Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

@Freezingold fantastic work, well done you and your family!

Delatron · 10/03/2020 14:07

I’m losing all faith in the figures being accurate if they are going to continue to only test people who have been abroad recently. People are dying from U.K. acquired Coronavirus. There is community spread we need to find where the clusters are and take action in these areas.

I know people have responded saying it doesn’t matter if the figures are accurate. Well, I disagree if we are talking in large figures going undetected. People will only start to take this seriously if we have a true idea of the community spread.

*"UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK:

Today's figures will be published later this afternoon.

We are working hard to provide you with the latest information and will tweet this out as soon as possible."

Fuck. I am worried.

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 14:07

@FourTeaFallOut

But I don't think people will. How many people have you heard say they will fill up the car because of coronavirus? I haven't seen it, it makes no sense.

I was responding directly to a poster above who said just that. Because I think it is a stupid thing for her to do. Because it is selfish and unnecessary. And it is people behaving in that way which causes shortages. Which was my point.

Not that I think there is realistically going to be a fuel shortage.

wheresmymojo · 10/03/2020 14:07

Without wanting to appear unsympathetic - did she not notice what was going on around her and what other airlines were doing?

Well...from many posts on here and FB people just expect to do whatever they want during a global pandemic while saying 'it's just the flu' and that there will be 'someone' who will sort everything out for them when it turns out to be an irresponsible decision.

In some ways it might prove to be a useful life lesson for many people about what adulting actually involves...

FurForksSake · 10/03/2020 14:09

6th person and another community acquired one at that has died. Very sad.

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 14:09

Was Tuesday the day it was late last week, too???

FollowingNow · 10/03/2020 14:09

Does anyone think an Italy style lockdown is actually likely to happen hear? Everyone I speak to thinks it won't.

Kuponut · 10/03/2020 14:09

Meanwhile my uni continue to let the student who was in northern Italy all last week, prance around lectures going on about how quiet it all was - and have updated statements on their website that no one on campus they're aware of has recently visited the country. (I referred the information upwards when I found out about it)

Kuponut · 10/03/2020 14:10

I filled up the car just as a "fucking hell petrol's gone down in price" usual measure to be honest (I was low anyway)

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:10

Another morbid Q but it's been buzzing around my mind... Will those who have had the virus and died as result/consequence of it be allowed to be buried or will they have to be cremated?

KenAdams · 10/03/2020 14:11

@cjt110 the last time it was delayed it wasn't because the figures were horrendous so don't worry.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/03/2020 14:11

I am wondering about the impact of the weekend on testing and diagnosis and then results on Monday and then Tuesday?

Homkaismycat · 10/03/2020 14:11

I feel so anxious about all this. I’m in a risk group and I’m so scared.
And pissed off.
Hubster thinks it’s all joke, swings here in his work uniform with god knows what germs are on, saying that people cough and sneeze nonstop at work.
He pissing me off, he stays in his work clothes the whole fucking evening!
Hardly uses hand wash, thinking it’s all joke.
I spent money to buy wipes, hand gels, wiping handles here, but he thinks it’s ok, just a flu..
FFS!!!
Really scared and pissed off.
If I get it - that’s it. My lungs are in bad state due to the lung chronic condition I have..

New poster here. My child’s school seem to think it’s a matter of when not if and my husband has been asked to work from home for the foreseeable future (along with the rest of his office)

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:12

@KenAdams Hi Ken. Yes, i recall now. That's a bit more reassuring.

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 14:12

Just checked - it wasn't updated til 3:46 last Tuesday.

Maybe Tuesday 2pm is team meeting time? Or something. I doubt it is cause for concern.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 14:12

Sorry, I meant how many people - other than that poster. You'll always have a few people who will do stuff like that but I don't think it would hit most people's radar, especially if they are willing the prices to drop. Grin

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 10/03/2020 14:12

Totally agree. I think anyone travelling now should accept full liability for their decision.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 10/03/2020 14:13

I've just been speaking (virtually) to a friend who is very intelligent. Going on as normal - lots of big parties. I told her what I thought about that. The thing is, what I'm saying is only do it now instead of 10 days (which is what gov't is essentially saying) - people are NOT getting the sense of urgency from the government they need to, they are not cancelling non-essential things like parties. The have no clue.....

There should somehow be better media coverage of what the gov't is saying - all employers should be passing on things like within 10 days self isolation if any symptoms. It's insane that people can possibly conceive this isn't going to affect us here - and people don't seem to understand that if they continue going out to the pub every night / to parties etc then it's going to be much, much worse. People are spreading and catching this now in the community doing stuff that isn't important at all. It's infuriating.

Tempuserregularposter · 10/03/2020 14:14

I do wonder if it's a massive jump the numbers will be released after schools have closed. It would be a Safeguarding headache to have parents collecting throughout the day, much easier to get them all home then close schools.

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:14

The number of Scots diagnosed with coronavirus has increased to 27, the Scottish Government confirmed.

The total number of positive tests for the disease, known as Covid-19, has risen by four from Monday. So far there have been 2,234 tests for the virus carried out in Scotland, of which 2,207 were negative.

ShanghaiDiva · 10/03/2020 14:14

@FollowingNow
If cases rise rapidly I don’t see what else can be done. Lockdown and social distancing do work we can see that from China. However, the economic impact is enormous. The media focus is not really on China at the moment, but they are entering a second phase: relax measures without a spike in the number of cases.
