Cobra meeting? Schools

tearsandtiaras · 12/03/2020 14:33

Has anyone heard anything about the results of the COBRA meeting yet?

Or news on schools closing?

Will they close universities too?

No school closures on sky news now

bemoreeverything · 12/03/2020 15:39

Maybe @7to25 mums, best friends, husband was at the cobra meeting

I doubt it. Reading between the lines it is unlikely.

AlternativePerspective · 12/03/2020 15:40

And I can see the reasoning for not closing schools yet.

And ten deaths out of a UK population of 60 million is negligible, and they have all been elderly with underlying health conditions.

And let’s be honest here, once there is a vaccine, there will still be deaths from the virus, just like there still are from the flu every year.Hundreds of thousands of them worldwide.

BackInTime · 12/03/2020 15:42

DCs said teachers have been asking them about their access to computers at home today and to make sure that all their logins fit school portals are working

MysweetAudrina · 12/03/2020 15:42

All schools, colleges and childcare are being shut down on the Island of Ireland from today for 2 weeks.

Discobar · 12/03/2020 15:42

The source is- its live now on the press conference

DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/03/2020 15:43

Maybe 7to25 is Boris!

ihaveaquestionplease · 12/03/2020 15:44

@Discobar link?

ihaveaquestionplease · 12/03/2020 15:44

@MysweetAudrina I thought it was only ROI?

ColaFreezePop · 12/03/2020 15:44

Not closing in the UK.

In Scotland school trips should be cancelled, gatherings of 500 banned from Monday and if you are ill from Friday you should self-isolate for 7 days.

MillieMoodle · 12/03/2020 15:45

Sturgeon is advising against gatherings of more than 500 people but schools in Scotland to remain open for the time being.

ColaFreezePop · 12/03/2020 15:46

@BackInTime they should have started doing this on Wednesday. By Friday teachers need to have prepared work for children to do if school is closed.

MysweetAudrina · 12/03/2020 15:47

@ihaveaquestionplease I have just seen that it was a hoax post. It was on my fb feed earlier and it looked like it was from the Education Authority but when I went back to check it there someone said it was a hoax post. Sorry about that. ROI definitely closed.

ihaveaquestionplease · 12/03/2020 15:47

HAS ANYONE GOT A LINK TO THE OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT ADVICE ?

Sorry for shouting but people keep saying things as fact but I can't find anything online

MillieMoodle · 12/03/2020 15:49

@ihaveaquestionplease from what I can work out from Sky News, the COBRA meeting is ongoing but Sturgeon has made an announcement regarding Scotland.

Pilot12 · 12/03/2020 15:49

Sky are saying there's going to be an announcement at 4.45pm. I don't think Nicola would be allowed to mention anything major like school closures ahead of Boris' speech.

ihaveaquestionplease · 12/03/2020 15:50

Ok so this is still all speculation

ihaveaquestionplease · 12/03/2020 15:50

@MillieMoodle but where is the link for NS announcement? I can't find a thing

michaelbaubles · 12/03/2020 15:51

By Friday teachers need to have prepared work for children to do if school is closed."

But we are under the direction of our headteachers; this is not the responsibility of individual teachers to do off their own bats. Thus far many teachers have not been advised to do this, and as it's substantially extra work will not do so unless it's definitely necessary. I would imagine that most teachers, like me, are thinking to prepare work that is easy to do from home, but I've not been told to do that. This faffing about actually prevents people being prepared as you're not going to plan school work AND remote work.

AvocadoPrime · 12/03/2020 15:53

My DS has SEN and his unit has never set homework. Today he got sent home with a big pack of work which is a 'homework challenge'. Nothing has been mentioned about CV but wondering if that's what its about as there is lots of work and says to encourage to complete work up to easter holidays.

Dandelion1993 · 12/03/2020 15:54

I just think those who are vulnerable should eb given the option to stay at home but don't see the need for the fit and healthy to stop everything

PerfectParrot · 12/03/2020 15:54

I don't think Nicola would be allowed to mention anything major like school closures ahead of Boris' speech.

Schools are a devolved issue though, so I'm not convinced Boris has the power to stop Nicola saying anything she wants about schools in Scotland.

@littlepeaegg it's in the online newspapers

CloudyVanilla · 12/03/2020 15:59

Is anyone else feeling incredibly frustrated? We don't seem to be taking this anywhere near as seriously as other countries. I feel really anxious now that we will start to see a dramatic rise in cases
