Iceland store declares it won't accept money that's been in customers' 'mouths, bras or shoes' due to coronavirus fears

Huh? So if I roll it up and shove it up my fanny, that's OK?

And how do they think they'd know?

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 13/03/2020 15:06

Also, what is the point of subjecting the UK to a mass experiment, whilst doing so little testing there is no real data to compare the result to that of other countries that appear to have a more robust response?

The point is that Johnson is subjecting the UK to a mass experiment / exercise in eugenics (choose your preferred motive)

So they don't want proper testing so that there's no real data to compare the result to other countries with a more robust (and dare I say transparently evidence based) approach

Though I think they'll probably struggle to cover up the scale of additional deaths here even if they suppress the actual numbers by not recording as COVID deaths.

Saucery · 13/03/2020 15:07

If they've had it so mild that "they don't know they've had it" or simply experienced generic symptoms, without widespread testing how would that person that they're safe to return to normal life, confident that any further sniffles they develop are not COVID?

I agree, Elements. I would love the weird hot, chesty thing I had a few weeks ago to have been Covid19. It wasn’t as bad as flu but it was worse than a cold. If I had proven antibodies then I could happily volunteer for stuff at work, in the community......
But without confirmation I’ve had it and even that immunity is possible (and that getting it twice doesn’t make serious illness or death more likely) then I’m reluctant to do more than the standard for fear of getting it myself and passing it on to people.

FusspotsMum · 13/03/2020 15:07

While that all sounds like a nice thing in theory to achieve the antibodies and the herd immunity effect... If they are expecting our families to serve as human firebreaks in their big plan, then I would like to be fully convinced that they are doing all they can to test people, conduct the relevant research into how long these antibodies are seen to last for, and share all with the public so we can see for ourselves our chances of reinfection after x amount of time with the same or a mutated strain.

Till they can provide us with the studies on British or other populations to back this up they are being negligent by allowing spread to continue with no lockdown. I mean even the people signing up to test their vaccines are allowed to read something first and sign on the line first and get 3k for it!

Couple fly home from Italy with coronavirus.
Did they fly out knowing about the crisis I wonder?

Does anyone think they should have had a separate covid hotline?.. Crazy having all usual illness going through sameness thing

Saucery · 13/03/2020 15:14

FusspotsMum exactly! There is an enormous gap of knowledge we’re being expected just to nod along with.
I don’t expect the science to be pretty or reassuring but I do expect to know what I’m being asked to go along with.

Remember the 208 increase is with practically no testing any more even of NHS staff exposed to coronavirus cases. They will only test us if we are hospital inpatients ourselves.

To hell with behavioural science.

Been lurking on these threads for a while. Thanks to all regular posters for the information. For what it's worth the poster who posted some reasons for testing I feel the same and I almost written the same reasons word for word on my local FB page where there are 2 definite camps.
1.get over it we will cope, don't panic, just flu

  1. People who genuinely want to do the best to minimise spreading and support our most vulnerable.

Yes exactly.

We are one big "chicken pox party" experiment.
I'm a secondary teacher stuck in a classroom with 5 different lots of 30+ students every day for an hour at a time.
I personally think the government is recklessly endangering staff such as myself. Secondary school pupils don't need childcare and we are exposed to about 300 students for hours every week.

Totally agree as 100 students just bumped past me in the corridors as I go home to my 72 year old parents. I could cry.

Just out of college and catching up.
Was there a cobra meeting today? Has anything changed apart from there being more known cases?

I'm glad it's Friday and we can hibernate for the weekend.

Lots of people seem worried or angry about their holiday being cancelled. I understand that disappointment but it seems so self centred.

Some people who recover from the coronavirus might be left with '20 to 30%' less lung function, and gasping for breath when they walk quickly, Hong Kong doctors said

Liveinside or RedLentil what about Spironolactone? That's not an ACE inhibitor is it, so is it a better alternative?

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 13/03/2020 15:29

Jane can you speak to the unions? Strike maybe? Agree with you - recklessly endangering your health. There could be other solutions for childcare for key workers & if key worker kids are in with 500 other kids in crowded spaces they're more likely to pick it up and infect key worker parents who will then be sick and unable to work.
