Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

I agree @BigChocFrenzy. Wet markets, whilst I appreciate are a cultural thing, should be a thing of the past.

SpencerReidsMistress · 11/03/2020 13:36

@onalongsabbatical haha same here.

Number12 · 11/03/2020 13:36

*BBC news addressing the toilet roll thing. They have gone to cushelle to show us they make five million rolls a day.

Haha toilet paper manufacturers will be rolling in it...money that is not shit wink*

People might be bulk buying now but we aren't using any more than we normally would because of corona so their demand will drop off again at some point. Throughout their financial year their figures will remain the same just that demand increased in one quarter.

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 13:37

So, to clarify, we were at 373 cases yesterday, witha total of 6 UK deaths as was released at 2.20pm yesterday with figures from 9am yesterday.

I know my council was not on the list yesterday but we have been informed by the local paper that there is 1 case where I live - well, the council area which is enormous.

Sockwomble · 11/03/2020 13:37

Have had a message from my GP surgery. No one is to go to the surgery for any reason if they have any symptoms of a virus. Instead phone for advice. I wonder how many will ignore that.

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 13:38

The list of councils is 24 hours behind

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 13:40

@ofwarren Oh yes, I recall now... so it won't show until today but could have been in yesterday's numbers?

Horehound · 11/03/2020 13:40

Oh yes that's true @Number12

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 13:42

Yeah, you would assume the one you found out about today, would be on tomorrows council update

Horehound · 11/03/2020 13:43

So hang on I thought it was up to 80% of people could get coronavirus in the UK but I'm pretty sure Ian blackford said at PMQs that up to 80,000 people will get...

Now I could have easily misheard and I have baby brain but did anyone else catch what he said?

FollowingNow · 11/03/2020 13:43

Didn't realise there was already another thread. they move so fast.

suspended · 11/03/2020 13:45

our office had a floor closed a few days back as someone came back from italy then got ill. No result yet.

It's since reopened but we now have 6 people off with similar symptoms (temp, cough etc) they have called 111 who won't give them a test as they havent been near anyone positive. Our office wont close until we get a positive result. To me, this seems like madness. what should I do?

Saucery · 11/03/2020 13:45

Sockwomble it’s ludicrous isn’t it. The advice will consist of ‘have you been to blah blah/direct contact with blah blah blah’ and you’ll be told to stay at home anyway. I’m not sure I would be prepared to do that if my child was ill tbh.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 11/03/2020 13:46

Just sent 2 bottles of handgel to dd at uni (London) as she can't get it anywhere.
Did a top up shop this morning at Sainsbos. Lots of empty shelves.

DS at secondary school. Planning on keeping him off from Monday next week - hopefully govt will announce school closures by then.

Supposed to be going to the Canaries at Easter - fully expecting it to be cancelled.

It still seems surreal tbh.

Friend came home from Italy yesterday. No advice at all given when they landed. They are self isolating at home, but will everyone else on their flight be doing the same ?

Eeyoresstickhouse · 11/03/2020 13:49

Does anyone else worry what the announcement by Hancock will be tonight? It could just be like a party political broadcast of we are doing all we can an make sure you wash your hands while singing bloody happy birthday, or, it could be we are closing down schools etc.. and wanted to tell you all when the majority of you are at home and all settled in.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 13:51

Lots of spending in that budget. Listening on R4

SistemaAddict · 11/03/2020 13:52

It does seem an odd time. I have a very suspicious mind though!

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 13:52

Im only worried that the statement is just going to be the same as before. Wash you hands and that's it.

Alone07 · 11/03/2020 13:52

From what I read @Eeyoresstickhouse the announcement is about Coronavirus.

Laniakea · 11/03/2020 13:52

just to say that alcohol gel recommended by GPwife (thank you btw) arrived this morning. I've decanted lots of it into 1kg Nutella jars (I have an embarrassing number of them) to give to DD1, my parents, my sister & my brother in law to decant into pump bottles (primark sell them for about £1 a pack, found in the makeup section). I've done bottles for dh's office & for the car. Obviously not a replacement for soap & water but sometimes you can't get to a sink.

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 13:53

*it could be we are closing down schools etc.. and wanted to tell you all when the majority of you are at home and all settled in. I suspect it is this...

Nononoandno · 11/03/2020 13:54

FFS just found out my 83 year old mother (just getting over lung clots) has taken the bus to pay the rest of her balance on a holiday in May when it wasn’t due till the end April 👍🤔

Rocketmam · 11/03/2020 13:54

I'm also more worried that the statement will be nothing really.

Maybe they'll update the current advuce to: sing happy birthday three times, have a lovely cuppa and check out the cheap cruise prices.
