The one in four who refuses to change their behaviour (and their families) will contribute to the herd immunity. Solves it for us who will be self isolating to protect our family vulnerable members.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 13/03/2020 19:11

I have gone from being anxious and worried to being fucking angry today. We are being hung out to dry here. There is no point in my immediate family self isolating at a weekend when we mix with hundreds of students on a day to day basis. We cannot afford to not go to work. We need our jobs. I am so angry that this government have done this to the 60+ million citizens in this country.

Beebityboo · 13/03/2020 19:13

The school (though supportive and wonderful generally) told me today they think it's premature and said it would damage her social development to remove her, potentially until September. Whilst I agree it will be harmful I think the schools will close soon anyway. Am I right in thinking that? Or is panic just getting the better of me?

Dramalamaindeed · 13/03/2020 19:14

Scottish universities close yet why are the schools still open?

I’m on the verge of keeping my children home on Monday.

Beebityboo · 13/03/2020 19:15

I am just so frightened and really need some advice on what to do. I've never felt so insecure about the safety of my family before, not just the virus but from the potential civil unrest/societal panic and economic collapse that may be coming.

QueenofmyPrinces · 13/03/2020 19:16

Scottish universities close yet why are the schools still open?

I’m assuming it’s because (apparently) young children don’t get ill from the virus.

Why is it that anyway?

Catrescue1971 · 13/03/2020 19:17

My son's uni has closed for the week, meaning a 5 week break.

Albatross123 · 13/03/2020 19:17

The locals here are clearly taking it seriously!

Yesterday we entered the Delay phase of our #COVID_19uk Action Plan. @UKScienceChief explained why this is important.

It allows us to #FlattenTheCurve, which means reducing the impact in the short-term to ensure our health & care system can effectively protect vulnerable people

There is little chance of a usable vaccine being developed this year. Our approach reflects the need to do all we can to stop our NHS getting overwhelmed in the absence of a vaccine. - PV

Have you been on the coronavirus thread on the preppers board?
It's an absolute sanctuary.
It helps you to prepare both physically and mentally for what is to come.
I think it might be helpful.

NEW: ITV still plan to hold tomorrow's #SaturdayNightTakeaway in front of a full studio audience as normal.

Dramalamaindeed · 13/03/2020 19:21

@ QueenofmyPrinces

Possibly, but their families can and will do.

My child is supposed to be going to a friends house with 4 other children on Sunday. One child’s mum is a school teacher and her school was closed today due to a confirmed case (seconds school so may have came into contact, I have no idea).

Im going to cancel my son going but if her child goes and is carrying the virus and transfers it to the other children who go to the same school as my son (teachers son doesn’t go to same school) then he will catch it anyway.

Am I over thinking it?

Angryrant55 · 13/03/2020 19:23

@ofwarren

He thinks the limited measures are doing something but with employers not accepting self isolation people cant afford to self isolate. Espescally lower income people working in the private sector in non working from home jobs.

maudspellbody · 13/03/2020 19:24

I went shopping this afternoon and overheard a bloke - about late 50s, early 60s - declaring to his companion that 'it has all been blown out of proportion and I might have my holiday cancelled, which is really annoying'

And I had to walk off. How are people still thinking it is being blown out of proportion?! I've noticed there are fewer people popping up on these threads to tell us we are all hysterical and scaremongerers, but in the real world, people are still pretending it's all fine and everyone is being a drama queen.

This AFTER Boris, who has been downplaying this the whole time, announced that 'many will lose loved ones'.

This is not a drill, folks. Jeeeeez.

I know someone who visited their hairdresser today and the Hairdresser mocked the no kissing advice.

Ditto I was at A and E on tuesday and the Doctors seemed a tad blaise and laughed about it when one forgot the advice and shock hands with the other.

Will gp's still take on new patients?
DD uni effectively shut now, her GP is in London. What to do re repeat prescriptions? She can't keep going back to London to get it

Russia are building a coronavirus hospital with only 34 cases.

And what are we doing.....fuck all.

Report from Brabant in the Netherlands.

'a doctor in the province was interviewed, we are only at the beginning and the intensive care of most hospitals here are already full or getting near that point, he said that 1/3 of everyone getting into the hospital will end up at the intensive care'

  1. what are they doing to flatten the curb?
other countries are doing more to slow it.
  1. a vaccine may take quite a while, but trials for drugs to CV symptoms are already in the testing stage. most drugs are already available and approved on humans.

So treatment may well be available for a majority of patients if there is a spike after lock down, and can help tide us over until a vaccine is available.
