@46MrsBeeluga both I think. They want a stable situation that they can control. They want to get all touring Danes back home and self-isolating.

Bessica1970 · 13/03/2020 19:57

Another thing that occurred to me would be the setting up of a register of teachers willing to care for the kids of health care workers (in a school setting to reduce the chance of passing infections to their own family)

I'm not saying everyone is going to die either. I'm not panicking at all. As it happens, I'm perfectly healthy and so are my family and I'm not worried about us one little bit.

I am worried about the country as a whole, though. I'm worried about the health service. I'm worried about the vulnerable, who are more likely to be seriously ill, or worse.
Just because people get ill and die from other things doesn't make this ok.
Plus, lots of people who have heart attacks or cancer are helped to recover by the health service, who may be over stretched and unable to do so soon.

It's not being a drama queen to point out that this is a disaster and needs people to make changes and think of the bigger picture.

My local doctor surgery has closed and locked doors. You have to turn up 15 mins early and sit outside in car park (if you don't drive you have to buzz the bell and wait) then doctor comes out and takes you straight in and then you leave. I was a bit meh about all the panic but it's really stepped up and now I'm absolutely pooping myself! Finally just got my anxiety under control aswell

Dow soar after Trump declares national emergency. Shows gain of 1,400 points (7%) shortly before closing. President also orders purchase of oil to fill up reserves due to low global price. Oil prices spike, climb to about $34 US (up $2).

@46MrsBeeluga have you been watching the presse møder? I am very impressed with Mette Frederiksen.

Angryrant55 · 13/03/2020 20:00

@Bessica1970

Good idea.

SunshineCake · 13/03/2020 20:01

Just had an email from The Body Shop regarding their shops and staff. Impressed.

Shorternights DD at uni in Scotland (could well be yours!) but home following an operation. She's on about travelling back up to Scotland (1 1300 round journey) to sort her stuff out, get it into store. Hopefully she has that option before it escalates here. I certain don't envy the foreign students, there are so many of them.

We've had a mix up over a booking with Expedia. DH tried to phone this evening, they're not taking calls due to the coronavirus!

Under 5 per cent of NHS staff believe that the measures implemented by the UK are strong enough to prevent the escalation of the virus, Channel 4 News has found.

“What if someone social media savvy person were to organise a mass protest where parents all agreed to keep their children (apart from years 11 and 13) off school on Monday with a ‘temperature’ - this might bring home to the government exactly how much support their is for this measure and how strongly the public feel.”

A Facebook group - hosting an ‘event’ of ‘my children will be staying off school with a temperature on Monday’ could work, as long as people were told not to write that they were ‘pretending’ in case schools used it as evidence later.

ajandjjmum · 13/03/2020 20:05

There is a drive thru' testing centre in Wolverhampton apparently Marsha.

What it is some of us don't see any point in Is being hysterical saying we are all going to die !!!

I haven't seen anyone say anything remotely like this.

Horehound · 13/03/2020 20:06

Can someone read this ease. It's from the article linked below in the independent but I think the facts are wrong?!

Two other coronaviruses – Middle East respiratory syndrome (Mers) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) – are much more severe, having killed more than 1,500 people between them since 2002.

The new virus, officially called Covid-19, is also dangerous - so far, around 20 per cent of confirmed cases have been classed as severe or critical. So far, around 15 to 20 per cent of hospital cases have been classed as "severe" and the current death rate varies between 0.7 per cent and 3.4 per cent depending on the location and, crucially, access to good hospital care.

This is much lower than fatality rates for Mers (30 per cent) and Sars (10 per cent), but still a significant threat.

So ok it's within the UK but why are those coach holidays that the elderly go on for 5-7 days to a hotel and then out and about in the area still happening ?

Just for anyone concerned about the earlier Daily Mail report about blood pressure medications and coronavirus risk..... I take ramipril for hypertension so was really alarmed by the Lancet paper. However, have been somewhat reassured by the European Society of Cardiology statement about the research on their website which includes the following.....
"" This speculation about the safety of ACE-i or ARB treatment in relation to COVID-19 does not have a sound scientific basis or evidence to support it. Indeed, there is evidence from studies in animals suggesting that these medications might be rather protective against serious lung complications in patients with COVID-19 infection, but to date there is no data in humans."
