Self Isolating? Share your symptoms & boredom!

Morning! My kids and I have developed coughs (no fever) over the weekend, my husband also took himself off to bed yesterday afternoon with headache and aches and hasn't been seen since! So it's on the self isolation train for us...

Is there anyone else self isolating this week, would you mind sharing your symptoms? Who knows if we have it as can't get tested (and haven't been in contact with anyone that we know of!) but I feel we fit the criteria of a new persistent cough (and before anyone says you have to have a fever like I've seen on other threads it clearly says OR in the guidelinesSmile) xx

My DD has had a high temp since Thursday night. She’s a bit under the weather but not other clear symptoms. Rest of us are fine - So far. It’s probably not Covid19 but, yeah, the guidelines are pretty clear. I already have the guilt about taking time off work but my DPs provide childcare at the start of the week and I’m sure the work guilt is nothing to what I would feel if they got I’ll!

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 07:41

I'm trying to decide whether to or not. I had a slight temperature (37.6) yesterday and a sore throat. Temperature now gone, but still have the sore throat. It's really tricky as I'm technically not fitting the criteria (fever of 37.8+) but have been near someone who definitely has it. Teenage kids at home who expect to go to work/college tomorrow and DH who's decided if I have it he'll have caught it too, but I'm worried he'll infect the kids if he shares my room.

Aegna · 15/03/2020 07:49

@Greendayz mine started off with a low level sore throat on Thursday if that helps now turned into cough.
Know the feeling @Didyeaye I would feel awful if I spread it round, better to be safe than sorry isn't it. It's just really frustrating that we can't get tested because could self isolate then go back into the world then actually catch it!🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm not sure if I need to either. I developed a head cold Thurs, with a sore throat. No cough or fever/temp. Was told I could go to work Friday (work in a school). Since yest I've developed a cough, but am asthmatic and quite 'chesty' normally. Still no fever or temp, and sore throat gone. I'm not really sure what to do, I don't want to go in and spread anything, got a few immunosuppressed kids and adults, yet if it was a normal situation I wouldn't even think about and up my inhalers.

Knocksomesense · 15/03/2020 07:50

We have a sniffle. Headache, cough and slightly runny nose. It's very likely not cv but I don't care. No one wants to catch a cold at the moment

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 08:00

It's really a tricky decision isn't it? Like you say, how do you know if a cough is an infectious cough or an asthmatic one? They put criteria up, but some websites say a fever is 37.8 and others just say if you feel hot to touch. I wish they were still testing. Our work guidance assumes they still are and talks about what to do whilst "suspected" and "confirmed" but I won't ever be tested it would appear.

IamHyouweegobshite · 15/03/2020 08:08

@Greendayz Yes it is, I honestly don't know what to do, I would hate to go to school and pass anything on. But I also know how much pressure they're under, 4 ppl off Friday so assume they're off for the week.
I also don't want to be off for a whole week, feeling fine apart from asthma, which is managed, go back and get coronavirus and have yet more time off.
Def no temp, or feeling hot to touch.

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 08:10

I might try calling NHS 111 later and see if they give me any advice. Did anyone know what they're like to get through to currently?

LittleSwede · 15/03/2020 08:11

I started with a dry cough and aches on Thursday morning. No temperature but been feeling shivery and grotty with it. No other cold symptoms at all. Self isolation until next Thursday at least.

Thing is DD has been coughing for possiblity 4 or 2 weeks. She got better after two weeks then started again two weeks ago. So it could have been a different virus as first cough was caused by tonsillitis just before February half term. When seeing the GP last Wednesday it was described as a dry cough (and we were asked if we were absolutely sure we hadn't been in contact with someone with CV). We've tried antibiotics with no effect and she's now on an inhaler. She's still coughing! School says she can come in tomorrow as it's not a new cough but I'm not convinced she should.

Should we be self isolating for sore throat only?

