Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Just trying to understand why lots of other European countries seem now to be taking similar and sensible measures and we just aren't...

We'll we're having meeting with experts from all 27 states attending. The UK government have apparently forbidden UK medics from attending because they think it'll weaken the UK brexit position. Dickheads.

Delatron · 10/03/2020 16:15

The government is arguing that there is no scientific evidence that banning large gatherings, school closures or banning flights work. I wonder why the scientific evidence varies from country to country?

I think they could do more but that is their official line.

fezzesarecool · 10/03/2020 16:15

TBF the government have already said that The Three Wise Men protcal will come into play if it has to

MurrayTheMonk · 10/03/2020 16:16

And yes to concern re lack of testing. No call back from GP or 111 re Dd and her sore throat and now temperature. She is at home.
I think it's tonsils but I'm not a doctor and I'm surprised they haven't responded at all.
I assume as they are overwhelmed. My county has the most cases just about I think... lots of people must be ringing with similar. But that does lead me to belief that we aren't able to test nearly enough people.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 16:16

Ok, but this is ICU beds right? Are asthmatics being treated for breathing difficulties on usual ward beds?

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 16:16

Would this be our old friend Macchini again?

IrisAtwood · 10/03/2020 16:17

I’m convinced that if the ‘senior ITU consultant’ knew that their partner was scaremongering on social media they would be appalled.
Tunbridge wells should be ashamed of themselves - claiming authority by relationship and stirring up fear.

Michelleoftheresistance · 10/03/2020 16:17

This is why the WHO were arguing so passionately yesterday for containment to mean very serious, very effective and proactive containment, because of the necessity to protect the vulnerable groups and because every person mattered. There was specific mention that a government attitude of 'let the wave pass over us' was wrong and unacceptable.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 16:17

Makes you wonder how he has the time to treat people what with all the time he spends writing to colleagues, giving interviews to the UK press and tweeting.

emsy86 · 10/03/2020 16:18

Company just sent out an email saying anyone who has to self isolate etc will not be classed as sick and will receive full pay. slight relief to hear this, just hope people dont take advantage of it!

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 16:19

I'm sorry, could someone tell me if asthmatics with coronavirus are not being treated with oxygen and ventolin in Italian hospitals.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 10/03/2020 16:19

I don’t know for sure but in Italy but some hospitals cannot take any emergencies at all. CV or not. Basically there is a real risk of dying from a non cv emergency as there are no doctors or facilities to treat these conditions.

IrisAtwood · 10/03/2020 16:19

There is no evidence of any such decision being taken as policy.

Cases are decided on a case by case basis.

And I have worked in ITU - left some time ago, but I keep up to date.

Thetigeronthewobbelboard · 10/03/2020 16:21

I have just had to get my first inhaler since 2002! I am struggling to breathe a bit more at the moment due to an iron deficiency related to pregnancy. If I would be written off as not worth saving because of this then it’s very worrying!

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 16:22

Yours, you need to stfu with your lies and scaremongering now.
Of course people are being treated.
Btw, Dr Macchini is a proctologist.

Pansyt77 · 10/03/2020 16:22

I believe that doctor's are aware that they will have to choose who to treat. I don't think this is a wildly outrageous thing to say. If you have higher risk I would isolate now in all honesty,

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 16:23

Some hospitals aren't taking emergencies because they aren't emergency hospitals. Like in the UK.

Pansyt77 · 10/03/2020 16:23

Thetiger - in my experience pregnant women are always really well treated by the NHS

Sunshinesky1981 · 10/03/2020 16:23

Can people not see that Saying that if the time comes where the NHS is overwhelmed and having to make choices on how to prioritise ICU beds as that's how triage works is completely different to saying

Asthma is a comorbidity for CV. Article says if you have a comorbidity you won't be treated for CV. You won't even see a doctor.
This must not be underestimated. People have to understand that if we get anything close to Italy's state, there will be no treatment for those with co-morbidities - this includes asthma. This includes kids.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 16:24

The Italian says "may have to consider the eventual possibility of.."
Not "will"

AnneKipanki · 10/03/2020 16:24

Has anyone STARTED NEW THREAD ?

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 16:25

I'm very aware of the gulf between the two sunshine.

Tempuserregularposter · 10/03/2020 16:25

@FourTeaFallOut it's not that black and white, decisions will be made on a case by case basis, but if there is one ventilator and 5 patients they will choose the most likely to recover, so age and health and life style factors will go against people. This is not scare mongering, it's been listed for years in emergency planning. It's the same for any major disaster or incident.
