Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

We are continually fobbed off with party lines and yet people’s lives are at significant risk. I’m so frustrated by the lack of response and nobody asking if this is the correct way forward

MmeAlice · 11/03/2020 06:22

Apoloies if this has been posted before, but it has only just appeared on the Danish news site DR nyheder (Danish Radio News) and shows videos taken in secret of the measure taken by China to contain the outbreak, The content is upsetting. The citizen journalist is Fang Bin fang bin

The BBC link I posted says that the tests will increase to 10000 a day from 1500

happymumof22019 · 11/03/2020 06:34

Given the restricted testing criteria and the people who have tested positive while either seriously ill or dying and now Nadine Baggot I think there must be much more community transmission than they think and the figures are totally unreliable. Someone up thread said that the % of people testing positive suggests this isn’t the case but equally in recent days they seem to be testing less people and the proportion of positives is increasing. I don’t recall the exact figures but it seems to me that at least half the people where tested before community transfer started properly.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 06:39

I agree that if any MP is going to get it, the health minister is most likely, as they will be meeting doctors and so on. We know frontline healthcare workers are at risk.

I do think community testing needs to be stepped up, but there is a middle ground between us having more cases than currently detected and tens of thousands of cases.

I do think pressure is building on the government to introduce stronger measures.

usernameishistory · 11/03/2020 06:41

All will now be tested as a result of nadine, will put an end to BJ avoiding questions about his test status Hmm

Good for her shes over the worst in a few days, lets hope that continues.

Her tests came back quick. Is it Italy where tests are expiring before being processed Confused

Russia has 7 cases Confused

OP posts:
SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 06:41

I don't really see how we have the capacity to process 10,000 tests a day unless we are switching to blood testing, which may be less accurate.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 06:41

They are just talking about testing around 8000 a day rather than 1500 on R4.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 06:44

Because hospitals are now taking testing rather than doing it centrally are PHE..

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 06:44

Sorry for typos!

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 06:47

Turn around times were 5 days and will be 24 hours according to reports today. I just hope they expand testing for all possible community cases now...

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 06:47

That is a good change

ClashCityRocker · 11/03/2020 06:49

Arsenal vs man City match postponed.

Several of the arsenal players met with the olympiakus boss who's been diagnosed.

Story on BBC and other media.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 06:52

I think increased testing can only be a good thing. It seems like the country is alert to the idea we are currently missing cases - I think some will always be missed, but the more we can catch the better.

However, there is a guardian article (can't link as on mobile) which suggests 111 has been giving incorrect advice to people returning from Italy.

I wonder if there are people who should have been tested who have been turned away by 111 as well.

KenAdams · 11/03/2020 06:52

The scale of which people are cancelling events and forcing home working will surely mean the government will have to take drastic action and give further direction following today's COBRA meeting? Surely?!

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 06:52

That’s just for hospital cases. Looks like community cases still need to have symptoms and a epidemiological link (either travel to high risk area or contact of known case. Not certain though!

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 06:53

For @ValleyoftheHorses

usernameishistory · 11/03/2020 06:53

Were going to see a lot of people self-isolating, and a lot getting sick now, army of students being dubbed the royal care-force.

Behavioural team core to political approach on this.

Insights on R4 now

Hairyfairy01 · 11/03/2020 06:54

Has anybody else read the bbc news about cocooning care homes and them being staffed by the goodwill of volunteers? The government are suggesting students might like to be trained up during the Easter holidays. To me it demonstrates how out of touch the government is. Firstly, most care homes can't even pay enough staff to work in them, let alone get volunteers during a coronavirus outbreak. Secondly, those that do work in such places are highly skilled, think manual handling, being the first to recognise a deterioration in a resident, preventing falls, feeding a resident with a poor swallow, being able to calm a resident with dementia down, understanding a resident with very poor speech post stroke etc etc.To suggest that some student volunteers could quickly be trained up in a few weeks is very disrespectful to those that do such amazing work. Not to mention the need for dbs checks etc or will they just not bother?

ClashCityRocker · 11/03/2020 06:54

Budget today as well.

Maybe they will combine it with that?
