Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

I am a member of the P&O cruises group on Facebook and nothing will stop them. I joined the group for pure entertainment value. You are not allowed to say one negative thing about P&O.

They are all getting excited about the low prices. Selfish idiots.

hankyspanky · 11/03/2020 00:05

@usernameishistory Yes, petrol at Asda is now at the lowest price its been, since I think 2007.

So glad I filled up last week when it wasn't reduced Hmm

"They are all getting excited about the low prices."

Time for all governments to announce that all the cruising CFs who get CV-19,
or have to be quarantined because someone else has it,
must pay for it all - quarantine, medical expenses, accommodation, flights home etc

  • and there will be seizure of their houses, cars, assets to sell, to pay for it all

In a couple of weeks time everyone upset and anxious about the contents of this thread will probably be seeing the exact same things on their TV.

What are people going to do? Shout at the TV for not being sensitive or nice about the situation.

I suffer from very bad anxiety myself. I know what it feels like.

I also know that there isn't any escaping from this and everyone is going to have to cope with their anxiety because they will have no choice but to. It serves no purpose to pussy foot around the brutal harsh reality.

I am sorry you suffer from bad anxiety.

There is no escaping the reality of what is to come, you're right there.

However, there is always a choice to be compassionate when delivering bad news to people who are most likely to have poor outcomes if infected with covid 19.

You're right that the media won't mince their words. Presenting very serious events in as awful a way as possible is actually going to be spectacularly unhelpful for people who panic, because you can't scare people into behaving in their best interests when it comes to health. Traumatised people shut down and think well there's no point and make poorer decisions about everything including their basic safety.

Everyone needs to be taking this seriously, and some healthy fear is grimly appropriate and really beneficial - but not frenzied fear, calculated to cause as much upset as possible.

We must not underestimate the need for hope and compassion in communications about the pandemic.

HeIenaDove · 11/03/2020 00:30

Those cruisers are fucking idiotic.

And i bet they would be the first to moan about a zero hours contract worker who cant afford to self isolate or some poor fucker who breaks quarantine to top up a key meter, while not being too bothered about infecting others when coming back from their jollies at sea.

Just caught up and definitely read Macrons penis! Thing is I didnt even flinch and kept reading the thread 😱

Flaxmeadow · 11/03/2020 01:26

I really wish people would stop calling others names, eg idiots or dim. It isnt helpful.

The public information from the NHS etc on this has been terrible so far. It's no wonder people are panic buying, or confused about what to do or where to go if they have symptoms

Galleyfm · 11/03/2020 01:36

Does anyone know if there is/was a preppers 13 thread please? I can't see one and it seems strange that there isn't one.

user1471439240 · 11/03/2020 01:39

What is more likely? Nadine Dorries being so unlucky to contact the virus from one of the 380 current cases out of 70 million people or that the country is infected with tens of thousands of cases?

Newjez · 11/03/2020 05:29

Well... Nadine dorries was a health minister, so, if she hadn't had direct contact with a patient, it's not unreasonable that she would have had contact with a medical person who had. If any political figures were going to get cv19, you would think it would be health minister.
I think we have more cases than have been tested. But not much more. I don't think we are Italy. But we do need to test more and randomly to find outbreaks going forward.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 11/03/2020 05:45

That was my thought. She will have had countless meetings with senior doctors who will have met frontline junior medical staff.

It’s hard to imagine that we won’t follow Italy’s trajectory but the “experts” seem to know best.

As a simple moronic lawyer, I would be trying to delay beyond flu season now myself

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 05:49

They’ve tested around 25000 people and 380 positive so far so fairly unlikely missing these huge amounts.

However if the death rate is as it is what would you prefer? 6 have died but tens of thousands have it? We’d have a good low death rate then.

Charlesthekingcavalier · 11/03/2020 06:02

When Boris visited the flood victims, he dint know Nadine had the virus. Nadine didn’t either. So please don’t insinuate that he’s went up there knowing and please don’t say that’s not what you meant because it is. Sick of the left making this political

LittleRen · 11/03/2020 06:10

Coronavirus: Health minister Nadine Dorries tests positive www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51827356

Can’t see anyone has posted this, sorry if it’s a duplicate

LittleRen · 11/03/2020 06:11

Sorry for some reason couldn’t see latest posts about Nadine Blush

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 06:13

How did Nadine get tested given community cases currently aren’t tested (unless they have had contact with known cases or have travelled to high risk areas- reports state she had none)? Why is it different if you’re an MP? Why are we not asking if testing has been adequate? Clearly it’s in the community but we are not testing so we don’t know the real covid figures! the testing criteria is limited to the above because we don’t (or didn’t) have capacity. PHE have now said they are expanding testing. We keep hearing how we are prepared etc. I don’t understand how’s these questions aren’t being asked. Why has it taken so long.

Charlesthekingcavalier · 11/03/2020 06:14

It’s different because she’s the health minister. Obviously Hmm

Delatron · 11/03/2020 06:15

My first thought was how was she tested if she didn’t fit their strict criteria...
