Self Isolating? Share your symptoms & boredom!

Aegna · 15/03/2020 07:30

Morning! My kids and I have developed coughs (no fever) over the weekend, my husband also took himself off to bed yesterday afternoon with headache and aches and hasn't been seen since! So it's on the self isolation train for us...

Is there anyone else self isolating this week, would you mind sharing your symptoms? Who knows if we have it as can't get tested (and haven't been in contact with anyone that we know of!) but I feel we fit the criteria of a new persistent cough (and before anyone says you have to have a fever like I've seen on other threads it clearly says OR in the guidelinesSmile) xx

Am currently trying to get through to 111 to see if I should self isolate or not. But don't seem to be able to get through

SchrodingersUnicorn · 15/03/2020 18:28

I've got a temperature and ache all over. Headache, very slight sore throat and nausea. It's not a cold as I'm not snotty at all. I'm also feeling slightly short of breath and my chest hurts when I breathe, but no cough.
I'm also asthmatic and immunocompromised so I'm not sure whether I should under react because being short of breath with a cold isn't abnormal for me, or overreact because I'm high risk. What do you think?

MajesticWhine · 15/03/2020 18:32

Greendayz - what are your symptoms?
Have you gone to the 111 website?
111.nhs.uk/covid-19

bathsh3ba · 15/03/2020 18:56

SchrodingersUnicorn, I think in your situation I would try to speak to 111.

tangledyarn · 15/03/2020 19:06

Schrodinger..I'm in exactly the same boat. It's hard to know what to do for the best. I think I'm fine, but wondering how long it's ok for your chest to hurt for, but equally dont want to use resources I dont need!

SheldonSaysSo1 · 15/03/2020 19:11

I have had a cough all day and my legs feel achey. My chest feels tight but I am asthmatic so its hard to tell. I also seem breathless if I walk a few steps.

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 19:38

@magestic I have a slight fever (37.6) which is below the 37.8 that's quoted somewhere or other. The NHS 111 website is most unclear on the definition of a fever. I have also been in contact with someone who's been diagnosed with covid 19.
Anyway, after an hour or so waiting I eventually got though to someone on 111 who says I should self isolate for a week. Just about to text my line manager at work... :(

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 19:41

NHS 111 when you do get though to them ask various questions to see if you're high risk (first one they ask is whether you are over 65 which I presume takes you off to a higher priority phone line) They also ask questions ruling out other possible causes. But mainly I think they want to speak to you if you're feeling very poorly and might need care/hospital.

SpeckledFrogsLog · 15/03/2020 19:51

I came down with a sore throat on Wednesday then the cough started on Friday. Obviously given the advice on Thursday decided to self isolate. Felt dreadful on Friday-aching all over, headache, earache, coughing was exhausting. Felt much brighter yesterday although still coughing but feel rough and achey again today. Throughout all of it I’ve not had a raised temp so have no idea if I’ve got it or not! I have been regularly taking paracetamol so that could be keeping any fever down I suppose.

Really don’t know what to do about sending the kids to school tomorrow. Neither are showing any symptoms and can’t find any clear guidance online. Such mixed opinions! I might call the school first thing and see what they want me to do.

MajesticWhine · 15/03/2020 19:51

I'm glad you got through and got a clear answer @Greendayz. Hope you feel better soon.

Bacardi101 · 15/03/2020 19:57

Oh god I’m so fed up 😢 living in a hostel with both my DD’s and have come down quite unwell and called 111 who has advised to self isolate. We only have access to one room with a dining table and the two beds and the bathroom it’s very small and I’m already a bit tearful of the thought of being trapped and I feel so unwell I don’t know how I’m going to look after my DD’s if things get worse 😭

LittleLittleLittle · 15/03/2020 20:07

@HavelockVetinari may I remind you it is elbow bump you don't want to spread anything.

@SpeckledFrogsLog they go to school unless ill too.

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 20:09

Oh @bacardi That sounds so difficult Sad I guess you'll have to all stay in together. Can anyone bring you food? Are the hostel staff aware and able to help? I've also seen various committees groups being set up to support people who are self isolating with noone to help them out. Maybe something near you?

I'm very lucky that we have a house with enough room for DH to move to a different bedroom (until teenage DSDs return from uni, which hopefully won't be this week) and he has now got over being grumpy about that and is being helpful bringing me things.

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 20:11

That was supposed to say community groups, not committee groups

Soubriquet · 15/03/2020 20:15

Yep

I’m on day two.

Bored as fuck....

I had a sudden cough just appear one day that’s getting worse and worse.

Temp keeps shooting up and then dropping down. Chest feels a bit heavy at times but mostly I’m ok. Just bored

Liveinside · 15/03/2020 20:24

I’m on day 7.

Sunday - sore throat
Monday - exhaustion and Generally just feeling shit.
Tuesday - same but mild upset stomach and no sore throat
Wednesday - same but mild temp and Mild dry cough
Thursday - same but with very tight chest and some chest pains, mildly short of breath
Friday - same but no temp
Saturday - same
Sunday/ Today - same but temp has come back

I think temp may have been intermittent all week. Gone between 37.5-38.1 so not massively high

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 20:25

So I'm now in a room I need to stay in for a week. It's a very strange feeling. I can and will work from home tomorrow, so I guess that will bring a degree of normality. Though I'm used to being in the office. Any other tips for passing the time?

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 20:27

@liveinside NHS 111 told me I could stop isolating after a week of the fever was gone (even if I had a cough) But they were defining anything over 37.5 as a fever, so guess you're not free yet?

Gwenhwyfar · 15/03/2020 20:57

I can't find a thermometer ANYWHERE available before April. Any ideas?

Jowak1 · 15/03/2020 21:00

I took my son 12 to the doctors this morning thinking he had tonsillitis only to be told by the doc he didn't think it was tonsillitis but Covid 19 as he has all the symptoms! My daughter has started with a cough but isn't ill like my son is so we're self isolating for 7 days x

FurrySlipperBoots · 15/03/2020 21:00

I have a cough. It started with a tickle on Wednesday, now it's a proper cough. I had a bit of a fever coming and going but that seems to have stopped now. nothing major anyway. Still, I reckon I'm stuck at home til it's cleared.

Liveinside · 15/03/2020 21:05

@Greendayz it’s classed as over 37.8 - will wait for it to go and then be free!

Liveinside · 15/03/2020 21:05

@Jowak1 not to be rude but did you not consider that and think you shouldn’t be going to doctor?

Jowak1 · 15/03/2020 21:11

Hi I rang 111 and told them my sons symptoms and even they said it sounded like tonsillitis rather than anything else so made the appointment for me.

Liveinside · 15/03/2020 21:14

Fair enough. What were his symptoms and why did doctor think Corona?
