Stay at home for one week if you’ve a cold (even though all evidence is that incubation is two weeks)

People over 70 don’t go on cruises.

WHAT!!!

134 new cases in a day and no action. 13 EU countries have closed all schools, another 11 partial closures but apparently no action needed in Uk.

Jesus.

@EerieSilence I agree.

Tighnabruaich · 12/03/2020 18:48

Mass gatherings now banned in Scotland.

DoubleAction · 12/03/2020 18:48

What do you think we can do to stop that Cam77? Unless we all stay in isolation forever?

Cam77 · 12/03/2020 18:48

So in China the virus affected, say, 0.01% of the population (thats doubling the official figure). The British plan is to let it affect about 80%.
Great. Just great. Well done everyone who voted Tory.

Cam77 · 12/03/2020 18:49

@DoubleAction
see above

Discobar · 12/03/2020 18:49

@theflushedzebra - appears not. Rushing in, this is a playing the long game I guess

Goldencurtain · 12/03/2020 18:49

Did any of you watch the conference? The scientists explained the reasoning clearly and compellingly.

Discobar · 12/03/2020 18:50

@cam77 the other parties have been involved in this. Are they kicking off? No

katewhinesalot · 12/03/2020 18:50

Schools are still being prepared to close imminently. A few more days should be enough for all people to realise the severity of the situation. They all don't yet.

vera99 · 12/03/2020 18:51

When this savage and brutal crisis is over like the aftermath of WW2 the people will be crying out for socialism red in tooth and claw. I fear our deaths are going to equal that of WW2 but happening in 5 months rather than 5 years.

World War II deaths449,700

Cam77 · 12/03/2020 18:51

We might not beat it completely with a 2/3 month shutdown, so lets not even try

DoubleAction · 12/03/2020 18:51

The virus isn't finished in China, they've got to get back to normal yet and who knows what will happen then?

No, they've all just seen posts on Twatter and Facecloth and think they know best!

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2020 18:52

Has China closed its borders? What’s stopping it coming back in

Yes - and I want to know why our govt is not acting in the same way as the other European countries?

Are we thinking our govt's plan to just let everyone get it now is the best plan, based on some sort of Superior British Science.

daffodilsandblossom · 12/03/2020 18:53

It makes complete sense to me. COVID-19 is going to be an issue for the World for months. Not days, not weeks but months. I don't know about you but I am already getting sick of washing my hands, they are sore and it is tedious washing them many, many times each day for 20 seconds. Washing hands is such a simple practice and yet already I am feeling fatigue from it. Imagine how much fatigue people will have at being forced to stay in their homes and their children not be in school for months? MONTHS.

People will go stir crazy. Then when they start to get bored of it, they will leave their homes just when the disease is at its peak.

The only thing I think is wrong is I think people who are vulnerable or who have vulnerable family members should be allowed to make their own decisions. I will not go to busy, crowded places anymore.

Discobar · 12/03/2020 18:53

@cam77 clearly you are in panic mode. Its about limiting the impact on the NHS at the peak. It's a simple as that

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2020 18:53

Lol at Twatter etc

There’s many who have watched it and agree with it

DoubleAction · 12/03/2020 18:54

I saw a very sensible Labour MP discussing it all at lunchtime who was saying how pleased he was with the cross party working on this. In fact he came across so well, I looked him up. Wes Streeting, young but not quite as young as he looks.

LuxLFC · 12/03/2020 18:54

Most of the emphasis was on the elderly. They say "the elderly and ill" which makes it sound like 1 group but they say nothing about younger people with existing respiratory problems, compromised immunity etc. I just feel there should be more advice/clarity on the vulnerable groups.

This

bananabob · 12/03/2020 18:55

@IStressheadI I'm exactly the same, suffer from anxiety which is going off the scale at the moment, I have asthma and my mum has cancer which is making me even more scared I'm also worried about the baby. I'm also on maternity leave so I'm not leaving the house for anything and getting shopping delivered. I have a dh and ds who are going out to work and school everyday though which is driving me mad. Considering taking ds out of school but nothing I can do about dh.

Cam77 · 12/03/2020 18:56

@daffodilsandblossom
You don't want to wash your hands, so lets just let the majority of the population catch a virus that will see 10% of them need intensive care?

DoubleAction · 12/03/2020 18:56

"Yes - and I want to know why our govt is not acting in the same way as the other European countries?".

If you saw the press conference and listened, they explained why .

larrygrylls · 12/03/2020 18:58

Peak in 7 weeks and doubling every 5 days. Are they expecting 100,000 daily new cases at the peak?! As 2^10 is 1,024 and we had over 100 new cases today....
