China have contained virus within 7 weeks

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 15:54

And they had far more cases than us. Why are we being told that it is too hard to contain the virus when we have far less cases as a starting point?

Nobody is stopping the old and other at risk individuals from staying home. Why does the government have to tell them to do so?

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:33

Of course WHO do not give advice based on lies. Why would you say that? You think the whole of WHO are lying and Boris is telling the truth?
FFS that is just offensive.

I would also like to know if the WHO will put pressure on China to ensure the safety of their food chain. How many more viruses will come out of there before there is a clamp down. After SARS , Asian Flu, Bird Flu and ,and ,and .. nothing happened. If they can build hospitals in 10 days and be so oh so great at containing the virus then surely they can put these so called markets back into history where they belong.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/03/2020 16:36

China always seem to be the best at most things

Isn’t it their fault it started in the first place? Grin

Butterwhy · 13/03/2020 16:37

Nope, they're not lying, but assuming that the data they have from China is accurate is naieve. And yes, they give advice but don't have to consider the wider implications of applying it, or if it's realistic within a particular society.

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 16:38

They took action that people wouldn’t deal with here.

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 16:40

But also as pp it started there so not great on that front.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/03/2020 16:42

They should have closed up as soon as the virus started.

They covered up, they let people congregate for festivities, they silenced the whistleblowers.

The virus was containable. They left it too late.

I really don't understand the genuflecting at the altar of China in this instance.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/03/2020 16:43

And they facilitated it by not shutting up their markets for wild animals after SARS.

ViserionTheDragon · 13/03/2020 16:44

China always seem to be the best at most things!

Having lived in China for six years, I can assure you, they are not.

Deelish75 · 13/03/2020 16:46

Also interested to see what happens with this virus once the restrictions in China are lifted.

Onemorehitandillcrumble · 13/03/2020 16:47

so not much hope that people would be selfless enough to adhere to restrictions for 7 weeks

We don’t even have people selfless enough to obey the warning signs outside our Drs saying ‘do not enter if you have a cough’. Selfish twits insisted on sitting in a packed waiting room & having their appointment

Chloemol · 13/03/2020 16:49

China is state run, therefore all utilities etc will continue. Here companies run that, r if everyone is locked down as China has done no one will ge going to work, so no utilities, no heating, water, no food from shops, no doctors, if your house catches fire no fire engines etc. In China they were locked down in their homes 24/7, That won’t happen here as we see from the idiots posting on self isolation posts and asking if they can still go our running or walking the dog.

As Bojo said in his speech yesterday do it to soon and people will get fed up and stop. So the virus will carry on

schnubbins · 13/03/2020 16:56

...and they let their citizens travel world wide for the Chinese New Year at the end of January .The government knew already what was going on.They made the 'announcement ' just as millions of Chinese had already left their homes to travel worldwide for the biggest celebration of the year. Funny how when it is 'contained' in their own country it was possible to ban flights.I was sitting in a restaurant at the end of Jan.We were the only non Chinese people .They all came in with masks on .They also knew what was going on. If any of us Europeans were to fly into Chinese Airport we would be locked up in quarantine straight away.If they had taken the right precautions world wide and been honest with what was going on then we wouldn't all be facing this disaster.

AngelicaKauffman · 13/03/2020 17:01

Lol at everyone thinking @DettolsYourFriend's comment wasn't sarcasm. Clearly he/she was implying that China just lies about things to make itself look good.

Comprehension levels on mumsnet are woeful.

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 17:05

Whilst they’ve don’t a good job at clamping down now I agree with pp about letting people travel, denying it and starting it after not learning from SARS.

ShanghaiDiva · 13/03/2020 17:09

Lots of things posted in this thread are not true. I have lived in China for 12 years and some of these comments are bizarre!

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 17:10

Is the travel part true? Also denying it

Not learning from SARS I presume is

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/03/2020 17:12

Like what?

AnyFucker · 13/03/2020 17:12

And when restrictions are lifted, there will be another surge in transmission

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/03/2020 17:14

This one is on the Chinese Government.

NaturalBornWoman · 13/03/2020 17:14

Which ones?

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/03/2020 17:14

@NaturalBornWoman
How do you propose enforcing a lockdown lasting weeks in a democracy where we generally don't go around welding people into their homes?
Martial law with extremely severe criminal sanctions for non compliance.

LovelyBitOfSquirrelJackie · 13/03/2020 17:18
  1. I would seriously question the truth of any stats coming out China.

  2. As others have said, the methods breach human rights in the UK.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/03/2020 17:19

We’ll see what happens. It’s not over yet by a long way.
