Awful.

Can't remember hearing anyone even rumours of anyone under 25 dying even in China

Exochord · 14/03/2020 21:32

@ magicrainbowbeans which FB feed is that?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 14/03/2020 21:33

And it all comes back to:

if we are not testing until someone is critical and therefore in hospital, how do we understand the spread?

Answer is we don't, and that is absolutely rubbish.

Wishing everyone who is worried, which includes me with immunosuppressd DH and DD1 in France, all the very best and safety.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 14/03/2020 21:34

@cjt110

I have sore ears inside! I also have a watery left eye! 😳. Not sure that’s connected though.

DrBlackbird · 14/03/2020 21:37

Pickleme Please don't worry if you're using a corticosteroid inhaler for say asthma. The paper was in relation to a study on the initial responses in China in Dec/Jan analysing treatment of CV-19.

Using large doses of corticosteroid for a respiratory virus was used for SARS and initially the dr's were also using it as treatment for CV-19. Latterly, for CV19 they found a correlation (obviously they can't say for sure it was causation) between higher mordity and the coriticosteriod treatment. This was for patients in ICU.

So when Oldqueen said her neighbour had active sx's that could be CV but was sent home with corticosteroids as part of the tx regime, it seemed worrying.

So pissed off with my DH, just done my usual online shopping order and I've ordered a few extras and he's moaning about the cost. We have 4 cats so I've ordered a few more boxes for them and some tins of soup and tinned meat and fish for sandwiches. The thing is he flatly refuses to cook and wont even let me teach him a few basic meals so if I get ill he will need easy to prepare food. I pay for the food and he expects there to always be meals and stuff to eat so he can just fuck off.

Am I the only one in thinking the airlines can sod off. They are destroying the planet, this virus has made me realise how planes are used as buses, no one thinks twice about hopping here and there and look where that has got us now?!! We need to really scale back on flying and we need to look towards the uk being more self sufficient.

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 21:40

9 year old girl in critical condition in the Netherlands according to a dutch Friend. Apparently has a pre existing serious lung condition.

RandomlyChosenName · 14/03/2020 21:40
  1. We need to start testing everyone with symptoms
  2. We need people to wfh if they can and parents encouraged not to send their children to school if they can without sending them to over 60s
  3. We need all tourist attractions, social venues etc to close
  4. We need measures in place for those who will struggle
VivaLeBeaver · 14/03/2020 21:41

Also bumped into a nurse friend today. She works at local gospel where a coronavirus pt is being treated. She says the hospital had initially had a big push for Fit mask testing for staff. Govt had said to have 80% of staff trained within 2 weeks. I’ve done this before, it’s the proper, air tight mask.

Friend says hospital have abandoned the training and the masks.

It’s now being decided that virus is droplet borne not airborne so no need for an airtight mask. Any old mask such a paper/fabric surgeons mask is fine and that’s now what’s been used. And that hand washing is the most important thing.

WattsandAwl · 14/03/2020 21:42

I agree Number 12. I really don't care about airlines at the moment.

Kuponut · 14/03/2020 21:43

The Durham 7 year old story is not true apparently. Grandmother over reacted and put it on FB, it went mad and then the parents have corrected the situation.

cjt110 · 14/03/2020 21:43

@Calmonthesurfacebut The sore ears inside is my typical cold response

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 21:43

What do airlines want? Being propped up?

No chance we’ve got bigger issues to deal with.

Lynamic · 14/03/2020 21:45

Number 12 I really think we live in way overcrowded conditions, both parents working close to cities full time and all this drama about childcare, schools harassing if children need time off. I haven't had a garden in years and was lucky to find a supermarket to deliver before next Friday.

www.itv.com/news/2020-03-14/elderly-to-be-quarantined-for-four-months-in-wartime-style-mobilisation-to-combat-coronavirus/

Elderly to be ordered to remain indoors for 16 weeks to combat coronavirus, it has been revealed

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 14/03/2020 21:46

Airlines employ lots of people though, and there's a huge supply chain involved... be careful what you wish for marsha

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 21:47

What are they asking for Yolo?

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 21:49

On employment well so does many other sectors about to be hit hard. They all have equal stresses I suppose.

MaxNormal · 14/03/2020 21:50

If airlines go bust then no chance of my DH being able to earn a living, after the months of zero income we are already facing.
Things aren't that simple, it would have huge knock on effects.

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 21:51

Max sadly it will be the same for many in other sectors. Insolvency already up.

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 21:52

Btw you’ll never see me post economy over people as other pp do. I know economy is livelihoods.

picklemewalnuts · 14/03/2020 21:53

Thanks Blackbird!

Oakmaiden · 14/03/2020 21:54

It is going to be a big mess for so many companies.

I guess a lot of people/firms will have to cease trading, close the doors and hope that when the dust settles they can scrape something back together.

It is going to be very hard for quite a long time I think.

plaidpyjamas · 14/03/2020 21:55

@cjt110 i have tight throat and constant throat clearing/ cough since yesterday but i am pretty sure it is anxiety and not CV. I have started reading the postive mental health thread and TBH its a godsend.
