Through the press conference looks like a joke for trump with a baseball cap on.

KenAdams · 14/03/2020 17:04

So nobody is following government advice then? Businesses are making their own rules because they clearly don't feel the governments measures are stringent enough. You'd think the government would just announce closures in that case to at least make it look like people are listening to them!

Hi, been reading these posts for a while now but not posted myself. My gran (very elderly) has just come down with a bad cough-she had a hospital appointment yesterday but was too ill to attend-mum rang to cancel and they asked if she could possibly make it in?! I don't think they even mentioned Coronavirus! I am shocked! Local doctor was shocked they wanted her to come in as well. And from a hospital which I now see is on the list where a patient sadly died of it!

She was too ill to go in anyway, feeling better today-don't think it possibly can be Coronavirus (she's not going out anyway) but wow I am so shocked at the hospital! Even if (hopefully) it's just a normal cold would they want to risk other people catching it? And what if the doctor caught it he'd have to get tested and self-isolate if he had a cough. I'm just speechless tbh.

It's amazing how covid is crossing party and personal lines. I've seen many posters praising Boris when they hate tories..... I've been very impressed by trump so far....
For trump.

They are holding their hands up and admitted they made a mistake.

They said they will test everyone so people don't feel like they will be kept in the dark not knowing what's going on.

(like us).

They seem far more human and warm than ours.

I deeply worry that our medical chiefs are solely looking at this from one perspective only.

We need everyone to throw ideas in the ring.

Eg science may tell us children can work on the mines, go up chimneys etc and they are young and fit and it will be fine.
Compared to older people down mines and shimmy ING up chimneys.

But we need Charles dickens and Charles Kingsley to come along and add compassion and reality to those figures.

The riots in Paris are at a pre-arranged gilet jaune protest from what I can make out, rather than a direct reaction to CV restrictions.

MacronsPenWiper

Older people in Italy have caught the disease than in S Korea. CFR correlates strongly with age. Hence higher death rate in Italy.

Recently, 3% of all confirmed cases in South Korea were at least 80 years old. At about the same time, 19.1% of all confirmed cases in Italy were at least 80 years old

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 17:13

Deaths down cases up in italy

AvocadoOwl · 14/03/2020 17:13

In my opinion the US travel restrictions are designed to make it appear as though the Trump administration are taking a tough proactive stance when the reality is the virus is already exploding within US communities and they aren't doing nearly enough.

Random18 · 14/03/2020 17:14

South Korea is also doing a lot more testing. So are picking up a very high percentage of those affected.

I imagine demographics are different too?

Random18 · 14/03/2020 17:15

Avacado agree! They are in a lot worse position than us. And if anything this protects us more than them.

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 17:16

BNO Newsroom - 'The number of coronavirus cases worldwide has surpassed 150,000. Of those, 5,774 have died, 73,962 have recovered, and 72,698 are still sick.'

Wehttam · 14/03/2020 17:18

Jesus angry imagine when we are in the millions 😭😫

Yes. My précis was a gross simplification of the article. It is well worth reading.

I'm 43, I have hypertension, my youngest child is 6. Two of my children are asthmatic. Wtf are those of us who have high risk, underlying conditions supposed to do to protect ourselves if they wont close schools or let those of us who want to take our children out of school without fines or having to de register?

I'm pulling my children out on Monday.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 14/03/2020 17:25

I dont see any other choice.

Ministers to unveil emergency Coronavirus powers:

  • Police allowed to detain infected

  • Care standards could be lowered for elderly

  • Ministers allowed to close ports

  • 'Trains, vessels & aircraft' can be halted

  • Schools can be directed to close or remain open

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 14/03/2020 17:26

glitterybaubles I would do exactly the same. Fines will be as nothing in 6-8 weeks. Go for it.

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 17:27

Ifart you can do the 7 day thing. Or will you de-register?

JJPC · 14/03/2020 17:31

I’m wondering if with 3 children we can be isolated until Easter, I can’t get one to school without leaving the others

SonjaMorgan · 14/03/2020 17:31

@NotesOnEnvelope I have been considering pulling my children out. I will just lie and say they have temperatures and therefore must be confined for the 7day period.

I'm going to do 7 day thing first for the next two weeks, if after that they still haven't closed then I'll speak to the head. If she will record the abscence as authorised under code Y on the register then I hopefully wont have to de register.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 14/03/2020 17:36

ExH has just messaged me, he's been sent home from work with a suddenly appearing fever.
