The grey wave looks preferable because it laces fewer demands on the NHS.

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 21:12

The fear it be worse in the winter and crash the NHS.

Loppy10 · 14/03/2020 21:12

Anybody seen this? Any thoughts

It's a terrible video, which is being shared widely on right wing boomer Facebook groups. Misleading in two main ways. It says the aim is to reduce rather than halt the rate of infections (which is indeed the stated aim of the UK and of every other country) but omits the fact that the UK is doing virtually nothing to slow that rate. We've told over 70s not to go on cruises, kids not to go on school trips, and told everyone to wash their hands. That's it. Other countries have shut their boarders, closed schools and unnecessary businesses and taken other measures to slow the rate.

The other way that it is misleading is that it omits the fact that there is NO spare capacity in the NHS after years of cutbacks, and as an NHS worker I can tell you very little is being done to increase capacity. His demonstration of demand increasing would be accurate if it showed a slight increase completely overflowing the bucket from the start, and then a torrential increase in demand following due to the lack of any social distancing measures

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 21:14

Nope because in WW1 the very sick solders travelled more than the mildly affected.

Even in the Uk only 40/50% got it before it died out.

Nogoodnickname · 14/03/2020 21:14

@SofieSarah I’m in tears reading this. I hope with all my heart that your amazing, selfless brother and sil can get through this unharmed.

My stupid DP decided on Thursday to book flights to France to go skiing in the Pyrenees as the flights were £15. He's now stuck in France, with the bars and restaurants closing tonight, wanting to come back, but Ryanair are charging £300 for flights! He's worried flights might just suddenly stop and he'll be stranded there. I have no sympathy with him as I thought it was a reckless and irresponsible thing to do but he's so stubborn he didn't take the situation seriously or listen to me!

Sky News Breaking - 'Sky News understands the bosses of Virgin Atlantic will write a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson saying the UK airline industry needs £7.5bn in government aid due to the impact of covid-19.'

VivaLeBeaver · 14/03/2020 21:16

A friend of mine is Chinese and lives here in the U.K. she says some of her Chinese friends are leaving here and going back to China as they think it’s safer! Wtf! And I think they’re right!

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 21:17

Destiny!

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 21:18

Sky News Breaking - 'A group of scientists have written a letter to the UK government asking for the scientific evidence behind its covid-19 response to be released after concerns about the course of action being taken against the coronavirus pandemic.'

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 21:18

Agree with the principle of the video but and the principle of UK stragety to slow this peak but we are taking no action to do that at all.

We are racing towards a peak.
People are lost in the dark, no one knows whose got it or doesn't have it!

I wonder if they wanted it to spread much more before they start their big steps Hmm like asking whole families to self isolate for 7 days and asking the elderly to be lonely?!

WhoWants2Know · 14/03/2020 21:19

A doctor on the Coronavirus podcast did mention the brown steroid inhalers and clarified that they are a tiny amount (measured in micro grams) delivered directly to the necessary area, and that they aren't considered a risk.

The steroids that potentially would be more risky are the much higher dose oral steroids that affect the whole body.

cjt110 · 14/03/2020 21:21

Sore throat (from nervous cough) and sore ears inside. Not cv19 right? No temp and no new cough apart from a throat clearing thing that seems to have gone into anxious overdrive the last few days...

picklemewalnuts · 14/03/2020 21:22

That's good to know, Who!

I don't usually take them all year, though it is prescribed- I can tell when something is starting and take them then so it doesn't brew up as badly.

However I have been taking it this week as preparation for CV.

WhoWants2Know · 14/03/2020 21:24

Yep, I haven't needed to use my brown or blue inhalers until two weeks ago. As the weather has warmed up, suddenly my breathing is ragged.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 14/03/2020 21:24

DD1 just phoned to say that all the ski lifts in her region of French Alps are closed. She and the other seasonnaires are going out to get pissed before the bars close at 12pm. Tomorrow we work out how to get her home...

Lynamic · 14/03/2020 21:25

That will be hard for asthmatics having an immune reaction to the virus, not to take their prednisolone. I would probably give a minimal dose if it was really needed. This is scary. I live in an apartment block and considering using masks when I go out, have noticed people coughing walking by my door. Why can't they just use a tissue? All this could be avoided

Sky News Breaking - 'U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has announced the extension of the Europe travel restrictions to the UK and Ireland will come into force from Monday night.'

Tom Burridge - 'Stark warning from UK airlines tonight after US travel restrictions extended to UK: “Time for action. No more bean counting. We’re talking about the future of UK aviation and unless Government pulls itself together who knows what will be left of it once we get out of this mess.” '.

cjt110 · 14/03/2020 21:27

@Lynamic I suppose it’s habit. People cough and sneeze normally and it’s adjusting to the new things.

I’m scared to even itch my face when I know since being out I’ve washed my hands at least 4 times. Have even found myself opening doors with my hands in my sleeves... 🤦‍♀️

Nogoodnickname · 14/03/2020 21:28

Thank you @WhoWants2Know. My DS who is 4 has to have this every morning and evening, and I’ve just had to start back on it after not needing it for a long time.