IamHyouweegobshite · 15/03/2020 08:26

The sore throat came on quickly Thurs, but went by yest, replaced with a cough, so maybe this is a different virus? Or is a sore throat part of the symptoms?

ClashCityRocker · 15/03/2020 08:35

I started on Wednesday, at work.

Woke up feeling slightly iffy, but I've been feeling run down/tired for the past few days and put it down to that.

By 10am, temp was up, coughing, getting out of breath easily and generally achy. Obviously I went straight home - work said not to come back til Monday.

Then the self isolation thing came in so due back next Wednesday.

I'm feeling a little better now though, but frustrated with not being able to leave the house. We don't really have a garden either.

Should be able to work from home Monday and Tuesday. We may well be in the situation where we have to work from home longer term (awaiting an update), and whilst I agree with it being sensible and will of course comply, I'm dreading it.

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 08:37

@Bernadette. No I don't think so. A sore throat is too often a symptom of colds and flu as well. They say a new dry cough or a temperature only.

Aegna · 15/03/2020 10:53

I did read somewhere that a sore throat can sometimes be part of the symptoms, but this is the problem it's so vague and varies from person to personBlush

ClashCityRocker · 15/03/2020 10:58

From memory I believe a sore throat was present in 8-10% of cases...

But so much is still unknown about this virus and how it presents.

And I suppose logically if your body is also run down from fighting another infection (which may have caused a sore throat) it may leave you more vulnerable to coronovirus. (This may be bullshit though - I'm not a scientist).

MrsJamin · 15/03/2020 11:01

If one of your family is self-isolating with symptoms, what happens to the rest of you? Should you also stay at home? This is really ambiguous.

HoneyBee03 · 15/03/2020 11:36

I think the current advice is that the entire household doesn't need to isolate if one person is, but I'm sure that will change soon. At about 3am this morning I was contemplating having to stay home for a week with my toddler who was up all night coughing, but it's completely stopped now. Seems to only be coughing at night so I guess that means we can carry on as normal?

CarolineIngalls · 15/03/2020 11:47

I started a new thread and missed this one. Sore throat, cough and tight chest biggest symptoms. Very low fever but not noticeable.

I am on Day 10. DC age 13 the same, on day 5. Rest of the house okay so far.

CarolineIngalls · 15/03/2020 11:51

Mine started as a bad sore throat. I am 90% sure I have it because my chest is so tight, leg aches, and it just won't shift after 10 days.

MajesticWhine · 15/03/2020 11:57

I have a slightly high temperature. That's all, nothing else. I fully intend to self isolate as per guidelines. It could easily not be covid. I feel a bit daft to be honest but it is what it is.

MajesticWhine · 15/03/2020 11:59

What's everyone doing to entertain themselves?

ClashCityRocker · 15/03/2020 12:01

I've done some studying, but have kind of reached the point I can't do anymore.

I've been self isolating since Wednesday, so am on day 5. The house is sparkling.

I have some work I can do from home tomorrow and Tuesday, but it's fairly mind numbing.

I may start on the vodka soon.

KarenTookTheKids · 15/03/2020 12:28

So good to see so many of you taking this seriously and following the guidelines. I hope you all feel better very soon Flowers

Cathster · 15/03/2020 12:36

We are in this quandary right now.

DD1 came back from nursery on Friday with runny nose, nothing new there. She's constantly catching colds from nursery!

Occasional cough yesterday but last night and this morning the cough has been constant. Still got the runny nose and she gets the same cough every time she catches a cold but by the guidelines she should now be self isolating.

We kind of figured that all of us have to due to the fact we are in such close proximity, even though she is the only one with a cough (no temp). So we've barricaded ourselves in for todayGrin

It's so frustrating that we can't even get tested, as far as we are aware we haven't been in contact with anyone that has it but who knows!!

We're also due to complete on our house purchase on Friday Sad technically that's 7 days since her symptoms started so who knows!

Tbh dreading the thought of a whole week in close quarters with DH, a four year old and a two year old but I'd rather that than risk passing anything on!
