Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Thanks!

I was flamed a few weeks ago for saying the Olympics would not go ahead this year. This is a very significant sign though, a subtle hint that this will go on well into the autumn only to kick start again with the second wave.

Grin

Hap penis.

Wouldn't surprise me.

I really like this article apologies if I already posted it. My phone is playing up and its hard to scroll.

House of Lords will be decimated if it gets to them!

nellodee · 10/03/2020 23:23

Facingtheunknown - my rule of thumb is that any given time, we have at the very least 8x as many cases as we think we have. This is based on a very modest doubling rate of 5 days, and a very rough average of a fortnight to get poorly enough to warrant testing.

Unfortunately, knowing how many cases are undetected because they are too mild and asymptomatic is an almost unsolvable problem whilst you are in the thick of a pandemic, and still quite difficult to work out even months and years after the fact. That's why there is such a large range for the possible fatality rate of this virus.

I think you either have to slavishly follow government advice, or just make yourself an arbitrary figure like "I'm going to hide myself away once there are fifty cases in my authority". You will almost certainly have not chosen the most appropriate figure or time, but because of the unknowability of the asymptomatic cases, you cannot POSSIBLY choose the perfect time.

So just set yourself a guideline, and go with it.

And remember, there is only so much control we have over this situation. There is not a perfect decision that will certainly keep you and everyone you love safe. I was going to say "and nor is there a worst decision that will make you responsible for their demise" but if you take up a hobby of .... I don't know... bus seat tasting.... and force your family to join you, then any poor outcomes would probably be on you.

Quartz2208 · 10/03/2020 23:24

Wehttam I think you need to distinguish between how much this could completely change your life (and others) and how others will bounce back and forget it and some stay in the middle. People are different

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 23:26

@nellodee

I am going with the assumption that the Govt do in fact have knowledge and resources that I do not have, and that whilst they don't have me personally in mind when they make decisions, they are generally using the information they have to do the best they can for our society. So I am following their guidelines in the trust that when the time is right they will do whatever is necessary.

Maybe blind hope, but it is all I have.

Comenext · 10/03/2020 23:29

@VivaLeBeaver You must have read my mind. (Re: House of Lords)

Facingtheunkown · 10/03/2020 23:29

Maybe some press person can ask Macron at the next press conference

" President, who wipes your penis "

"Boris will you be self isolating after Nadine has caught Corona and Boris, do you have someone to wipe your penis like Macron? "

Trump will be soo jealous Grin he 'd be demanding the penis wiper position created , heads would roll....

"All these other guys get a penis wiper and me the big beautiful trump doesn't get one!!"

Facingtheunkown · 10/03/2020 23:32

ClientQueen · 10/03/2020 23:34

I'm concerned, not panicking. My condition is usually one that people undergoing chemo get. If you say to people oh it's from chemo, they generally understand and don't come near you if you're ill. But because mine isn't from chemo, I find people are a lot less careful probably because I look "well"
And people are idiotic. Old colleague sat next to me with tonsillitis and told me it wasn't contagious. I'm prone to it, went down with it 48hrs later. Random woman in the doctors sat there for ages then loudly announced she had chicken pox. Reception flew from behind the counter, shoved me outside and her into another room. But I mean... really?! Bloody chicken pox!
I try and rest so I'm well enough to work FT, but then people question why I don't do overtime Sad
Work understand if this gets worse, I won't be in work at all because I cannot risk it

Lycidas · 10/03/2020 23:37

@Wehttam

The virus being around doesn’t mean that there will be a permanent change in psyche. Even people in warzones with psychological trauma move on, albeit slowly.

I don’t have a little tube of sanitizer so have no problems giving it up. Searched in a couple of stores and couldn’t be arsed after that.
