Is re-infection possible? "More than 100 reported cases of Chinese patients who have been released from hospitals as survivors of the new coronavirus — only to test positive for it a second time in the bewildering math of this mysterious illness."

DB and DSIL are both doctors. They expect to be in the thick of things within weeks and are starting to prepare. They are in their thirties and healthy but have seen the reports of young, overworked, overexposed doctors in other countries succumbing. So as part of their preparations, they have just asked if I would be willing to take their DC - three little ones under six - in the event that they both die fighting this. I am completely distraught at the thought of this loving young family being destroyed by this.

ofwarren · 14/03/2020 19:00

@sofiesarah
That brought tears to my eyes.
Definitely brings home the enormity of the whole situation.

I’m worried I’ll catch this covid19 virus or any other cold/virus before I get some hospital test results back in the next week (possible cancer). I really don’t want to be stuck making a decision about going in to go through my results and cancer treatment plan, or having to wait until I have no cold/virus symptoms! I wish there was a bit of guidance on this.

ajandjjmum · 14/03/2020 19:01

God Sofie - that makes my worries so tiny in comparison. Good luck and thank you to your DB and DSIL - and all the other medics - and to you for supporting them.

Quartz2208 · 14/03/2020 19:01

ofwarren that too though is simply an american newspaper rehashing stuff we saw 6 or 7 threads back

It also says that reinfection so close is highly unlikely

me too calm ! annoying tickly cough since yesterday and feeling bit chilly but no temperature.

I think that's the same advice for everyone. 7 days and get in touch if anything changes

BREAKING: PM of France: Starting at midnight tonight all restaurants, bars, retail stores, cinemas, gathering places CLOSED. Food stores & pharmacies open.

Spain about to go into complete lockdown too.

Meanwhile in UK the only thing the govt can suggest is not going on cruise ships

The UK's "herd immunity" strategy would result in a death rate 134 times higher than September 11, a World Health Organisation expert claimed.

Siblings in Paris have just informed me that they currently have 300 critical patients, half of which under the age of 60.

So much for older patients...

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 19:05

3k died in 9/11 - times that by 134 you get 402 thousand.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 14/03/2020 19:05

Can I just check, have we all washed our hands while singing Happy Birthday Boris twice?

Because it seems clear that that will work really really well.

Currently making plans to get DD1 home from French Alps.

Confuddledtown · 14/03/2020 19:06

@Jenasaurus yes that's it

@Ramalamalama

Yes I was aware of that, I meant they may extrapolate the figures from who goes on line, using the address to identify clusters or ‘high’ logins. It wield be very easy to write the program for that and then a formula to count for those just having a look.

As click throughs increase that may give an idea of how many people are thinking they may have it. I certainly hadn’t gone on the site before now.

On Saturdays, my 9 year ASD DS is allowed a McD's happy meal. I never go in, always drive through. I went just now, took antibac wipes and paid by contactless. This is at the local leisure park. I'm in Hertfordshire where we have quite a high number of CV cases and 3 deaths (I think) so far. It was packed. People congregating everywhere. The cinema was heaving, Hollywood Bowl was heaving, the restaurants appear full (think Ask, Nandos), McD's was packed. Here lies the issue. People are not taking this seriously and think it's going to happen to somebody else. There is no apparent effort to socially distance. I have been socially distancing, literally going out if I need to, ninja trips to the local shop, exercise in the remotest spots so I don't come across anybody else (or can keep a good distance at least). DS is still at school where they have been very hot with hygiene and I have been vigilant to the extreme with hand washing, washing his coat and uniform every day and spraying his bag when he comes in. I'm doing what I can under the vague guidance of the Government. Yet what are these other fuckers doing? Sitting shoulder to shoulder at the cinema and picking up bowling balls and then going out for dinner. The mind utterly boggles.

i doubt 55% know who Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is but they trust him.

From the Guardian 'Across the country as a whole, about 41% think the government’s response has been proportionate, against 40% who say it has “underreacted”. But in London, only 32% think its reaction has been proportionate, with 55% saying it has not done enough.

'The public also appears to be reconciled to the idea that more drastic measures will need to be taken soon. About 76% think flights from virus hotspots will need to be banned, and 68% think handwash and toilet paper will need to be rationed. About 44% think schools will need to be closed, against 26% who think this would be unnecessary.'
