Thank you SemiSkimmedMilk and Ifartglitterybaubles.

I will print this off and pop it to the GP - I know him (sort of a friend), and he said he'd keep his eye open for anything - although I know he thought I was being crazy! Grin

He sounded concerned about the virus, so certainly not one of those pushing it to one side.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with your GP Ifartglittery baubles. My scientific understanding is rubbish, so I can't judge whether this is a worry - although my BP has shot up this afternoon, and I've told DH I'm not going out anywhere until this is all over! Grin

Apparently (Guardian) the Mayor of Miami has tested positive, having last week attended a reception with Bolsonaro and Trump.

LarkDescending · 13/03/2020 16:15

*earlier this week, not last week

mumoftwodc · 13/03/2020 16:16

Just picked up my son from school. One of the students in his class was telling everyone that his mum has suspected coronavirus but he's okay so in school. Fortunately the school had the sense to send him home!

Dramalamaindeed · 13/03/2020 16:18

First death in Scotland

I hope boris and his team are watching WHO speaking on sky news!
There advice is to move and move fast, test, trace, isolate and treat all your infected!

Cheeseismylife · 13/03/2020 16:34

I wish the FO would advise no travel to affected areas. That would help stop people going away.
I am resigned to the fact that we are going to lose three trips abroad that have been planned more than a year. There's no way we'll be going now, regardless of advice. We are insured, but unless FO advise no travel they won't pay out. Many will be in the same situation.

Michelleoftheresistance · 13/03/2020 16:36

The WHO have been liaising directly with all affected govts and advising, plus have been stating very clearly from Monday that they did not agree with actions such as the UK has chosen, has repeatedly urged all countries to actively test, isolate, contain, to socially isolate, and has used words such as 'immoral' and 'abandonment' when talking about actions such as the UK has chosen. They've done all but name and shame.

But Boris Knows Best.

The WHO must be despairing. They know exactly what the likely consequences will look like.

woodencoffeetable · 13/03/2020 16:36

I wish the FO would advise no travel to affected areas.

problem is, all areas are affected. some more, some less. except maybe tristan da cunha

halcyondays · 13/03/2020 16:37

When even Trump is declaring a national emergency and Boris is still saying sing Happy birthday I honestly despair.

Michelleoftheresistance · 13/03/2020 16:38

I wish the FO would advise no travel to affected areas.

I suspect it won't be long before the FO won't need to, because the rest of the world is frantically trying to contain and reduce the virus from their populations. They are not going to welcome Brits for much longer with Boris's policy of God Alone Knows Who's Infected, Go Spread It Around. We're going to be international pariahs.

Carlislemumof4 · 13/03/2020 16:38

@theskyispurple DH has worked from home for years, we've made it work though still drive each other a little nuts sometimesWink

Definitely yes to his own space, in our little house DH has a desk in the corner of our bedroom by the window. Yes to headphones, children know not to interrupt him and be considerate of when he's on a phone call etc, keeping quietly occupied elsewhere in the house. At the same time he's had to relax a bit from the early days when he would speak to me like a work colleague during office hoursGrin

He's quite disciplined with set hours he works, takes an hours lunch break with us all, finishes at same time each evening to spend time with DCs while I make tea. Tends to do a bit more work after they're in bed.

FacingtheAbess · 13/03/2020 16:41

Halcyon, it would be hilarious if it wasn't so very serious.

fedup21 · 13/03/2020 16:43

The WHO must be despairing. They know exactly what the likely consequences will look like.

If the WHO strongly disagree with the UK’s plan-is it likely they will be able to do something about it?

Quartz2208 · 13/03/2020 16:43

Trump surely must be danger of getting it and needs to be tested

Kuponut · 13/03/2020 16:44

I've put my foot down and told DH he IS taking up the offer of working from home next week now!

FacingtheAbess · 13/03/2020 16:45

Who should be calling UK out directly.

Saying its not enough and no peak will be flat because not enough people will isolate and people are scared.

If who did it directly it would be front page news and that would put astounding pressure on the gov

SemiSkimmedMilk · 13/03/2020 16:45

I think we knew about 10% of patients needed ICU care from China- so these are not new numbers, but is interesting to see what that looks like in a Western, developed country

I thought the figures from China had been 10% hospitalised and a smaller proportion needing ICU not 10# ICU.

Dramalamaindeed · 13/03/2020 16:45

I’m so angry that our government is seeing this as a fast and easy way to eradicate our vulnerable and most expensive citizens.

FacingtheAbess · 13/03/2020 16:46

I'd also like to know what international Press is saying about us
