Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

She MUST of passed it on to people if she has had a full a diary as she has said.
This is going to be interesting.
Parliament are telling us to just wash hands and not close schools so if they take measures such as closing parliament and deep cleaning, people may feel it's a bit hypocritical.

HeIenaDove · 10/03/2020 22:53

Just when our surgery has decided that repeat scripts cant be sent to the requested pharmacy anymore Patients have to pick them up.

seasmize · 10/03/2020 22:53

I see we’ve exported a case to Jamaica now too.

TokyoSushi · 10/03/2020 22:53

Nadine Dorries, honestly, you couldn't make it up!

That'll be great when they're all packed like Sardines in the Commons for the budget tomorrow 🙄

BertiesLanding · 10/03/2020 22:54

@RedToothBrush - I understand your rage. I was pointing out that that's not going to change people or their complacency, unfortunately. The only thing any of us can do is to act to the best of our abilities.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 10/03/2020 22:54

Meant to add to me that signals we all have to take extra responsability for our health and for those of us around us.
Not sure in my mind what that means in practice more widely, though I could think of a couple of examples for my family.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/03/2020 22:55

"Has Nadine Dorries been abroad?
Did she have to go through 111 to get approved for coronavirus testing?"

Yes, I wonder if there are different rules for the rulers

btw, have any private practices bought test kits, so that the well-heeled can get tested without delay ?
Could firms get their key personnel tested privately ?

Sunshinesky1981 · 10/03/2020 22:55

Perhaps in a few months we will end up with a scoop news article from the Sun showing massive amounts of MPs expenses for Andrex and pot noodles Grin

AbsentmindedWoman · 10/03/2020 22:55

Anyone got a good article about the various treatments that are being tried?

Wehttam · 10/03/2020 22:56

Life as we knew it before this started will change drastically in my opinion yes, there is no sugar coating it.

When grandparents are too afraid to see their grandchildren for fear they may be carrying a potentially lethal virus, you have a fairly big problem.

When being within 1 metre of a stranger could risk you being infected with a highly contagious disease then yes things have changed.

When tapping in your PIN number to pay for your food shop risks picking up COVID19 then yes things will have changed.

Our psyche will be affected by this there is no denying it. I’m sure others will agree with me here? This isn’t scaremongering it’s fact.

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 22:56

@Unileaver123

Tiny tiny numbers in the UK, there is not a pandemic.

There are none so blind...

I've spoken to a few northern italian teenagers on a fandom thing I'm on today and they are absolutely traumatised.

HeIenaDove · 10/03/2020 22:59

So Nadine spent time with Boris who not ONLY isnt self isolating

hes been up North visiting the flood victims!

Lycidas · 10/03/2020 22:59

@Whettam

Sorry but you’re indulging in speculation. How do you people don’t feel comfortable entering their PINs in two years time???

LarkDescending · 10/03/2020 22:59

Steven Swinford
(@Steven_Swinford)
Nadine Dorries first felt ill last Friday as she was signing a statutory instrument which made coronavirus a 'notifiable' disease

The full symptoms did not kick in until Saturday as she held a constituency surgery in Mid Bedfordshire.

"I think our unwillingness to want to talk about death matter of factly as a society is part of the problem here"

I agree I have been forced into thinking about death due to several close sudden losses and one longer non tragic death of elderly parent. I sat by their side for 3 weeks watching the sad process of loosing them but, nothing more could be done ( heart ).

I found making an 80 year old wait to slowly die for 3 weeks when they were ready to go 3 weeks prior , with great discomfort but not massive awfulness..." despicable" as a society, There was no reason on this earth why 3 long weeks had to be played out. Its disgusting we treat animals better than our elderly However, thats for another thread.

And in spite of my relatives time being very clearly up, terminal I would never ever wish this COVID awfulness on them!!

RE the child with asthma or respiratory illness.

Unfortunately this is a classic time of year for dc to be struck down with breathing issues Its something I found myself thrust into a few years ago.

I agree with Red on the knock on effects of staff shortage, ambulance strain and lack of equipment.

I want to close schools now.

I don't agree on the constant political raging on this thread.
I had a child in the NHS in 2007 TEN YEARS AFTER Blair came to power and it was possibly the most scary experience of my life. Utter carnage was all around me re women giving birth and their horror stories at that time.

I don't want to be triggered and divert this thread but I hope posters can bite tongues and not drag this into a political battle.

PointlessAddict · 10/03/2020 23:00

But they want people to get it! It's the plan!
They will close schools to slow it down a bit, not stop it....

Exactly. They can’t stop it as there’s no immunity and no vaccine. All they can do is try and slow down transmission and delay the peak.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/03/2020 23:00

'routine monitoring of long-term health conditions might have to stop to enable GPs to "focus on the sickest patients".'

Which longterm conditions do they normally monitor ?
BP, heart, liver, MH, T2 ....

Obviously such monitoring is important enough for it to have been done up to now

Another stage we need to avoid

Facingtheunkown · 10/03/2020 23:02

I think eventually we will get a handle on this and life will go back to normal it always does.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 23:02

Screamer- 1003 Italians have been labelled totally cured. Out of approx 9000-10000 and when less than 2 weeks ago we had a couple of hundred cases all in the same hotspot.
I don't see that as a poor showing for the number of people cured.

MurrayTheMonk · 10/03/2020 23:03

Well in some ways I hope we do change societally.
I took a brief moment of enjoyment this evening when a man in Asda sneezed without even attempting to cover his mouth. Four random people around him including me groaned or tutted at him and he looked suitably ashamed. The Grimmer has probably been doing that for years without being remonstrated with!

Wehttam · 10/03/2020 23:04

Lycidas well I know this will still be around in two years time whether there is a vaccine or not, and I know for a fact that it will always be an issue with surfaces being touched constantly, it is widely reported it stays on surfaces for anything between a few hours to a few days depending where you read.

Tell me, will you be giving up your little tube of sanitizer?

BigChocFrenzy · 10/03/2020 23:05

I must say that I'm using mostly cash ( usual in Germany) with an occasional PIN
and I'm not bothered by it

I wash my hands thoroughly whenever I come in
and I'm working on not touching my face when out .... um, that's not going well

nellodee · 10/03/2020 23:05

Tiny numbers....

Linear growth, +100 each cycle.

1, 101, 201, 301, 401, 501, 601, 701, 801, 901, 1001, 1101, 1201, 1301, 1401

Exponential growth, x2 each cycle.

1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384

Exponential growth may not look like much in the earlier stages, but once it takes off, it flies.
