In Italy the ICU hell is concentrated in Lombardy - possible in the UK we have fewer patients per hospital but less hospitals with relatively few patients like Parts of Italy still do.

alice i am the mother of a small child who is amassing and perfect, and my world, and who will having noone and nothing if anything happens to me. We were already socially isolated which is why I'm a natural prepper. I know not everyone gets ill or that bad, but the risk to her if I happen to get it and badly, to me isn't worth it.

Sending her to school last week was one thing. But in the coming week, I mean everyone has deliberately gone out and shared space with each other knowing the risk. I realise there are reasons for some to do it, I blame the complete lack of leadership and planning of our government for the situation we will now be in.

We got it after others, we had adequate information to make some tough decisions reasonably early on. They've done the opposite. And, I do feel the level of stupidity I'm seeing from the population this weekend makes me cringe.

The UK cases may have a better geographical spread which helps not overwhelm the local hospitals but we are doing next to nothing to prevent its' spread so it the end result could be it spirals out of control everywhere and all hospitals are overwhelmed.

He then said he is Romainian and drinks 70 percent vodka to keep safe!

In fairness I am very susceptible to tonsillitis. When ever I feel it coming on I swig vodka neat from the freezer.

Oakmaiden · 15/03/2020 15:24

@Homkaismycat which country is that? It is useful to know how it compares to the age demographic of the country as a whole...

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 15:25

anna holligan - 'Dutch Ministry of Justice press conference scheduled 16gmt. Speculation schools will be closed: Indication cafes and bars too. PM will address the nation tomorrow eve.'

woodpigeons · 15/03/2020 15:26

@oakmaiden we are both ‘elderly’ and are self isolating, only going out if absolutely necessary and not wearing masks.
We bought 2 to use if one of us gets the virus and has to be cared for by the other one.

I’m pretty sure I just seen 1140 confirmed cases in the uk....it flashed up but none of the presenters talked about it and then it went to adverts. The news is back on but no ones mentioned it???

Did anyone else see it on sky news?

Homkaismycat · 15/03/2020 15:28

@oakmaiden china

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 15/03/2020 15:28

@lotuscup563 - those are yesterday's numbers.

Homkaismycat · 15/03/2020 15:28

1826 cases in U.K.

Oakmaiden · 15/03/2020 15:29

@woodpigeons I wasn't criticising! I just thought the information might be helpful to some.

If you follow the link there is information about the correct way to put on and take off a mask.

Carlislemumof4 · 15/03/2020 15:29

@Namethecat

I also love in Cumbria (West). We are social distancing , but will do things like take a flask out and have in the car. Drove to Keswick yesterday , with idea to park near the lake. Keswick was rammed with people , market was on , lots of people coming out of the shops. Crazy.

Have been to Keswick when the market's on, can imagine what that was like! One of my favourite places, businesses are going to be so hard hit there over this spring/summer aren't they.

A drive to picnic in the car at a beauty spot is a good idea, wondered about driving DCs out to the coast at the start of the Easter hols. To stay in the car but see the sea, they love going out there. I worry about them not getting out of the city at all for weeks/months, we normally visit my parents in the lakes regularly but need to socially distance (though I'll see they're alright for shopping and be in constant touch online/by phone). Hard for everyone.

My street here in Carlisle is so quiet today, normally busy with pedestrians and traffic even on a Sunday. Been pottering round in my little front garden and it's just been me out mainly. A good thing people are taking the advice but eerie as well. Haven't been in to the city centre so don't know how busy that is. Just walking school run and driving to supermarket and vet this week. Staying home otherwise.

Homkaismycat · 15/03/2020 15:29

At lest that’s what is says on FB..

Lotuscup563 · 15/03/2020 15:30

That’s makes sense, must of flashed up by accident as I didn’t remember yesterday’s figures but thought it was strange the presenter wasn’t talking about it Blush

Sunshinesky1981 · 15/03/2020 15:30

@Lotuscup563 Think that was the current numbers. So yesterdays England numbers + today's numbers from Scotland ,irelandand Wales perhaps? Sure someone will be able to confirm

SabineSchmetterling · 15/03/2020 15:31

If it really is 1800+ cases today then that’s a shocking increase.

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 15:31

I think this crisis will trigger the end of neoliberal open borders capitalism
Conservative statism and nationalism will be the new norm
Closed borders+statism

woodpigeons · 15/03/2020 15:31

@SonicRevolution glad I could help a little bit.
You HCPs are amazing. Thank you so very, very much.

namechangemania · 15/03/2020 15:31

If it’s 1800 that is very alarming indeed and I would imagine they are possibly waiting til shops have closed to release officially
