Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Usernamehistory,

Yes they do. The nhs is a great employer in many ways and I could have taken a different role. But I was very determined to stay in the area/role I was in. So I didn't take advantage of all the opportunities for change. I really loved my specialty.

To be honest though, I know I just wasn't tough enough to handle the circumstances of being a nurse in an acute hospital. I am a fairly emotionally vulnerable person though, so it's not surprising! Im just a bit worried about how the gov think the nhs will be okay....even my old friends who are still nursing....it's tough for them!!! How can they cope with more pressure?!!

And me, my heart would want to go back but it's mentally impossible! I'm sure the cmht who I'm a patient of wouldn't condone it.

I am however going to volunteer to do whatever I can wether it's giving out sandwiches or cleaning toilets!!

I just think in all the worry, fear, plans, prepping ..... please please think of the welfare of the nhs nurses.

glad i found this thread where there are people who are crazy enough to be discussing this topic instead of sleeping ( like me !)

i'm 30 weeks pregnant and have asthma so i sit a death sentence 😞

confusedandtired99 · 10/03/2020 02:19

I’m still awake :(

Newjez · 10/03/2020 02:20

I plan to be isolated to prevent infection rather than prevent me giving it to anyone. I am mid fifties with pre existing. Sounds like a death sentence. But I am very fit and able. I intend to garden, go for walks on the downs and go mountain biking. I should be able to avoid direct contact with anyone. I think keeping myself as fit as possible will increase my chances of survival, and I doubt I will pick anything on the downs on my mountain bike.

Defenbaker · 10/03/2020 02:25

Has anybody got any theory as to why Turkey has apparently remained free of the virus, so far? I wonder if they've just been fortunate, or are keeping cases quiet, to protect the tourist industry over there.

My DH is due to go there this summer, on a golf holiday with "the lads", many of whom are pensioners, so in the high risk group. He's in two minds whether to go or not. I think the decision may well be taken out of his hands anyway as the pandemic spreads.

Defenbaker · 10/03/2020 02:32

@Newjez - I'm a similar age to you, and also enjoy gardening and walking. I think these things have real benefits, mentally and physically, and I don't see any issues with going out for walks, as long as you keep your distance from others who might be doing the same thing. I think you'd be more likely to catch the virus in a gym, than out in the fresh air where you are able to keep a healthy distance from people.

LarkDescending · 10/03/2020 02:34

@Defenbaker The US case just announced in Maryland (86yo woman) is said to be linked to recent travel to Turkey.

I just want everyone to do what they can do to help us all cope with this virus.

The virus isn't going away!

Lockdown for a month would do NOTHING to stop the virus. It will still come back while it's circulating in the world!....which it will continue to do until there is a vaccine.

When there is a vaccine it should be given to health care workers and people in developing countries before we get it!

As much as I have slated our government for not investing in the NHS, I actually TRUST them to manage this situation!!!!

Please people....trust the government. You may not like bojo etc etc...

It's a time where we all need to appreciate that we live in one of the most advanced countries in the world. Be glAd you live here not a developing country /3rd world/war torn country. Some people are so caught up in war, trying to flee, abuse....that they haven't even heard of covid....and them people are greatly more at risk of death than we are!

Please people, trust our government. Look at the numbers. Look at every other eu country compared to us. Trust our intense contract tracing is working. Trust our systems are highly sophisticated. Maybe Italy and Spain don't fave such sophisticated systems......look at Germany! Wow! They were on track with Italy....no more!

Don't panic. Trust the government. Follow their rules.

But yeah, investment in the nhs is needed

facevalue · 10/03/2020 02:47

@naughtycat u do realise " the government" isn't thinking of you when they make decisions!

it's sweet that u believe in the government .. i really wish i was religious then i'd just chill and believe "god" will save me and things like " what will be will be ".

i envy you xxx keep it up

facevalue · 10/03/2020 02:50

@Defenbaker what's your point? many countries are not listed which means nothing !

i'm not hearing anything about cyprus! finland! malta! sudan! etc it really doesn't mean a thing

Bovneydazzlers · 10/03/2020 03:59

I don’t understand why the government isn’t enforcing self isolation for people who have minor symptoms now rather than in 10 days time?!

