Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

@BigChocFrenzy agreed blood pressure, liver, thyroid, chloestrol maybe diabetes and asthma. Don't about stuff like mental health reviews and other perhaps not-urgent reviews. The sort where you make an appointment every month or two.
For a period in early 2019 I took medication and I had to have a weekly blood test. Don't know if that sort of thing would be relaxed to fortnightly for example

nellodee · 10/03/2020 23:07

I did not mean to be patronising to all the people who understand exponential growth - I'm pretty sure that's why most are on this thread in the first place.

Personally I'm not using sanitiser, except at the gym where there is a notice requesting to use theirs

Just thorough handwashing with soap

Keep repeating emotive words like hysterical both in blaming others use of it, but then simultaneously using it yourself to aim at others doesn't move anything forward.

I don't mind listening to people's rage but your rage doesn't trump someone else's fear of dying in the face of the unknown.

Rage all you like, but please keep it respectful toward others who may be suffering what?... we don't know

In a couple of weeks time everyone upset and anxious about the contents of this thread will probably be seeing the exact same things on their TV.

What are people going to do? Shout at the TV for not being sensitive or nice about the situation.

I suffer from very bad anxiety myself. I know what it feels like.

I also know that there isn't any escaping from this and everyone is going to have to cope with their anxiety because they will have no choice but to. It serves no purpose to pussy foot around the brutal harsh reality.

I do not think my local a and e could cope with just a few more extra patients on a average weekend late night.

This article is from January about December www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51046616

Hospitals reported huge pressures in December, with one in five A&E patients waiting over four hours.

A key problem seems to have been a shortage of beds on wards.

Nearly 100,000 of the sickest patients were forced to spend over four hours on trolleys and in corridors after their time in A&E as beds could not be found.

Delays were also experienced by those brought in by ambulances.

One in six crews had to queue outside A&E units for more than 30 minutes, waiting to handover patients to hospital staff - the target is 15.

Postponing the Olympics would be sensible:

Millions of people coming from all over the world, mixing in huge crowds for weeks,
then returning to their own countries .....

Plus about 15,000 athletes from around the world

I am on this thread so people can translate these no for me, I am useless at Maths!

I wish someone could factor in all the cases we dont know about? educated guess so we know when peak will come and when to try and stay out of work and keep dc off school

It makes me so sad that routine monitoring of chronic illness will have to be sidelined.

Vulnerable groups who depend on those appointments to stay in the best shape possible are going to be more endangered if their conditions aren't being managed well.

I've mentioned it before but for example only about 30% of diabetics in the UK currently hit their targets - and that is with normal service in their gps and hospital clinics. The more blood sugar fluctuates, the more susceptible to covid 19 complications. As well as all the bloody diabetic complications apart from the virus.

Honestly fuck this virus Sad

Miss

at least hand shaking was banned at westminster.

apparently someone was lip reading willam - strange all hand shaking has been banned we will need lots of gel after today.

Postponing the Olympics would be sensible

It seems crazy to go ahead.

Particularly if there is a theory that very intense athletic training might actually dent the immune system in otherwise very healthy young people and so put them at risk - like with the Italian marathon runner.

Moo7878 · 10/03/2020 23:17

@ofwarren - glad I'm not the only one who thought that! Thought it was because I've had wine.

RedToothBrush · 10/03/2020 23:18

I must confess to reading this, double asking and then reading again before realising I'd miss read it the first time!!!

I was wondering who the presidential penis cleaner was!!!!
