Hungary is closing all schools and will continue education as best as it can via digital channels

Cupofteaandtoilet · 13/03/2020 21:21

My son is at Edinburgh Uni Med School. Says they've just been told the whole uni is closing and all work and exams will now be online.

Bumblesbumbles · 13/03/2020 21:21

@georgeggg - they shouldn’t have time for that at the moment! I’ll take the risk as are many others! It will be kicking off in a couple of weeks and then this absence will be forgotten.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 21:21

If I had kids at school I'd just lie. No matter what it did to the figures, I'd just say they had a temp/cough.

Borders seem to be closing all over Europe... but we are still washing our hands.

Not impressed.

DivisionBelles · 13/03/2020 21:23

@BeijingBikini I work in a similar industry, although selling UK holidays. We've got people wanting to cancel on one hand and on the other, loads of people wanting to come to our remote and possibly perceived as safer, part of the country. We can work from home too.

PestyMachtubernahme · 13/03/2020 21:25

Wouldn't you hate to be in the control group during a pandemic?

Eeyoresstickhouse · 13/03/2020 21:26

Does anywhere have a list that shows all the countries that have taken measures and what they have taken?

U.S. RESPONSE 'MUCH, MUCH WORSE THAN ALMOST ANY COUNTRY':

www.facebook.com/NowThisNews/videos/1074179789610881/

Ashish Jha, who runs Harvard's Global Health Institute, says

the U.S. coronavirus response has been 'much, much worse than almost any other country that's been affected.'

He used words like 'stunning,' 'fiasco' and 'mind-blowing' to describe how bad it is,NPR reported.

'I still don't understand why we don't have extensive testing,' Jha said.
The best estimates are that the U.S. has conducted about 13,000 total tests in the past two months;
in comparison, South Korea is conducting 10,000 tests per day.

DH’s work has allocated employees a cafeteria slot for lunch in groups of 30 so they’ll have room to spread out. Queuing has been banned, you attend your scheduled slot and your meal is served at the table. You have 15 minutes to eat then they have 15 minutes to clean and disinfect before the next sitting. It’s an Italian company in the UK and they appear to be taking advice from head office on how to handle this. They’re asking staff to self isolate as much as possible because they’ll be furious if they’ve gone to all this effort and expense only for some numpty to go to a concert at the weekend and bring coronavirus to work.

Wehttam · 13/03/2020 21:30

Literally every country is shutting down and we are keeping calm and carrying on. Let’s see how calm playing catch up will be!

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 21:32

Things are closing down here anyway

Big events, businesses will more and more

Angryrant55 · 13/03/2020 21:32

Rumour - tif exams need to be postponed the plan is for them to be rescheduled due the summer holidays and if you're then on holiday so your kids misses them tough luck.

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 21:32

WFH not close down

BunsyGirl · 13/03/2020 21:33

@Bessica1970 my brother is a secondary school teacher. He’s been told that he will have to be logged on between 8.25 until 3.30 to answer parent/student queries about work. Sounds a lot more attractive than being made redundant which is what my friends in the travel and events industries are facing.

jmcg2015 · 13/03/2020 21:35

This post is an appeal, many will ignore it or scoff - but please do read.

For those who have, plan to or continue to stockpile or "panic buy" - please do stop. You are making it increasingly difficult for the vast majority to buy even the simplest of things, the elderly who can only shop when their budget and health allow are leaving store across the country having been unable to buy.

This is no small thing, it's an action which literally is making a bad situation so much worse.

A simple answer to a simple question is all that is needed - when this passes, will you be happy that your actions have disadvantaged and endangered the lives of others? Increased their suffering for those who can't find painkillers or feed themselves because you have taken these simple things away from them? If so, then carry on - no appeal for common sense will stop you. For those who think they should - please don't, this is about everyone together, don't join those who are perpetuating this problem.

.
This post isn't an invite for abuse, or for justifications for stockpiling, I'm sure we have heard it all before. It's a simple request, try your hardest to be the best you can be, it's a club you really don't want to be a member of

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/03/2020 21:39

FacingtheAbess · 13/03/2020 21:40

What does a peak look like in countries who can't shut down like China?

The Facebook protest page has jumped from 190 members to 210 members in 10 minutes - let’s see if we can get a bit of positive exponential growth going!

I’m sick of not doing anything and feeling like I can’t protect my family.

If everyone shares this group on their social media, and if three of your friends pass it on - and three of their friends... well I think we all know how that end!

Let’s do this 👍

A useful lesson from Italy
Flag of Italy

#Covid_19

Italy's outbreak started in the province of Lodi, in Southern Lombardy. The Italian government forced a first lockdown here 3 weeks ago. This area only counted 10 new cases today (+0.9% on yesterday). Social distancing works.

The province has a population of 229,541.

Angryrant55 · 13/03/2020 21:44

The child’s mother had been rushed to a London hospital days earlier with suspected pneumonia.

Nacreous · 13/03/2020 21:44

My work is doing a risk assessment now, and the expectation is that from next week no one over 60, or with comorbities, will be allowed into work.

I'm half pleased, because I have comorbities and am concerned about this. I'm half fed up because this is going to go on for months and I will have gone stir crazy after two months of home working.

I am acutely aware that we all need to do everything we can to slow the spread of this so I will stay at home and I will avoid gatherings as far as reasonable.

I have been forecasting UK positive tests based on historical data and have so far been dismayingly accurate. Obviously that may change as the testing criteria are changed. Why am I doing this? To try and assess the likely impact of the infections. The results are really quite concerning and I would like the UK to be taking more robust measures - recommending home working where possible at the absolute minimum.

@maudspellbody

As communities around the world are struggling with Coronavirus (COVID-19), I wanted to reach out and address concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the steps we’re taking in our stores to continue our focus on keeping people safe and healthy.

Our number one priority is the safety of our customers, employees and their families. At The Body Shop our store teams always follow strict hygiene protocols. We have reinforced these in line with the latest World Health Organisation guidelines. Customers are welcome to come into store and use the hand sanitizers placed around the store.

We have also made the decision to stop makeup demonstrations and to minimise any skin to skin contact in our stores. We have also removed tester pots from our shelves and will not be giving out any unsealed product samples. There are still plenty of ways to experience our products that don’t involve tester pots - from our award winning serums through to our fragrance mists and hand washes. We hope you support us in taking these additional measures.

Any team member who is worried they have symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19) is encouraged to stay home in line with the latest guidelines. We have paid sick leave for all of our permanent and hourly staff, including those who are self-isolating.

We are closely monitoring the situation to make sure we are taking all precautions to protect our customers and colleagues alike. Our stores remain open for business and remember you can always shop online at thebodyshop.com.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message, please take care of yourselves.
