april and 3000 in icu and the cases would be, unbelievably, at around 1 million.
I really hope boris pulls his finger out on Tuesday!

blossombabies · 15/03/2020 16:04

todays numbers are not as high as i expected them to be! which is a good sign hopefully

nellodee · 15/03/2020 16:04

I've just plotted the deaths. I usually just plot the cases.
Deaths are going up even faster than cases Sad
We are in the early stages, so we should be cautious with extrapolating, but it looks like they are multiplying by 10 every 8 days. That's 3500 by the end of the month. A month later... surely impossible figures... it has to slow before then.

Oh man. This is going to peak much faster than they are telling us. Whatever we are going to do, we need to do it now.

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:04

Magic don’t be. Italy, Spain and French are in the same place as us.

confusedandtired99 · 15/03/2020 16:05

@Mittens030869 I’m so sorry to hear that :( I wish we could help :(

OldQueen1969 · 15/03/2020 16:05

Consistent testing across all levels of the virus is needed to inform treatment, outcomes and planning as it continues to take hold.

If those in the middle who aren't being tested aren't monitored in some way, then a mutation could be missed, or things relating to management of co-morbidity or any number of things. The numbers aren't just about how many people have got it - wider testing is what will show what the virus is doing, and to whom.

Better and more effective treatments will be taking longer to develop too.

fedup21 · 15/03/2020 16:06

todays numbers are not as high as i expected them to be! which is a good sign hopefully

Yes, of course it is Hmm.

You are aware that the government are no longer allowing community testing, so the number of tests carried out have dropped dramatically?

Yesterday’s stats reported 4900 tests, today’s reported 2500.

nellodee · 15/03/2020 16:07

blossombabies, the numbers from today are pretty much in line with what you would predict. Here's the latest exponential graph, this time with cases and deaths, both UK.

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:07

Alice I know. Everyone on here has been talking about exponential growth.

The daily figures will leap every day so that’s it. No shocks.

Alice02132354 · 15/03/2020 16:08

lol, are we going to test 65 million people on a daily basis?
