This is the link to join the Facebook group to try to encourage the government to close schools. It’s tiny at the minute (190 members) let’s see if we can make it go viral. Share on all your social media please 🤞

Horehound · 13/03/2020 20:52

@VivaLeBeaver well, for most it is going to be like a cold Confused he isn't wrong!

Wehttam · 13/03/2020 20:52

🤮 they haven’t, it’s just got bad, it’s yet to get worse

BigChocFrenzy · 13/03/2020 20:53

Horehound SARS & MERS both have much higher death rates - maybe what that article means by "severe"

but they are much more difficult to catch than COVID-19

iirc SARS was only a serious problem in healthcare settings with poor hygeine, so once that was sorted out everywhere, there have been very few cases

MERS, as the name suggests, didn't occur much outside the Middle East

"I want to go and live in Poland! Schools, bars, restaurants and gatherings of over 50 people have bern banned. Meanwhile we get told that loved ones will die before their time but we should just keep washing our hands."

Yep - Polish DW thinks that the UK is round the bend. We'll be keeping DS off school from Monday onwards.

OhMargo · 13/03/2020 20:55

Shocking C19 policies in Britain.

Experiment in genocide of the vulnerable. I don't know how you lot are so accepting. First it was Brexit, now it is C19.

Get on yer bikes and demand action NOW.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 20:59

If I had school age DC I'd be keeping them off from now on, unless Y11 or 13. (And thats because I'm lucky enough to work from home).

What's the point? they are only going to be exposed, expose the teachers/school staff to infection, I very much doubt they'll be learning anything anyway at the moment as every class will be subject to "miss! what about the virus" type interventions.

Teachers, hospital staff, paramedics, firefighters, dustbin men etc etc - these are the people that need to be kept safe in order to be able to do their jobs. So if those of us who can can self isolate - or at least reduce social contact - can do so, then we should.

IrisAtwood · 13/03/2020 21:01

I had to see my solicitor today to sign my will and she told me that starting on Monday they are working from home. This is West Midlands, fairly large city.

Exochord · 13/03/2020 21:01

Just received an email from Tesco saying some products will be rationed or unavailable, there is huge demand for delivery slots, and you need to notify them if you’re unwell because the driver won’t come into the house and you won’t be allowed to touch the signature pad. Tbh I’m inclined to say I’m unwell regardless because it’s safer not to have the driver in the house and I definitely don’t want to touch the pad.

@MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately I think teaching will look quite attractive...being at home for weeks on full pay whilst others are being made redundant and earning nothing.

ofwarren · 13/03/2020 21:05

@migginsmissus
Because I bought that months worth in January and February. I saw this situation coming from a mile off.
Am I not allowed to do my normal weekly shop now?
Funny thing is, i didn't need to buy soap, hand gel, bleach, Dettol, toilet roll...

BeijingBikini · 13/03/2020 21:06

We can WFH no problem....the problem is that there doesn't seem to be much work to do, as no-one's buying any holidays! All the work I've done recently has been forgotten because the priority is trying to mitigate CV impact.

mrshoho · 13/03/2020 21:06

I do want to have faith in the UK's system and I will be the first to congratulate Boris if our response proves more successful in the long run but.... In reality just one of the problems I can see is that we have possibly thousands of healthcare workers around the country working in care homes treating our elderly and vulnerable. All it would take is for say one care home in every town to become infected and we already know the speed at which some people become critically ill. This alone would be a disaster for our already near capacity hospitals. The other problem with our plan is that all our emergency services workers are not protected and allowing the virus to spread unchecked will lead to dangerous shortages of manpower. I'm sorry I don't feel very reassured at all.

Bessica1970 · 13/03/2020 21:07

You really think we’ll be doing nothing?
We will be expected to set and mark work for the younger years, and teach online for the exam year groups - I’m expecting to be busier when we close rather than sit with my feet up 😂

georgeggg · 13/03/2020 21:07

If you are keeping your children off school, what are you telling the school? Are you risking getting a fine? Are you telling them your children have cough/temperature or are you writing emails to state your reasons surrounding the Coronavirus?

I feel so conflicted, we have had a case at our school and it's business as usual, I feel a need to protect our family, dh is unwell with a cough, bad chest at the moment.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/13/coronavirus-donald-trump-presidency-sick-joke

The coronavirus outbreak has revealed the full stupidity, incompetence and selfishness of the president to deadly effect
........
Multiple reports have detailedd how Trump did not just ignore the growing pandemic;

he actively sought to block his own officials’ attempts to track and stop it.

Why has there been such a disastrous lack of testing?
Because the president didn’t want to know the answer,
and because his staff were too busy fighting each other to do the right thing.

“The boss has made it clear he likes to see his people fight, and he wants the news to be good,”
Politico reported one Trump health adviser saying. “This is the world he’s made.”

Never mind a world turned upside down by fear and death.
Trump’s world is upended by his gobsmackingly childish comments about how the whole thing will blow over.
“It’s going to disappear,” he told one reception inside the White House just two weeks ago.

“One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

I’m on a Facebook group for teachers across the world whose schools have closed due to Coronavirus. None of them are just sitting at home.

Bumblesbumbles · 13/03/2020 21:09

I don’t think fines are that important at the moment. I think lots will be doing the same unofficialy

All while looking after our own kids.

New link to the Facebook protest group ( they’ve changed the name to be more inclusive I think 🙂)

SubjectMatterExpert · 13/03/2020 21:14

Wouldn’t you HATE to be patient zero in a country 😱

georgeggg · 13/03/2020 21:14

@bumblesbumbles I understand that although on the news tonight they said the same legality stands until the government makes the decision to close the schools.

Some parents have had the education welfare on the phone asking why their child/children are not in school.
