20-25% reduction at peak - stay at home symptoms
25% whole household isolsation

20-30% reduction in death by getting elderly to stay at home.... BUT BUT BUT - Chris Whitty just said that's not happening yet

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 17:25

@Kuponut Only if it's new/recent.

I'm not sure exactly what is meant by a continuous cough. It is vague.

ozzzma · 12/03/2020 17:25

Good questions so far, but someone needs to specifically ask him WHY we are taking different measures than other countries. We are guided by the science? Is that a different science to Italy then?

HasaDigaEebowai · 12/03/2020 17:26

I won't self isolate for a cough alone.

That's an appalling thing to say.

kenandbarbie · 12/03/2020 17:26

This is laughable. I'm surprised they don't have a big pointy stick for the graphs and boffins in white coats and glasses.

Basically they've said stay at home if you're sick and don't go on cruises. Because they don't trust the public to follow rules of school closures and no events for very long.

Serious lack of leadership.

kirinm · 12/03/2020 17:26

Can someone tell me what Laura K said? I'm not watching.

Fears that up to 10,000 may already be infected with #coronavirus as delay phase begins

I don't trust the government advice one bit. I am limiting my social contact as much as possible. We have to take care of ourselves as far as we can. There's nothing else we can do.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/03/2020 17:27

HasaDigaEebowai

Why is it appalling? I wake in the morning, cough a little. Go out and about. No coughing. Come home, have a little cough some more.

Why on earth would I isolate for that?

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 17:27

Again, where is he getting the 1% or less from? I am not convinced there is evidence to support this at all.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 12/03/2020 17:27

Mortatlity rate 1% ..... really?

OK we're reducing the mortality rate by not testing so we can claim masses more people are infected than are.

GalOopNorth · 12/03/2020 17:28

Top number for deaths is 80% infected.

Mortality rate - they think 1%. WHO say 3.5%

That is .... a lot (no calculator)

Alwaysreadyforbed · 12/03/2020 17:28

Love how posters who are dismissing the experts because they know better. Italy have shutdown and they’re still getting thousands a day. Shutting things down doesn’t work except to crash the economy. It’s a balancing act and they’re getting it right imo

Fannia · 12/03/2020 17:28

Delay phase obviously means delay taking any action.

SistemaAddict · 12/03/2020 17:29

I wonder how many people will call in sick tomorrow?

CKoRn · 12/03/2020 17:29

@SansaSnark What do you mean?

NannyPear · 12/03/2020 17:29

Sounds reasonable to me too alwaysreadyforbed. How long does everyone on here want the country shut down for? And does everyone think that's realistic?

Butternutbrownie · 12/03/2020 17:29

If they've actually admitted to there maybe being 10000 cases then it is probably more like 100000.

HasaDigaEebowai · 12/03/2020 17:30

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz because that's the official guidance and you may be infecting vulnerable people. What a selfish approach to take.

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 17:30

We expect the NHS to be exceptionally busy in the coming days and weeks. If you have serious symptoms that you cannot manage at home or persist longer than 7 days, please go to NHS 111 online, or call 111 if you cannot go online. #Coronavirus #COVID19

Or it will be by the time they've pulled their finger out of their 'led by science' arse.

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 17:30

@YoursTunbridgeWells

I agree.

I also feel that they need to be really clear on what they mean about coughing- they were pretty clear about the temperature.

The experts they've chosen. Who don't say the same as most international experts. That's what I'm saying, these 'experts' are playing verbal games to try and justify the governments lack of action. There is a delay on cases, shutdown does work.