For me this is low economic impact; but huge impact against the virus - there isn’t any full evidence of asymptomatic spread and agreed that the vast amount of spread is when there is symptoms - why not instruct this from now?!

naughtycat · 10/03/2020 04:04

Facevalue

Your probably right.

I literally believe what everyone says all the time. I think that's why I ended up having a mental breakdown in the end!

Everyone says "oh it's so sweet " about my naivelty!!

I really think we have to trust the government on this one though.

Look at the rates per million of population....we are the lowest in Europe!!

@bovneydazzlers it all comes down to money - who is willing to pay / compensate for whom? how much is the death of an over 60 person is actually saving the government ! if mostly older and with other health conditions - isn't their realty actually desirable for this government !

if the deaths were of 5 kids - so u think there would be such chilled attitude ????

sadly money speaks 😞

facevalue · 10/03/2020 04:09

@naughtycat we do need ppl like you - the hopefuls lift the spirit -but please saying trust the government ! i think u have a better argument saying " god will save us" ...

government = rich arseholes that have access to private superior healthcare so they arnt bothered if u catch the virus

naughtycat · 10/03/2020 04:09

Anyone worried about Spain?

Rocketmam · 10/03/2020 04:10

I really think we have to trust the government on this one though.

Look at the rates per million of population....we are the lowest in Europe!!

That would only mean something if we were testing on the same scale as them. People are still being turned away if they have no immediate travel history or contact with an already confirmed case.

Given that we already have patients who have caught covid 19 within the community these testing rules are outdated and insufficient.

We are also letting planes full of people from Milan land and go about their buisness unchecked!

Take whatever our current case numbers are and probably time that by 3. That's being generous.

Nononoandno · 10/03/2020 04:14

My daughter and 100 guests from the uk are due to travel to Bulgaria later this week 🙈I’m worried about her going 🙈🙈

Nononoandno · 10/03/2020 04:15

Sorry I forgot to mention it’s a wedding

naughtycat · 10/03/2020 04:20

They are doing testing in 100 GP surgeries around the uk, on patients with respiratory symptoms......so that they can work out if much community trans motion is happening....and so they can monitor the level of community transmission.

They are continuously doing contract tracing on diagnosed cases. They know what they are doing!!!

With the general GP tracing and the contact tracing they've a really good idea of what's happening in our country.

Most other countries in Europe are shooting up faster than us. If you think it's all down to statistics or the number of tests done, then can someone please explain the

DiFFERENCE between SPAIN And GERMANY?????

naughtycat · 10/03/2020 04:24

Sorry, I will shut up now and go back to lurking....which I've been doing for 2 weeks! Just wanted to make my point! I promise to be quiet now!!

Rocketmam · 10/03/2020 04:30

naughtycat a second ago you just threatened to kill yourself because people were arguing with you. Hope you get any help you need but forgive me for not considering you a voice of reason.

Seeing as there ARE now community transmission cases that have been picked up, and we have placed no restriction, controls or even checks on any travel from places like Milan then no, I do not think we are testing nearly enough. What was it yesterday, 1000 something? How does that compare to other countries?

If Gp's were being allowed to test anyone they felt needed to be then I would have more 'faith' that our numbers are accurate.

Rocketmam · 10/03/2020 04:36

Sorry, I will shut up now and go back to lurking....which I've been doing for 2 weeks! Just wanted to make my point! I promise to be quiet now!!

I'm not your mother, post or don't post as much as you like.

I have autism so if your suicide post was a weird attempt at emotional blackmail, or a joke, I couldn't tell. But I have reported it for you and hope you recieve support.

naughtycat · 10/03/2020 04:44

Sorry I have EUPD and ASD. I get extremely overwhelmed. I didn't mean to hurt anyone. It just came out. I'm sorry
