And they had far more cases than us. Why are we being told that it is too hard to contain the virus when we have far less cases as a starting point?

PeterPan I did laugh.

@MangoFeverDream
Exactly. Having all of these things in place made it easier to introduce and monitor restrictions.
In the time I have lived there (12 years) overall restrictions have got tougher eg we used to be able to travel by train without passport/Id card and increased use of smart phone and the wechat app (which is not encrypted) have made it much easier to monitor what is going on.

Is mutation a bad thing, necessarily? If it mutates to a less dangerous strain?

It may very well do so. Might become something more like seasonal flu (this will still be shit and cost lots of lives long-term, mind you)

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2020 14:00

I'm grasping at straws here. Desperate for a bit of good news.

Fucking hate this fucking shit.

ShanghaiDiva · 15/03/2020 14:03

@Lordamighty
Thanks.
Nobody has to believe me, but reports from friends and colleagues in China suggest that measures are working. The sometimes chaotic response with regard to arrivals from outside supports this. They are terrified of this virus spiking again.
I do have a 13 year old dd. Does anyone here really think I would not carefully consider what is happening and which sources the information is coming from. I would never put her health at risk.

NanSlayer · 15/03/2020 14:09

Seriously you believe anything the Communist Party of China have to report ?!?!

Do they even teach children about Propaganda in schools anymore.

ShanghaiDiva · 15/03/2020 14:09

@ChardonnaysPetDragon
I know we may not have agreed regarding China and the govt etc, but it is shit.
My dh is in HK and we haven’t seen him for over a month. Dd is stuck with online learning and isolated from her friends. She has lived in China nearly her whole life and desperately wants to go back. I am trying to be positive for her.
I know that my situation is fine compared to many, many others and that there are even tougher times ahead.

ShanghaiDiva · 15/03/2020 14:10

@NanSlayer
Is that directed at me?

NanSlayer · 15/03/2020 14:26

@ShanghaiDiva I didn't include you name?

ShanghaiDiva · 15/03/2020 15:51

I wondered who the ‘you’ referred to.

The OP obviously.
