Regarding masks - WHO have issued advice:

If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with suspected 2019-nCoV infection.
Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.
Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.

@userxx thank you

defthand · 15/03/2020 14:55

Probably had a Sunday lie in. 😏

Lotuscup563 · 15/03/2020 14:56

Wonder why there is such a delay...they are either very low and people will know it’s because of the new testing restrictions or they are very high and everyone panics....so they are probably taking their time trying to work out the median

ofwarren · 15/03/2020 14:58

#Austria has banned all events with more than five people. From Tuesday, they’ll close restaurants, playgrounds and all sports events.

its2019ffs · 15/03/2020 14:58

I think they may delay it until 4 o'clock so the shops are closed and no one can do more panic buying. Just a theory?

Sunshinesky1981 · 15/03/2020 14:59

Sorry, can someone post the link for Scotlands figures or have they not been released yet?

Sunshinesky1981 · 15/03/2020 15:00

@its2019ffs that makes sense, reading through threads today,, it's already getting pretty bad out there Sad

Feelingsolost1 · 15/03/2020 15:00

Coronavirus (COVID-19) was first identified in December 2019.

The first case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Scotland was confirmed in March 2020.

Scottish test numbers
A total of 4,240 Scottish tests have concluded. Of these:

4,087 tests were confirmed negative
153 tests were positive
Sadly, one patient in Scotland who tested positive for Coronavirus has died.

a relative who lives in austria texted me: they are a 9 people, 3 generation household... who do they send to live in a tent in the garden Confused

Lotuscup563 · 15/03/2020 15:02

Good point, they must be bad then!

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 15:02

On the BBC this morning they had an expert tell people it's an exergreation.

DonkeyKong2019 · 15/03/2020 15:02

I think it's to keep people declscending on the shops. For those local to BCP I live near Redlands retail park and it's been chokka to get in and out today

Oakmaiden · 15/03/2020 15:05

Nah. For my part I don't reckon it is because of the numbers. More likely to just be incompetence.

Jenasaurus · 15/03/2020 15:05

I did a normal online shop today. Not panic buying but o don’t drive so get it delivered. Me and my 24year old DD openend then door time being in the shopping. The man looked concerned and said she (pointing at my DD ) needs to take this in herself if she is self isolating. I explained we were ok and it’s just a normal shop. He then said he is Romainian and drinks 70 percent vodka to keep safe!

Jenasaurus · 15/03/2020 15:06

Sorry my thumbs miss typed and made a mess of that post

Ciwirocks · 15/03/2020 15:07

At least call the A&E department or leave the child in the car so that they can arrange somewhere out of the way for him to wait. We all need to take responsibility and appreciate that things won’t run as well as they used to.

magicrainbowbeans · 15/03/2020 15:08

OK so I was not t considering keeping DD6 at home so far but, I can see from FB that just about every member of my community has descended on local supermarkets together this weekend. Huge queues, squashed together, all touching things. If one of them has CV, or a shop employee - and the likelihood is someone does - then all these people have just made sure they all have it. I've taken steps to prep and self isolate, and so am extremely reluctant to get CV because of others doing the opposite. I am so Angry. These people are like sheep, not looking out for all the signs of what was going to happen from January, and blithely following BJ and each other. I'm Angry at the government and fellow citizens. And really don't know what I'm going to do tomorrow.

Sunshinesky1981 · 15/03/2020 15:09

@Feelingsolost1 Thank you

Alice02132354 · 15/03/2020 15:11

@magicrainbowbeans
are you old or have health issues?

I mean, it's rife out there. 2 weeks from now we will be worse than Italy cause everyone's panicking. At least they werent crowding into supermarkets back then. People are stupid.

Albatross123 · 15/03/2020 15:13

I am going to take the advice of Dr William Hanage, a professor of the evolution and epidemiology of infectious disease at Harvard, quoted in the Guardian:

"Don’t panic, but do prepare. If your government won’t help you, do it yourself.

Everyone has their own set of circumstances and I doubt anyone will come out of this unscathed in some way, emotionally or economically, but we need to face up to our responsibilities, not be selfish, and find our own way to deal with the problems it will cause. Unfortunately I don't think we can rely on the Government to solve all our problems. I am in a vulnerable group so will minimise my contact with others as far as possible.

@woodpigeons

Thank you. I just ordered some goggles as I am frontline NHS and we already are short of PPE. I shouldn't have to supply my own, but as I am frontline, I need to take care of myself.
