@charlietangobanana
My family is in self enforced isolation too
Its like people with illnesses have been ignored and I don't feel anything is being done to keep us safe.
All I can do is stay home.

Morning all.

Absolutely in a panic as they appear to be gearing up to close the schools with many outlets such as the BBC saying we will be moving into the next phase today. I was told by our MD that it would be managed and a laptop would be provided for me to work from home. I asked my boss/our GM today who said I couldn't WFH - my job is office based (despite the fact i could be contacted/and contact people on my phone and would just need a laptop) and i would need to arrange childcare. There is only myself and my husband who works in retail and works 8-3 daily. There is my parents but my mum herself has COPD and I would be worried about my son passing anything to her.

HR have said that if and when the time comes a communication will be issued but that if we need to be off for childcare, we would need to take it as unpaid or as annual leave. I only have 5.5 days left for the year ('til Dec).

Panicking as we can't afford to take unpaid leave. And I have no hols.

@fedup I am not ‘putting the blame on teachers’! For what? Coronavirus?? But come ON, if your workplace has run out of soap and suppliers aren’t due/don’t have any, go to the bloody shop and get some! Or as others have suggested, ask parents. Surely, we can apply some common sense/help ourselves a bit

'This outbreak can still be controlled.'

A spokesperson for @WHO says countries can still "contain" #COVID19 but must be willing to adopt a "mix of measures", including social-distancing when necessary.

would That's depressing, but the govt needs to be giving a much clearer message about distance

I'm in Germany and we are still going to gym, cafes, shops etc, but noticeably spreading out

The authorities here so far don't want to shut down small gatherings like those, but has made it clear about social distancing, not just handwashing

  • but I have never before seen such dedicated washing in the loos !

You haven’t thought this through. Schools have hundreds of children. They use a lot of soap.

Adult social care will be at the front line of our response to #COVID19. We are working across government, with councils and care providers to make sure the social care sector is prepared - and we will be publishing updated guidance this week.

@gal, 4 bars of soap for a pound. Each teacher spends £2= 4 bars of soap per teacher/staff. How many staff at a school? 50? =400 bars of soap. Should keep you going until next delivery

OR 1000 students each bring a bar of soap= 1000 bars of soap

Or both

Or do nothing and have no soap. That’s just actually stupid.

I work in an organisation of 10000 people. We also use a lot of soap

Juancornetto to be clear it's not that the government WANT us to get it. They just expect we will.

Right so why is alloutoffucks or whatever her name is constantly posting that the government actually wants us all to catch it, it’s “the plan” etc. without challenge from the other regular posters on here? Maybe they’re mostly too busy posting their own scare stories and dodgy links. I agree with PP these threads were great initially, but now it’s all scaremongering and politics.

halcyondays · 12/03/2020 10:06

When my dds were in primary, parents were sometimes asked to send in tissues and hand gel.

I don’t think schools should be staying open if they can’t maintain basic hygiene in the middle of a pandemic.

WouldShouldCould · 12/03/2020 10:06

I believe that that audio, imagine the amount of people who yearly get flu immunizations, for mild asthma, for obesity, for high blood pressure, because they pay for it privately as they know flu wipes them out, because they work for the health service so get it anyway. There is a massive percentage of the u65 population that would be hospitalized with regular flu, they just aren't because of vaccines.

We have our first official case here in Reading.
I think school are about to close, or are expecting COBRA to tell them to, sent an email this morning asking us all to double check our contact details in case the school closes in the middle of the day, also telling us to ensure we are on SIMs and our children get their Online learning details and school outlook email details today.

I saw someone earlier make a great point on twitter. We have structured school holidays, why not close school now until the end of the Easter holidays, and then take some weeks off the 6 week holiday? I know that is difficult for those with childcare issues but it's a time to get together in communities and try our best to help out frontline pharmacy, NHS and other vital staff.

@kuponut I hope she feels better soon. My dd is now 13 but when she was 3 we had similar with pneumonia. Took 3 doctors to take me seriously as they just kept saying was a virus. Then we had a dash to hospital and she was put on a drip and thankfully stabilised. I home school her anyway but have my gs everyday after school. So we open to germs!
