God help us

BretonKitten · 12/03/2020 17:42

I just realised why the press conference was 4.30- the London Stock Exchange closes then.

Think it’s time for all governments to get their heads together and freeze trading or similar.

Wannabangbang · 12/03/2020 17:43

Lol yeh course i am because i think humanity is worth something and some rich toff who's supposed to be in charge lets this carry on. Its a shambles and if you cant see it you will in week

IrmaFayLear · 12/03/2020 17:43

That is nasty, Wannabangbang. And, may I point out, that you will lose another parent. Not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe in 20 years' time. But parents die. That's what happens to human beings. We are not immortal, as you don't seem to have grasped.

CKoRn · 12/03/2020 17:44

Actually, the statistics say different - the majority of cases get worse (to the point of needing hospitalisation) during the third week. So even the 14 day recommendation isn't enough either...

Bearbehind · 12/03/2020 17:44

Dh and ds are both vulnerable and at risk. Of course the numbers matter to me. Are they more likely to catch it if the number is at 10000 or 100000?

But the point is they may have already had it or they may have been widely exposed to it and not had it if the numbers are actually higher than published

I honestly don’t understand why high numbers are a bad thing if the mortality rates remain low

There’s no point in panicking about this because it can’t be stopped, only managed

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 17:45

Lots of arse-licking going on on the BBC at the moment, should they not be question this a bit more?

MurrayTheMonk · 12/03/2020 17:46

Yes, why aren't they all asking the question everyone else is? Ie why are we the only ones doing nothing?

Wannabangbang · 12/03/2020 17:46

They aren't even testing anymore unless you are admitted to hospital. So figures will now be incorrect.

What ever, im nasty so is he and on a massive scale

ballsdeep · 12/03/2020 17:46

What a crock of shite. Shane on you boris

Bearbehind · 12/03/2020 17:47

I think you have confused two issues there- the 7 days is because that is when people are apparently most infectious, although it is also true that after 7 days is when people start to develop more serious symptoms.

I’m not sure what you think I have confused sansa

That’s what I said, after 7 days it goes one way or the other

And most people are experiencing mild symptoms and are over, or at least getting much better, it in 7 days

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 17:47

@CKoRn could share where you got the 3rd week progression from please? We discussed this on the thread last night and everything we could turn up suggested after one week, you start to deteriorate (or start to get better over the course of another week).

quiteathome · 12/03/2020 17:48

I wish I felt confident in our government, however I don't.

I now feel jittery and nervous and I just have to keep going as normal.

SansaSnark · 12/03/2020 17:48

@Bearbehind Yes, but that's not why the isolation for symptoms is 7 days. It's because the UK government believes the first 7 days is the most infectious period- that's a separate issue.

eeeyoresmiles · 12/03/2020 17:48

Are we giving up on contract tracing then? I thought the WHO said that was crucial and China kept going with that throughout?

Rocketmam · 12/03/2020 17:48

@bearbehind

Ds struggles to breath on a good day, and a common cold nearly killed my DH.

Pretty sure we'd notice if they got CV.

Wannabangbang · 12/03/2020 17:48

And just how can you stay isolated with a cold when your children have to be taken to school. Seriously this man isn't from the same planet

BretonKitten · 12/03/2020 17:49

@SansaSnark
BBC are scared the licence fee will be scrapped.

@MurrayTheMonk
Other journos are scared that if they don’t behave Boris will scrap Downing Street press questions like Trump scrapped White House ones.

Wannabangbang · 12/03/2020 17:49

And yes Irmavay i very much no that but my mother happens to immunosuppressive and is asthmatic and had phneumonia in the past 5 years

Bearbehind · 12/03/2020 17:50

Fair enough sansa

My point that it goes one way or the other after 7 days is the main one I was making, in response to posters saying our numbers were lower because the virus hadn’t developed in people who only recently caught it

Wannabangbang · 12/03/2020 17:50

Always though Trump was bad enough but even he is doing whats right by his country unlike our priminister.

Banana0pancakes · 12/03/2020 17:51

I can't say I'm surprised, I think his intention was clear after he went on This Morning and said one option is to 'take it on the chin' and 'let it move through the population'. Read: protect the economy

HairyFloppins · 12/03/2020 17:51

Why is he so sure of the 1% death rate? That's still too bloody high!!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 12/03/2020 17:51

Italy’s new cases 2000+ and 189 new deaths
