I’m a lurker from the very beginning. I’ve been following daily and found these threads very helpful.

I’be gone from anxious to absolutely angry. We are being told to sacrifice our loved ones for “herd immunity “ with a virus that is so new we aren’t confident we can’t be reinfected.

What happens if the UK declare it a national emergency?

1happyhippie · 13/03/2020 19:36

@Maighdeann I guess we just wash our hands more? 🤷🏻‍♀️

BeijingBikini · 13/03/2020 19:36

I literally NEVER get ill, no colds for 2+ years, yet now I have a sore throat, itchy chest & cough, headache and chills. Very suspicious if you ask me.........

With the minimal levels of testing they're doing, we could all already have it.

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/03/2020 19:36

Maighdeann

probably nothing, Just lay back and think of England but wash your hands first.

anonacfr · 13/03/2020 19:38

Trump talking about tests...

The US have conducted 77 tests this past WEEK.

Kuponut · 13/03/2020 19:39

What happens if the UK declare it a national emergency

We get to upgrade the threat level to three happy birthday to yous

DD2 is pleased at least that everyone is fully practiced in singing happy birthday in readiness for her birthday by now!

DivisionBelles · 13/03/2020 19:39

I've lurked here too since thread 1. The govt playing this down is really worrying. Most other countries seem to be taking much more draconian measures to control this, but our lot have so far not appeared to do very much.
DD, who works in central Birmingham, has been told that the office is now shut and all staff are to work home until further notice. They have no cases and nobody in isolation. Meanwhile, Boris and Co are trying to hang on to some kind of misguided Blitz spirit and are basically saying, 'keep calm and carry on'. Thankfully organisations outside govt seem to be more on the ball.

Widget123 · 13/03/2020 19:39

Our government is just letting us die. Apparently if schools close 3% could be wiped from UK GDP. Say no more. I really hope the British people go against their advice and take matters into their own hands to save their loved ones. Judging by some of the responses on here, the fact many offices are already telling their workers to work from home and events like the marathon are being postponed... I guess we already are. Go England! Just do what you feels right. Fuck the government.

NEW: President Trump declares a national emergency in the United States. Will allow FEMA (national emergency organisation) to effectively federalise the American response.

This might not be good if Trump decides to follow the herd immunity approach.

idontlike789 · 13/03/2020 19:41

ve noticed there are fewer people popping up on these threads to tell us we are all hysterical and scaremongerers, but in the real world, people are still pretending it's all fine and everyone is being a drama queen.
Can I just say it's not that I think anyone is a drama queen it's just that not many have died out of 60 million people , people die every day for a variety of reasons .
Thad virus is out there agreed and it's highly likely that the elderly, vulnerable will die especially if you have health conditions that's a fact . What it is some of us don't see any point in Is being hysterical saying we are all going to die !!! . What will that do I have children 1 who is SEN I can't be seen panicking. My dc who has SEN does not like change so no I don't want schools to close . I also work , I already have a million and one things to think about so dying of a virus isn't up there . If I get Coronavirus I get Coronavirus but panicking is not going to help. Maybe stop and think and stay calm throughout all of this .
I'm not going to lock myself away until told otherwise, I will take precautions but I will try and live my life the best I can , I mean we are all going to die one day . I'm not going to waste my time worrying about this whatever will be will be .

Sadly 2/3 of the uk still want schools open and the press is all against closures - even the Morning star has an anti closure headline.

I am sick of this BBC propaganda. Do nurses only work 9-3. It's about the GDP they just won't say it.

I am so angry, agree with pp. cannon fodder!

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2020 19:45

Without China or even Taiwan type effort will every country face the same numbers proportionally no matter what -

So everyone same crisis just a matter of slowing it down?

MollyButton · 13/03/2020 19:46

I wonder where in the country are these people saying its all being blown out of all proportion? Because here in Surrey I would say most people are worried. Admittedly there has been some silly stockpiling, but I'd say people have been stocking up over the past couple of weeks.

Oh and if you do go out shopping, do remember to contribute to the local food banks.

MrsBeeluga · 13/03/2020 19:46

Hi @MmeAlice Dane here again Smile. How are you holding up?

Do you think they have closed the boarders to keep everyone out or us in? I was wondering how we would keep countries with other health policies out, this is certainly one way to do it.

I’m here at PHE Porton Down to say thank you to @PHE_uk
staff for their hard-work and commitment, and to see for myself the @DHSCgovuk
investment in finding a vaccine, the behavioural science that guides our response and analysis of the virus’s distinctive qualities.

Shorternights · 13/03/2020 19:49

I work in one of the large RG universities in Scotland. We are moving to online learning as of the 23rd (God knows how this will actually work) and have said students don’t need to come in. However, staff (all 14,000 of us) are expected to continue as normal. Plus, we have a massive international student population some of whom can’t go home. So it’s all a bit of a clusterfuck to be honest.

Wehttam · 13/03/2020 19:52

Evening all. Hope everyone is coping well? I’ve tried to keep away from the news today, it’s a fucking mess and yet everything is the same. I might sage my house tonight. Good vibes and all that. ☮️

SunshineCake · 13/03/2020 19:53

Whenever I think about staying in I keep fretting about my dog. I know she isn't important but she is to me. DD due to go to a uni next week. Not sure whether to let her ?

Bessica1970 · 13/03/2020 19:54

What if someone social media savvy person were to organise a mass protest where parents all agreed to keep their children (apart from years 11 and 13) off school on Monday with a ‘temperature’ - this might bring home to the government exactly how much support their is for this measure and how strongly the public feel.

I can’t do this as a teacher (it would possibly be a sackable offence).

Angryrant55 · 13/03/2020 19:55

Quin Torra announces a total quarantine in Catalonia, reports @La_SER

He would have asked the central government for authorization to carry it out.

Dramalamaindeed · 13/03/2020 19:56

I can’t believe the difference between our approach and Trumps.

I’m so angry.
