@Mittens030869 Can you just go to a and e? I know you shouldn't but what else can you do??

Is there a corona pod at your a and e? There is at ours, not sure what you do but it's worth a try xx

Sunshinesky1981 · 15/03/2020 16:09

I can't understand the argument for not having widespread testing and having the most up to date information as possible, especially if you are basing decisions on social distancing etc on when it gets to peak points. If you are going by death rates/hospital cases then you would be basing that on estimating that this % = an overall percentage. The death rates or critical care rates seem to be fluctuating. Also I would imagine a lot of the 'it's just flu' or 'the chance of me getting it is really low as there are hardly any cases in my area ' would be taking this more seriously if the results were accurate. After all 1200 cases confirmed in the uk says the risk is low. What experts think is the true figures ie 10,000 + would make people realise just how bad this is. Add on top of that slot of employers are saying they are not going to let people work from home unless there is a confirmed case, which will be difficult if they are not testing

@Alice02132354 ,"The chewing gum is in the hair, the condom has split" 😂

Helenj1977 · 15/03/2020 16:09

Obviously they realised that testing more people led to higher numbers. They tested less and got less.

Absolute morons. Maybe Corbyn would have been better???

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:09

I laughed too

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:10

Argh too slow at the gum / condom part

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:10

People need to stop obsessing on the test numbers.

justchecking1 · 15/03/2020 16:12

Without testing, how will we know when we've reached the peak and it's safe to start going back to normal life?

China only knew this by continuing to test

Alice02132354 · 15/03/2020 16:13

There is no normal life after this. You must accept.
lol, when the condom splits you don't try to... nevermind

Sunny360 · 15/03/2020 16:14

Is there a way to find out the ages of those who have died? Or if they did have underlying health conditions? Are they publishing that information now?

blossombabies · 15/03/2020 16:14

@fedup21 after yesterdays jump i was expecting 500+ cases today. nothing has changed in terms of testing from yesterday to today so in comparison i genuinely was terrified of todays stats coming out.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 15/03/2020 16:15

I guess we work backwards from how many deaths there are? 😕

66.5mil and we're aiming for 60% min for herd immunity iirc?

So that's 39,900,000 cases, at a 1% death rate that would be 399,000

So we can return to normal after 399,000 deaths. Or in other words, we'll be on the downward slope once deaths reach 200,000...

fedup21 · 15/03/2020 16:15

nothing has changed in terms of testing from yesterday to today

What do you mean nothing has changed?

Apart from conducting half the number of tests?

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:16

When deaths go down then we know we are over the peak.

mrshoho · 15/03/2020 16:16

@Mittens030869 please if you are struggling and a vulnerable person ring 999 or get someone to get you to a&e. You don't even need to mention coronavirus.

OldQueen1969 · 15/03/2020 16:16

The point about the numbers seeming lower might also cause some people to rebel against measures designed to slow the spread. Actual, realistic numbers make people take notice. Already people are saying oh, not bad really on seeing today's increase and may relax.

It is obviously not realistic to test everyone in the country - but those with relevant symptoms and contact history should be priority, not just those being hospitalised by which time it may be too serious for the optimum outcome for those patients depending on underlying issues etc. Someone else said that a reluctance to bring symptoms to the NHS may have caused some of those dead to wait too long. Uncertainty and fear and powerlessness could be doing as much damage as the virus itself.

Oakmaiden · 15/03/2020 16:16

You are aware that the government are no longer allowing community testing, so the number of tests carried out have dropped dramatically?

Yesterday’s stats reported 4900 tests, today’s reported 2500.

Although there were still more tests today than for any other day except for 5th, 13th and 14th of March.

But the highest "hit rate" (% of daily tests positive) than of any other day so far.

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:17

If it is CV Mittens don’t go to A&E

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:17

OldQueen the number of deaths jumping every day will ensure people don’t relax.

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 16:17

Remember many of the dead and seriously ill are relying on home care or care home staff to get them to the hospital.

MacronsPensWiper · 15/03/2020 16:19

mittens

Covid isn't mucus producing.

mrshoho · 15/03/2020 16:19

sorry @MarshaBradyo but you are wrong. This person says they are struggling to breath and in a vulnerable group. They require emergency assistance and can't wait.

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 16:19

If it’s CV?

Helenj1977 · 15/03/2020 16:20

@MarshaBradyo What else can she do? There should be a pod or advice before she gets in there. It's bloody scary that you can't get help when you need it 😢

Quartz2208 · 15/03/2020 16:20

www.thesun.co.uk/news/11176745/nick-matthews-uk-coronavirus-cases-britain/

This reports on the youngest person to die so far at 59. The Mail reports it as in his 50s so one assumes the others are all older
